Default R/A or A/R

Pretty new to GW and was looking for a versatile class.

I am curious if it really makes a huge difference of the main, if I plan to primarily run a combo of Ranger, Assassin?

Thanks much.

as an assasin you'll have 1 extra pip of energy regen. you'd also be able to maintain shadow form better, which is kinda a part of the game now.

Critical strikes is a nice attribute, very good energy management.

The only thing I'd say R/A has over A/R is the R/A Whirling Farmer, which uses the ranger attribute Expertiese.

Just pick the one you like, Rangers are okay at using daggers, sins are okay at using bows.

well when it comes to certain farms, A/R usually gets away with it, rangers have (usually) elemental defense and armor which in turn can be used to negate alot of elemental dmg (such as dragon mos farming) with a shield set against the element that the enemy deals during that farm and such sins can pretty much do the same, upon refreshment of Shadowform the dmg is negated alltogether for an endured time. Sins last sf longer and have an additional -6 dmg i do beleive which a ranger could handle anyway. just personal preference

Funny enough on some farms i do using sf and sin - i never max sf atts , yes its nice having something like 2 or 3 secs extra on sf but it can make you real lazy and leave sf till its flashing. Also it tends to make using sf on other chrs more constant as on all you have exactly same timed use of sf.
R/A whirling is always fastest with A/R just behind but only bacause of 2 factors - R/A gets the armor boost and better dmg via whirling , sin only gets a few secs longer sf but lower dmg via whirling and a few secs more time consuming per run

Depends on what you want to do:

* If you want to eventually farm or do speed runs or zone clearings with people, Assassin primary.

* If you want to go for the Survivor title eventually (gain 1.3 million or so XP without dying), Ranger.

* If you want to play through the game, Ranger.

the way it really is:
* If you want to eventually farm or do speed runs or zone clearings with people, Assassin primary to start off with Ranger primary when you get more exp.
* If you want to go for the Survivor title eventually (gain 1.3 million or so XP without dying), Assasin or Ranger.
* If you want to play through the game, profession dosent really matter heros will do most of the work.

overall assassin is a better starting char these days

Rangers are a far more diverse class. R/ is better with a bow, has superior energy management, depending on how heavily you invest in Expertise. You can wield daggers with Expert's Dexterity; maintainable 33% IAS with high AL vs elemental damage.

Experts dexterity sucks, you basically choose to go with zero defense and still do shitty damage compared to an assassin. While you could be dealing almost the same damage using Escape and Lightning Reflexes with insane defense.

Given proper builds, A/R or R/A really doesn't even matter in general PVE. In many ways it's different but the same. For instance Assassin does more damage then ranger, but has less defense which means you need more heals in your team. Ranger has less damage, but more defense, which means you need less healing and can bring more damage.

Farming wise, assassins can run more but rangers can run stuff assassins can't. Which means you fit in to a niche market as far as running and farming goes, getting easier teams or making more per run because runs happen more rarely. That said they often also need more PCcons to do it, so assassins are the cheaper option.

Overall, I'd say that for a new player. Assassin might just be a better choice.

You have bar compression, maintainable 33% IAS and still have natural elemental resistance. Defencefags piss me off and like you said, your heroes can compensate for any isssues. Not that there will be any.

Adding this: Ranger play is much more fluid while assassins rely on enchants which take time to cast and are removed a lot easier than stances.
