PS3 Joystick Setup
I currently use a PowerA PS3 USB game pad on my PC. They are about $20+ at stores and are plug and pray compatible. In total you have 13 buttons and 2 analog sticks. This won't replace the need to use keyboard or mouse but enhances your gaming experience greatly.

This is the layout for the PowerA, I am certain you could apply this to 360 USB sticks as well.
Since Guild Wars will not recognize a Joystick I use JoytoKey which allows you to customize your controls. The left analog stick on mine is set to W,A,S, and D while my right emulates the mouse. I have my top bumpers set to Crtl and ALT keys.
Another feature of JoytoKey is the buttons can emulate multiple keys. So my X is set to "c spacebar" which gives me the nearest enemy to attack. Square is set to "; spacebar" to grab objects dropped. You can set your joystick the way you like, but if you give it some thought spell combos could be set to just one button.
I find this is very useful out in the explorable areas. Once back in town I grab the keyboard and mouse to interact with my inventory items. Maybe this won't be for everyone but I find it a relaxing way to play.

Thats actually quite cool. I use Motionin Joy ds3tool to interface a ps3 controller to play TrackMania, might actually be possible to make a profile for GW.

i already read that the original poster left this forum, if anyone here talks to the (OP) red witch in the game, i wuld like to know the setup she is using on her model works. i am using an xbox 360 controller... should of bought the ps3 since she said it is plug and play. i had a heck of a time getting a driver for the 360 stick and it cost more too.
but ok it is working now. what i want to know is i tried several combos already and not sure what is best. i have my mini map 'u' key for back, map 'm' key for start, my home button is 'f12' logout, left stick is 'wasd', rigth stick is 'mouse', right and left bumper are right and left mouse buttons, my a,b,x,y are skills 1-8 using 2 each. i set my left and right triggers to attack and pick up.
now i am trying to think of stuff to assign to the stick buttons and pov hat...
-------------------------------updated-------------------------
ok i got an email address and spoke with the OP.

her's stick is setup different than mine is but here is my final layout;
A) Primary Attack Skills - slot 1 and 2
B) Secondary Attack Skills - slot 3 and 4
X) Primary Heal - slot 5 and 6
Y) Secondary Heal - slot 7 and 8
left trigger) pick up item
right trigger) attack nearest foe
left bumper) LMB
right bumper) RMB
back) mini map
start) map
center/home) F12 logout
pov up) zoom in or mouse wheel +10
pov dn) zoom out or mouse wheel -10
pov right) ctrl
pov left) alt
left stick dn) auto run
right stick dn) inventory and quests
left stick) w,a,s,d
right stick) mouse
that is the best layout i can configure.

I recently had a similar setup, however I wonder if it's possible to setup (hold trigger+a,b,x,y for skills 5-8).
