Default Are "Banned" people actually banned?

Just out of curiousity more than anything, I've noticed here and there people with "Banned" as their title, and name is different colour from regular users but they seem to be posting still (e.g. posts Today, unless they were banned a very short time ago)? Are they actually banned or is something else going on here...

They are banned from posting. What you are seeing is either their postings made before the ban or you're looking at MCS who has that as his forum title

If their name is gray or red (depending on your browser) and they have the title "Banned", then they're actually banned. If their name is any other color - green, blue, black, purple - they're part of the site staff and not actually banned. MCS and Herbalizer are the only two I know running around as "Banned".

He might also be asking if those people have perma-bans on guru or just temporary.

I've seen some people throughout the forums with "Banned" titles, but some of them have red names and some have whitish-gray names. Can someone please explain that to me? Thanks in advance.

As Savio said on post #3, if their names are red or whiteish grey, then they are actually banned, If it's a black, green, or other color, then are a mod, and I believe they can change their title at will. Correct me if i'm wrong mods.

Whiteish gray = banned. Bans are not necessarily permenant, but they all look the same.

Moderators can change their titles whenever, and then theres admins, who are just so far above you and me that we wont go there

So the forum just picks a random color to assign to someone who is banned? I know that some of the mods have Banned as their title and I can tell the difference, I'm just wondering about one person who's name is white with the title of Banned and someone who's name is red with the title Banned. Is there any difference between the two?

I think it depends on which browser you're using, too. RPGmaniac's name is dark red, and Wrath's name is black. I've seen a few people who were banned, and their name is still a dark red.

I've given up on trying to figure it out, and just go about my business, and try not to get into any trouble.

Okay, Firefox does not change the color of a name for some reason. Possibly a use of deprecated tags or a bug with CSS. IE, on the other hand, displays the names in a gray color. The forum absolutely does not pick a random number... it's a browser bug and, maybe outdated coding.

Also, by saying RED you are confusing some people. I would call it brown. Look at Gaile Gray's name on guru to see the real red.

And a person with a status as a Site Contributor/Moderator/Administrator is able to change his/hers title to anything.

Alright, you're right about Firefox not being consistant. My main comp uses firefox but I use IE on my laptop and I checked it out and it's all grayish with all the names I see that are banned. Thanks for the help.

Temp bans generally are anywhere between 1 day to 2 weeks. Somtimes longer bans are handed out, but you've got to have had quite a few smaller ones first.

speaking from experience (dang service post redirect..grumble grumble grumble)
bans can be either short-long or permanent....short ones are for the first offense usually (something like bumping a screenshot request in less than the 24 hour period) or posting a non-bid in an auction etc....longer bans are for repeat offenders and such....perm bans....welllllll repeat repeat offenders and things like that.
You may get a warning for some of those if you are newer...but after a certain amount of time the mods assume that you have the rules and guildlines memorized and your ban may be longer......
when in doubt there are rules/guildlines for each forum and they are different for each one too (as I found out the hard way)....so read the stickies at the top they are there for a reason!!!

Mini-bans - 1 day to 2 weeks generally. Some area are softer then others. Also, a lot depends on the mod, and the amount of users notes the user has. A first timer won't get hit with 2 weeks right away, someone with 10+ previous offenses on the other hand might.
