As usual the Scribe is posting misleading information.
Quote:
|
Across Cantha, Luxon and Kurzick soldiers are rejoicing. In an attempt to gain more recruits, Cantha's vassal states have increased the amount of faction soldiers receive while serving in their armies. Soldiers on both sides of the war have rushed to take advantage of this pay raise, and the number of new recruits has reached an all-time high.
|
If this was actually a pay raise, then you would get more money as a result of these changes.
Rather, Jade is selling for the horribly-low price of 700g right now which means what has happened is the exact opposite of a pay raise.

Uhh, faction IS the payment for battling (and therefor pay raise). What you do with the faction is up to you, but you aren't paid in jadeite/amber just because you can transfer your battle payment into it; so it isn't misleading.
Edit (for below): Once again, they NEVER talk about a monetary gain AND they specifically state what the reward is (faction, not money). Faction's main purpose is to donate to guilds, being able to convert it to jadeite/amber is a secondary nice benefit. Considering what the main purpose of it was, and that they state what the raise was. There was a pay raise (since you get paid in faction to up the standing of your alliance). The Scribe is intended to RP-ish, take it for what it is, not what you want it to be.

So you get more faction, yet you get paid way less money for that faction. Still not a pay raise. It's a pay cut. The Scribe's wording makes it seems as if soldiers are now making more money even though they are not, and in fact the opposite is true. Players who didn't get Factions yet and read that Scribe article are going to be misled into thinking that AB's now lead you to making more money than ever before, when in actuality they now make you less money than ever before. It's also not "added rewards" as the Scribe also claims, seeing as you actually get less money. Definitely misleading.

Right... but... not everyone uses faction for the sole purpose of selling amber/jade. Some people actually, you know, use the amber. That's why prices stay up at all, because people buy it to use it. They would see it as a pay raise. Some people use it for faction farming. They would see it as a pay raise too. To semi-quote Obi-Wan: "You will find that many truths depend upon your point of view." It's not misleading since they are DIRECTLY paying you more faction. If you want to talk about how they are paying you INDIRECTLY you can make it say whatever the heck you want to, which is rather pointless.

Faction IS your pay.
Thus... 750 to 1200 is a pay raise.
What you do with the faction is not up to your army.
Are you making less gold? Yes. But the army doesn't pay you in gold.

Faction = how important you are in your alliances culture.
you tell me how it's not a form of payment if a world leader comes to you and says, do this for me and we'll owe you big time. No mention of money and infact you'ld probably get way more if you used the favor correctly rather than saying say, ok, I'll do it for 1 million (etc) dollars. Faction is how important you are, money is just, well, money.

I like how the Scribe points out a few people who have "done nice deeds and done em dirt cheap". I may be a bit optimistic but hopefully this will encourage people to do the same. I especially how the Scribe saw some guy handing out free Canthan weapons in Ascalon to arm new recruits. I think that's a great perspective.

I don't think it is intended as a source of new info.
The 'random acts of kindness' is a nice way to encourage good behaviour in-game. The other stuff feels like something for the RPG crowd.
Personally, after giving it 3 chances, I won't read it anymore. It's not meant for me probably.

I like it. Its trying to create some lore behind the updates Like when they added the scarabs to Prophet's Path.
Although...i dont consider handing out weapons to soldiers in a time of war to be an act of kindness o.o;

The guy is roleplaying as a traveling scribe, he's giving information from the point of view of a character, not a game developer. Is this really that hard for people to grasp? If you're not into RP, then you won't get anything out of the Scribe. Solution...don't read it. We get plenty of game-based announcements as is; let us have our fun eh?

Factoring in before and now prices on the materials....I dont know. Before, it took you 13 matchs of all winning (at ~750 a match) to get 10,000 faction, that bought you 10 amber/jade. Now, it takes you (again, assuming you win everytime) ~9 matches to get the same capped faction.
Basically, I'm telling you, you are making more profit on average per match even with the lowered prices, simply because you get more faction a match, which buys more materials in shorter amounts of matches.

Actually, 8 times 1250 is exactly 10k faction, excluding that gained from kills.

yes for some strange reason. But I enjoy reading it. I think it be cool to be listed on the scribe!
IMO people who complain about the pvp at the Fort Aspenwood should read it for it gives good ideals on how to play it.

...Now, however, the Kurzicks are beginning to change all that. They have begun merging into one large force rather than splitting into groups, which allows them to focus their strength...
...Either way, the outcome is more often determined by the Luxon's reaction to a mass of foes than to how well the Kurzicks actually fight as one...
...Luxons are avoiding direct confrontation and gaining more resource points, causing the strategy of working as a large group to lose effectiveness...
....It is only when the Luxons face the Kurzicks directly that they fail...
