Default Whats the best secondary for a Ranger?

I've been playing a Ranger - Fighter and have found the combination does not work very well in many areas.
I would like to start from scratch. Would a Ranger - Elementalist be good, with water or fire???

monk is always a good choice as a secondary, rangers have better armor than eles and necros so you will have a better chance to stay alive and a hard rez is alway good. the ele secondary isnt a bad choice but with only 3 pips of energy regen compared to 4 with a normal ele you wont be able to take a lot of spells with you and expect to use them in fights.

Make an Elementalist if you want use much spells, a ranger isn't made for it

R/W = nice stances (dryders, lightning reflexes, whirling defense, shield stance, galdiators defense)
R/Mo = hardres (nice condition counters)
R/Me = can take everything down =P (FoW, UW Solo, Cripshot...)
R/E = a bit more damage w/ conjure <element>, I don't really like the combo, tho.
R/A = basically an sin making use of expertise
R/N = the all hated Toucher -> same as R/A
R/D = Combine the ranger stances with condition spreading and the high melee damage through a scythe

Too lazy for this, happy new year =)

drupal forgot the one I'm playing with, R/P - the shouts/burning are making my Ranger a pretty fun damager!

There are billions of threads asking this question. If you are wondering which element works best with a R/E, then I would suggest going with fire for the following combo:

Barrage
Conjure Flame
Mark of Rogdort
Glyph of Lesser Energy

depends what u want if u want damage dealer then go with E as sec and have conjure flame ect.

as for support use Mo for the vigorous barrager build

there are many more and there is really no BEST secondary. IMO rangers dont need the secondary most of the time

R/mo is good cuz ranger is pretty much self suficient and rebirth often comes in handy

R/me is my second favorite for resistance stances (also mantas) and enchant removals

The best secondary for a ranger is X

R/X is by far the best, as it has the power of whatever you need, and the flexibility to become what's needed. Truthfully, there is no reason, excepting early in the game, to peg yourself into a role. Look over the skills, acquire what you need, and don't be afraid to change it up. Last night my ranger was a R/D at first, then a R/A, then just an R really; a few days before it was an R/P and an R/W, and I also run as others when needed. Since for many combinations (particularly spell casting) you only need a few skills it's easy to have them as a viable switch; you want the flexibility to go touch ranger to solo a bit? Capture one elite, buy about 4 skills and presto, you have what you need. You want to play with Fevered Dreams, spreading conditions? Go for it, just change class, cap the elite and have fun. Unless you are really into role playing and can't envision your character switching roles like a schizophrenic every time you play there is nothing stopping you. I'd be so bored playing the same role every time - variety is the spice of life.

Well I prefer to be a R/Mo because I started my ranger in prophecies and you get alot of skills quests there. Normally I change my second a lot but overall I needed monk skills most.. So 'getting the monk skills from quests and buy the rest' was for me the cheapest..

As stated before, there really is no "best" secondary for the ranger.
I really think the ranger is the only class that can stand alone by itself.
I mean, almost all of my ranger builds use mostly or only ranger skills. But, I usually find myself going back to Ra/Mo or Ra/Rit just for the hard rez.
For a really fun combo, I use one of my necros as a curse.
Splinter Weapon + Mark of Pain + vampiric weapon = muchos fun
But also, because rangers have high armor, are not considered "high" priority targets, they tend to be the survivors and thus, having the hard rez is definitely useful.

I like R/Me Because you can use epidemic to spread poison or whatever other condition a ranger inflicts making them a good condition spreader while keeping distance. u can also use echo's with your traps to farm in pve.

My ranger is R/Me. More interrupting awesomeness, many skills to help with trapping and conditions, etc.

Though in all truth, I have found Rangers to be highly well-rounded on their own. They can farm, run, interrupt, etc...

Regardless of what profession you choose, you will not find yourself making use of its skills often.

I like /Mo for Mending Touch or /E for Conjures. I would rather bring a Rt or a /Rt for Splinter weapon than splitting attributes too much
