Default Since My Return to GW

Since my return to GuildWars I have hit lvl 20 on two characters, one's ascended the other is getting ready to ascend, then I have another hitting lvl18 in the next day or so, then one at lvl15 who is a little lazy yet.
I have joined a guild thats as goofy and fun to be with, I have done a number of Zaishen Challenge Battles, did a Costume Brawl, and just been doing quests and co-op missions and just enjoying it all.

I have learned alot about my professions even here on GWGuru and made my mind up on a couple of different skill sets to use with my Rangers and Necromancer and Elementalist. All of this after being away for almost five years and come back and after a shaky start get back into the swing of things and go like all get out.

I don't think that this is a sign of a dead game as previously mentioned in the past and hopefully it will continue for a long time yet to be. So hows it been for you when you came back???

I am playing it for the first time, and after getting out of Pre-Searing, Prophecies has really grabbed me. I am having a blast exploring the world and, honestly, just grinding away on Char.

I know this doesn't really count as a "returning player" testimony, but I am definitely going to be playing for a while.

GW1 didn't die because of GW2 after all. I've been playing Costume Brawl and there are people going for Gamer titles. Not a whole lot of people but there are people there playing. Jade Quarry has been going. I don't know about PvE though. But Kamadan is still full as always if you ever feel isolated or lonely in PvE.

I agree with Linksys.

About me, since my returns on GW1, I took back one of my character with 16 maxed titles and I have now 22 maxed titles. I just can't stop doing titles and not even GW2 will stop me

there are still many of us playing gw, granted many of us dont spend much time in outposts or towns, but we are still playing!
(titles...working on chests and id'ing...think I will be around for quite some time!)

After all the gloomy comments about the "Guild Wars 2 exodus," seeing this thread really cheered me up. It's great to hear about the fun you guys are having right now.

I totally agree original Guild Wars is far from dead. Our community may be smaller, but many of us are still having a blast, and this just means we have an opportunity to become more close-knit, cooperative and supportive of each other, IMO.

As for me, I'm working on my elite skill capping and other titles. I also just started 2 new characters and plan to replay the campaigns. The storyline has always been a big part of the game for me, so redoing missions and side quests is like re-reading a great book or watching my favorite movie again.

AWWWW, well I'm glad I cheered you up and yes its true. After reading and seeing in chat about how the other place is, I can assure you we are much better off, even with the low numbers. Again I have been having a grand time with GW, and tonight even after talking with a guildmate of mine we did a run from Droknars Forge to the Granite Citadel, he told me about his experiences back then after GW went live, and I tell ya it gave me a warm feeling knowing there are others who feel the way we do.

Costume brawl goes for one more day, today until midnight if I'm correct. If anyone wants to join, come on in. I've gained two ranks in my Gamer title from it.

I've been trying to get my characters through all the campaigns. I'm obsessive like that, and want all my characters to be able to travel anywhere :P

My monk is my hardest to do that on, having to just keep my heroes alive. But I have seen many people in Kamadan still (trading as usual) and especially right now with the Halloween events. Before though, you were hard pressed to find people in random outposts. Kinda makes it fun though cause you start seeing the same people, and becoming friends.

^White Rose, try a smiting build.

I'm also pleasantly surprised, that GW1 is still so active. Heck, there were still 20 districts in LA during Halloween! (even without the mask reward)

yeah I use a smiting build for my monks when I play with my heroes too..
(and we had 24 in LA for halloween---though some people were there because they thought that there was going to be a new hat--some people dont bother to look at the wiki).

I logged in earlier in the week and learned about the hats, so finally got to replace my lost witch's hat. (It somehow got deleted before the advent of the Festival Hat NPC.) Then I logged in for Mad King visit and actually got picked for RPS.

I have to admit that GW1 Halloween Mad King is more fun than GW2. There he only does the emotes.

And, I don't really qualify as a "returning player" as I've never really left. My play time has just become erratic.

Yeah I don't qualify as a returning player either. I also never left!

I'm really happy they're letting us get the old hats now. Halloween was great this year. My alt account was finally able to collect a couple of the cool early hats from when I only had my main account.

I do play Guild Wars 2 as well and I enjoy it a lot for its own qualities. But it will never replace Guild Wars 1. I don't understand people who left for Guild Wars 2 as if it makes our original wonderful Tyria obsolete. Huh?!? Do you stop reading your favorite book or watching your favorite movie just because the sequel comes out? Makes no sense to me. I don't see why we have to love one at the expense of the other. It is all Tyria to me.

I have just returned to GW from over a year long break. I was actually very suprised at how small the number of players are. Just started back yesterday getting the hang of things, and of course opening all of the 6 and 7 year bday presents lol. I have no guild, of course, and on my alt accounts everyone has left and made me guild leader. Quite sad since we used to be in a top Kurzick alliance. Guess Ill get to grinding on titles.

p.s. I don't plan on buying GW2, but I will continue to play GW as long as I have something to do!

GW is pretty damn amazing the first play through, even if you don't touch PvP (which I would suggest not to now). It's a shame that I could play through GW again despite having played easily 10k hours since early 05 and have way more fun than GW2. You know the feeling when you see junkies approaching your car to clean your windshield for $2? That's how I feel about ANet. GW was a fluke so enjoy it until it gets shut down.

And to anyone thinking about playing GW2-- it's the same as d3 (in terms of inadvertent FAILURE) only its fragmented appeal lasts a little bit longer. You will regret wasting the $60 on the game, and the hours invested into PvE and PvP (funnily enough both are actually horrible, and nothing short of a complete revamp would fix them). And I played a character to 80 and got to rank 30 in PvP, as well as champion phantom, so I gave this shitty game a chance and my opinion is based on experiencing the game first hand.

Agree, except I am r40, admittedly I haven't done all dungeons, but 4 or 5 all paths. Game is just crap. I feel bad leaving everyone behind that all planned on playing but meh. The only reason I'm even high rank is because I used upgrades from the gem store to make it faster. And the vendors hardly get any better reward wise. I HATE ANets obsession with that shitty forge.

I am coming back to GW, I have not been gone because of GW2 but just been playing new games coming out on my PS3 like borderlands and black ops 2. I will be back in full swing doing dungeons and pvping (hopefully still alive) I have really missed this game.

I have a friend who is a huge fan of the elder scrolls series and the soundtracks that come with them. So he loves jeremy soule, I let him listen to some guild wars OST and he immediately bought the game.

I haven't return to GW1 yet, but I'm gonna give my honest opinion about Gw1 and Gw2.

I never loved a game as much as I loved GW1, it is the greatest game I have ever played.
GW2 is nothing short of amazing, although it never captured me like GW1 did, I still enjoy playing it. ( For people looking for opinions on if they should get it, this is the wrong site to look, its a gw1 forum of course there is gonna be some biased reviews towards it.) Otherwise its a great game check it out, won't regret the 60$ you spend on it.

Story GW1>Gw2 by far

Gw1 story seems so much for powerful and connecting it was just plain better
Gw2 was a big fail in my opinion, it was just forgettable.

Gameplay

Both have a very unique style of gameplay, both are great. So its a tie here.

Dungeons

GW1 dungeons is simply better, I never got tired of them
GW2 dungeons, sick of it after the first run, its not hard, just a bunch of enemies with a billion health, and takes forever to take down, and no strategy involved.

Community

Both are great, (also depending on what server you are on in GW2) and very helpful

Guilds

As of now Guilds in GW2 is kinda bland, no gvg noguild halls. I feel no real connection to the guild

GW1 guilds was much better.

Overall, GW1 is better, GW2 is a lot more grindish, but a great game none the less, I again recommend it to people who haven't tried it yet.

For me, the main problem with GW2 is that it lacks soul and devs have clearly no idea which direction the game should take.

Also, no monks.

While I reckon this has to do with nostalgia, Guild Wars will always be the game I love. I haven't played GW2 for 2 months now and I don't plan to. A few times I found myself logging in, sighing after seeing the character selection screen and promptly logging out.

I waited many years and I got utterly disappointed. Such is life, I guess.
