I made this thread, as it is done every year, by someone, this is to prevent Guilds getting mad at each other when it comes to guilds hosting feast for the community. Last year was ruff, with guilds trying to claim same districts. So Being Early as [bots] will be reserving those districts. You will see soon more will reserve thier Districts for their Guilds.

Thank You Kindly

This move makes a lot of sense. I commend [bots] for taking such a generous initiative so early.

Guilds sponsor districts during the canthan new year, making sure all of the dishes are made for the celestial one.

Reserving is a great idea. Last year I asked if this district was sponsered - the response was like when the 1238th person asks "when will Mad King Be here?" Nice to know I can pick one and play nine rings and not have to ask.

When the first Canthan New Year rolled around, sponsored districts was a relatively new concept and few guilds did this, especially when the ingredients were not originally known.

With the subsequent years, sponsoring Districts has practically become a mainstay for many guilds, either sponsoring out of generosity or wishing to interest new members by making their names more known.

If I remember correctly, my Alliance sponsored 4 districts each round (2 in American and 2 in Europe), last Canthan New Year. So, it can easily be said that there will be at least a dozen or more sponsored Districts in both American and European districts (24+ total sponsored Districts) this year, and likely a lot more.

The only problem with it is that there are tons of guilds/people out there that don't visit GW Guru, so won't be aware that anyone here has "reserved" a district. Last year, even though most districts had Guilds/Alliances sponsoring them, there were plenty of districts available for everyone, especially towards the end of the day. I don't think there was much of a problem with guilds fighting over districts, as most times, someone would hop in, ask if the town was sponsored, and not make a fuss if someone beat them to it. My guild ran into a small problem when someone came into the town we were hosting (and had been announcing it in chat) and just started spamming that they were hosting it before asking if a host was needed. D'oh! No biggie, we just let 'em know we had it covered. The guy PM'd an apology, so I invited them to stay and share the hosting duties. And there was much rejoicing!

Some tips for guilds looking for a district to sponsor:
1. Arrive in Shing Jea 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the event.
2. Have guildies help canvass districts to speed up the search!
3. ASK if the district you've landed in has a host already. (be sure to ask a couple of times just to be sure)
4. Don't get pissy because the district you were hoping for is already taken.
5. If a district is already sponsored, wish the hosts & everyone there a fun time and move on to the next potential district.
6. Do not try to hi-jack a hosted district, regardless of how many memebers of a hosting guild/alliance are there - it make you look like a complete d-bag, and spoils the fun for others (including bystanders).
7. Many larger guilds/alliances will be hosting a particular district (or several districts) through-out the course of the event, keep this in mind if you're guild/alliance will be hosting a couple of times.
8. When your guild/alliance has found a district that needs a host, immediately inform your guildies of your location and then make an announcement that you're going to be hosting the district.
9. Repeat the hosting message at regular intervals (do not spam!) so newcomers will know who you are.

You guys don't seem to get it, they aren't reserving the district for their own personal use, they are reserving districts so that they can sponsor them. This is so we can have a list come CNY that has the districts that are guaranteed to complete the feast, not to keep people out.

I can't help but wonder if this should have been posted in the Community Events section so that the topic catered to those that would actually use and understand the information.

Exactly. We had this same post for at least the last couple of years on this forum and I know there were on others as well.

I was with bots back a couple of years ago when we did it and last year, with my alliance The Aerie, we sponsored a couple of districts and had great fun doing it. Chatting it up with peeps, having trivia contests, best advertisement line contests...everyone that was in our districts all had a blast. And, of course, the presents we all got from the completed dishes wasn't bad either.

BTW Ct...I'll edit this later when we decide (The Aerie Alliance featuring [Hawk], [ESP], [DEAD], [TFE], [LoKi], [oDp], [HERO]...sorry, shameless plug) which districts we'll be sponsoring. Looking forward to another great CNY.

Really, it strikes me as strange. Even if you were giving ArenaNet money for their work creating Canthan New Year, this year is just an automated repeat, it's not like they really did anything for this particular instance, so I sort of wonder how you can sponsor that.

Maybe I'm just not getting something here, but sponsorship is paying for part (or all) of the costs of an event, service, item, media, etc; and having your identity included in some manner in that item. But there are no costs for ArenaNet to do the Canthan New Year, nor are you likely sending them money, and your guild advertising is not being endorsed, facilitated, or supported by ArenaNet.

When the celestial on is comming to town the chefs msut prepare some dishes and they are asking for ingredients, which are colectable trophies from mosters. If all the dishes are compelete, every one in that distrig get the max reward.

Sponsoring is making sure that every chef will get what he needs so the dishes are complete.

Is not that no one will be allowed in that district, but the members of that alliance. Yo can still participate with your ingredients.

Anyway, my alliance is not that big, but I will contribute alone with my stuff(packrat FTW). Probably I'll be with the boaties and the ponies.
