Is it wise to use the "of devotion" mod on a high health weapon set?
I was reading through the beginners guide, and it talked about putting a +60 hp mod on a high health set. Ok, cool, whatever, but then later, I was flipping through the list of weapons mods when I came across "of devotion." If "of devotion" is used, then a potential 75 health gain is possible. The only drawback is that you have to be enchanted, which most eles are, with attunements and all. Is there something I'm missing? It's viable on both staves (yuck) and caster spear + shield/focus (yah!), so I don't see why not.

I dont see the use of high hp set unless its for PvP.
For pvp (for an ele) an shield with +armor vs x dmg AND an devotion mod is probably the best option.

A high health set, I guess we're talking about PvP here. You'd want 30hp on spear and 30hp on shield.

In PvE that's a good idea, in PvP, it's not, because you're not guaranteed to have your enchantments on. If you're going to get spiked, chances are your enchantments have been stripped, which means you will go KABOOOOOM!!!

In PvP, you don't want to have your defensive set lose its HP bonus due to rend/shatter/etc. It's really more relevant to higher level PvP, where your enchantments will tend to be stripped when you get spiked. In RA you can probably get away with it as long as you have a low-recharge enchantment (it's only 15 health more though for a risk of losing 45 HP when you need it most).

devotion isn't worth the risk. either a straight +30hp or +5 armor mod is usually the way to go. it's likely in pvp your enchants can and will get stripped. usually though, most people choose a +20% enchanting staff to cast enchantments and then switch after to a 40/40 set(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/40/40)

Thanks for all the replies. For the record, I'm mainly a pve man, and seeing as most of your replies about pvp, should I even bother with anything other than 40/40, pull bow, and an enchanting set?

Those will be more than enough for most content. You can always collect the more niche equipment and practice using it though. It will help when you get to the harder stuff but isn't necessary.
