R/N Solo Underworld (Clearing the Chamber)

RANGER UNDERWORLD SOLO

This is my first real post so be gentle with me !

Let me tell you a story – my ranger has completed most of the storyline missions/bonuses and quests except for the Titan Quests and Final Assault in SF.
I completed most of them with henchies as this suited my style of play.

I then looked for new challenges and started trapping in the Underworld – 3 ecto on my first run and I was hooked.

I have done 5 man –doddle
4 man –doddle
3 man –straight forward
2 man (when someone left) –fine if both know what they are doing.
Thus of course got me thinking – can you do it alone? For the challenge and excitement but also all the drops are yours!

I had seen the OATH SHOT builds for trapping the Underworld but couldn’t get it to work for me. Also the VIM (Victory Is Mine) build –managed a few Aatxes this way but not at all reliably.

The purpose of this post is to show that with patience and ingenuity there are other builds that work.

I can reliably clear the chamber of Aatxes and Grasping Darknesses.

The build is currently in its final development and tweaking stage. There are 7 definite skills on the bar at the moment with the 8th one questionable.
The Smite Crawlers are giving me problems so the 8th skill may need to focus on overcoming them – if we can.

It is quite slow going as it is a trapping build and rushing tends to lead to a trip back to TOA !

Is it very profitable ? Not really. Probably get an ecto every 2-3 runs but I also do it for the challenge .The ectos are a nice bonus though.

Is It as good as an invincimonk for the UW ? Of course not, it wasn’t meant to be.

BUILD DETAILS
The build is a R/N –fully ascended with 200 attribute points –distributed as follows :

EQUIPMENT
Full Druids armour for extra energy

Grim Cesta From Sir Pohl Sanbert in the Arid Sea on a ridge overlooking the City ruins –requires 5 dune burrower jaws.
Truncheon From Arliss Vaughn in Skyward Reach at the portal to the Scar – requires % iridescent griffon wings.


SKILL SET
1. Energising Wind
2. Quickening Zephyr
3. Barbed Trap
4. Dust Trap
5. Flame trap
6. VIRULENCE (Elite)
7. Whirling Defense
8. Enfeeble

The 8th skill is still being tested – throw dirt, enfeebling blood, faintheartedness, mark of pain, shadow of fear or storm chaser may all be useful alternatives.


TECHNIQUE
The technique is to set up EW and QZ then to lay as many traps as possible. Then to set up EW and QZ again and pull the mob into the traps. Cast VIRULENCE as soon as the mob is suffering from any condition and try to keep up Virulence as it also causes weakness –very helpful against the Aatxe’s damaging hits. Enfeeble is very useful as it causes weakness and as this is a condition it allows you to cast Virulence immediately after. So you can keep the Aatxes permanently weakened.

After the first set of traps had gone off the new AOE AI causes the mobs to flee and return –whilst they flee the first time –drop FT and BT. After they flee from the FT the drop DT and BT .This way they are nearly always blind ie alternate FT and DT as they flee and return. NOTE the new shorter duration of DT makes it trickier than it used to be.

The static groups of Aatxes are on a leash centred on their starting point –ie they don’t follow you too far –this is useful to use BT (cripple +bleed) followed by Virulence if used at the limit of their leash. You can play with them !

The patrolling Aatxes are not limited in such a way and can not be ‘played with’ as described above. The Ghosts can be useful to hide behind and trap as you are protected but the traps still work.

When a Dying Nightmare appears just wand it to death (2 hits from a customised wand usually does it) or it will interrupt your trap laying.

Grasping Darknesses are quite easy. Just place as many traps as possible using the standard method and lure them as a group. They should die in one hit most of the time. If there are 1 or 2 stragglers just wand or trap as necessary.

I am not aware of anyone posting a similar build as I have been scouring the forums for UW ranger builds. If it already exists somewhere I apologise.

How long does an average run take, and drops in chamber alone arent too good are they?

You are right -the drops are quite poor generally except for the occassional ecto from the Aatxes. The price of ecto is now alot lower than it was a few months ago aswell.
The run is quite fun though -pitting yourself 1 on 1 ( or occassionally 1 on 3 ) with the Aatxes.
It really isn't a money maker - just to say you can do it

I use a simlar build to solo underworld, but I use the Dying nightmares to my advantage instead of just killing them off.

With a few practice runs I was able to get it down pat. After 5 runs last night I earned a total of 6 ecto. Not bad for 5 runs.

I'm glad some of you are finding it enjoyable and profitable. It does take a bit of practice - its not as easy as Remmeh's FOW forest build unfortunately.

Got my Fissure armour last night with a PUG so i'm a happy bunny !

I have nothing todo today so i'm going to try and have ago at mastering this build... Wish me luck. :P

I really suck at this... Can't get past the first 2 aatxes. Get them nearly down then bam 2 hits i'm dead. Any special technique that i'm missing as i'm doing it exactly like in the video but alternating virulence.

Wow this is a nice post, pretty sweet you thought of the build and shared, where's your fast ranger attaxe solo build lint?? No more smack talk after the topic "died"? Seriously at least the OP shares, where you just try to undermine him.
