Moderation announcements
I notice quite a lot of people who get banned, while I never see anyone doing anything wrong, off course I dont nearly visit every single topic or even every single forum, but still I wonder what those people did wrong to get banned (and im sure im not the only one who wonders this)
In my experience it seems that most people dont read forum-rules or Codes of Conduct that carefully, no matter how many sticky threads link to it, but if files of violators are publicly displayed people will get an example of "this is not the way to behave on a forum". This should make it easyer for people to stay "within the lines". I have seen seperate Moderation Announcement forums at other large community forums and Ive learned more about forum rules from those files then by reading the actual CoC (Code of Conduct).
It should be in the format of something like this:
- Topic titles are equal to the name of the forummer who violated the CoC
- The topic should contain a 1 line summary of the violation, the duration of the ban and a link to the thread(s) in which the violation took place
- Replies to these topics will contain further moderation issues if the same person violates the CoC again in the future
- Only moderators and administrators are able to post threads/replies
Im not sure whether something like this will work here on Guru, but I dont think it can hurt to pop out a mere idea
Yours sincerely
Reinfire

Wanna see the most common cause of bans? Go poke your head into the sell/buy area. They are all short temporary bans, but with the new moderators, they are doing an excellent job finding the violations.

Bane scares me.
I want to commend the mods for giving explanations (in riverside, which i haunt) when they close a thread. I really appreciate that. I'm just weird, but it really gives a sense of closure (pun not intended) to a closed thread. On the other hand, it irks me no end when a thread is simply closed, with no explanation, and no way to PM whoever closed it if you have questions or a reason why it should be reopened.

That's probably because the incriminating posts have been deleted.
I do believe in public humiliation if someone's being completely stupid about the rules, but a lot of violations aren't that bad, and a lot of the time the users who're banned come back and never do anything again. So in that respect I think they deserve to have their reasons kept anonymous.
Closed threads should usually have a reason posted unless it's painfully obvious why they were closed. If you see a closed thread and take umbrage to the fact that it has no reason at all for closure, PM one of the higher-ups and it will be looked into.

Forum rules are clearly posted in each of my sections (Ventari Sell) and it REALLY winds me up when the offender PM consists of "Sorry, I didn't know" or other such crap. They choose to ignore the posts that contain the forum rules yet they expect sympathy from me because they haven't bothered to read them...Grrrr
poor me
