Default Why Would You Choose THIS Build Over A Standard Affective Monk Healer Build?

I was just wondering what makes the following build superior to a standard affective monk healer build? Many people say that using a hero slot on a monk is a waste of a slot but then they go & use the following build which is basically a healing build isn't it? Wouldn't it just be better to go ahead & use a monk instead to provide healing for the team or is this better? If it is better then WHY?

Thanks.

Here's the build which uses Necromancer/Ritualist as the profession:

[skill]weapon of remedy[/skill][skill]splinter weapon[/skill][skill]mend body and soul[/skill][skill]spirit light[/skill][skill]protective was kaolai[/skill][skill]life[/skill][skill]signet of lost souls[/skill][skill]death pact signet[/skill]

Soul Reaping - 9
Restoration Magic - 12
Channeling Magic - 9

Heros are idiots and spam their super-powerful heals at the slightest sign of injury. Huge, expensive, powerful heals are the last thing you want to give a hero then. Prots while possibly still worth bringing, are dangerous as they apply them indiscriminately.

I've been playing around with healer's covenant builds, and I find them fairly effective, since they have infinite energy and just spam constant "red bar go up" like the N/Rts, well suited to the hero AI.

Energy management.
Splinter weapon.

Monk heroes suck at E-management, They'll use Heal Other for 10 damage >_>.

OK nice one, thanks for clearing that part of it up for me guys.

Although, if you have basically infinite energy due to SR, why is SOLS needed? Was it just put there as there was nothing else that could really be used?

Also, my team never has a melee in it as it's full of casters with my MM's minions being the only melee, so is splinter weapon still affective? I mean is SW is cast on a caster who has either a wand or staff, they shouldn't be wanding anyway, they should be casting or do heroes tend to wand a lot making SW actually effective?

Thanks again.

Energy Management and Splinter Weapon (SW is ment to be at 10 for the breakpoint by the way).
Plus pure healer on a Ritualist > pure healer on Monk, unless you're running WoH or HB.
I prefer running SW and AR on my SS hero, and running something such as Weapon of Shadow, or Weapon of Warding for the weaponslot.

P.S -- I also don't use SoLS, I use Recovery.

Short Answer: Yes, heroes/henchies wand a lot.

Long Answer: From what I've seen, it looks like heroes have a permanent auto-attack setting on guard/attack. Even when they stop casting for a second, they still wand once or twice.

Plus, I think I've seen my hero use splinter weapon on minions every once in a while (or maybe that was a caster wanding on the monster in the middle of the minion mob >_>).

That's good news, thanks

Just wondering, do you guys think SOLS is necessary with 9 Soul Reaping + a Miniom Bomber. I mean things will be dying all over the place so he should have enough energy.

It helps to manage energy and a minor self heal if things are dieing but not quite dead yet.

I'm just wondering whether he will have major energy problems without it though as with a minion bomber a lot of things will be dying, even if it's just the minions so he should be getting energy from various sources.

Surely there could be a better use for that skill slot instead of SOLS, but I'm no expert & haven't actually tried this build out yet, so I'm not sure.

Also, if the N/RT is better than a monk for healing because he has more energy management, then wouldn't it just be better to go N/MO & fill the Necro's bar with monk skills? That way he'd basically be a monk but with infinite energy. I'm just wondering why the person who created the build picked Rit.

Monk heals are balanced to have some DF boosting behind them, so not really actually. Rit heal with Spirit Light = 180 heal, 5 en, iirc. MBaS 121 heal, 5. Both slightly conditional, but super heals compared to the Heal Other monk coutnerpart for 10 en, 130 heal.

Also, I was wondering, why not just give this build to a Rit? Would he not have enough energy management to be successful with it? I mean, if you gave it to a Rit, he could have something like 16 Restoration & 12 Channeling whereas a N/RT couldn't. Wouldn't this be better overall?

Because Soul Reaping in PvE -- along with the Minion Bomber, makes energy management not even close to a problem.

Plus heroes don't value energy management -- even with GoLE on their bar they fail at energy.

Thanks for letting me know. I don't understand why Sabway has a N/RT healer though, considering so many people think it's a waste to use one of your hero slots on a healer/protector or anything other than a damage dealer. I was told not to waste one of my hero slots on a monk as it'd be better to fill it with a damage dealer & leave the healing to the henchies, so how come they all agree with Sabway which actually uses a hero slot for a healer (the N/RT)?

because the n/rit healer is going to do a significantly better job then a henchmen, more then what a hero monk would do

Purely because of E-Management?
