Default Old newb stuck with a mission

I decided to reinstall my GW1 after quite a few years of not playing it, thanks to the insistence of my son who wanted to try it out. Tbh, it got me slightly addicted again as well :P BUT now it seems there aren't many people playing the game anymore, so if there was a real chance of finding people to do tricky missions with five years ago, it's not so now. Namely, Dunes of Despair is simply undoable without a non-henchman monk. Which, being a necromancer/elementalist, I find beyond frustrating. Even if I equip whatever remotely healing spells that I have, Ghostly Hero ends up dead and I fail. What can I do to proceed?

are you going for the bonus?
If not, add both monk henchies (I am assuming you dont have heroes), flag them next to the ghostly hero....and go and kill the stuff that comes in--you can even kill the worms (if you have meteor shower or other fire aoe these work pretty good on them).

Nah, don't care about the bonus as such, just want to do the main thing. I realise I'm somewhat incompetent as to what concerns henchmen management:P

Well, tried it this way and another, flagged monks, etc. Whatever i do i fail.

That is a really hard mission to solo. I don't think I was able to, unless I had heroes. In any light, I would be more than happy to try and help out. I don't know your time zone, but I'm Eastern time, and I'm usually on in the afternoons. I can give it a go for ya.

It is tricky solo but I found that the most important thing of all is to take aggro ASAP, cut off the attack before they get to the King first or they will focus fire on him. AI monks are much better at healing your own party members, so even if this means putting yourself in a bad tactical position, it is probably safer than letting the mobs approach the King.

You don't have to save him just to complete the mission, it is only for the bonus.

I believe you're thinking of Thirsty River with that.

Dunes of Despair bonus not hard if you do it first using the Necrotic Traversal trick... even with all heroes (and hard mode).

For the main part all you need to do is be proactive in attacking the foe as they approach... which is much easier if you know the mish.

PM me here and I will give you a hand through Dunes.

Huge thanks to cosyfiep who got me through the Dunes of Despair. Seemed like there was nothing to it when she did it... And now I'm stuck at Thirsty River (only to be expected of course) *sighs* If anyone fancies giving me a hand with that - I'd appreciate that very much. Seems like nothing else will move forward unless I get the Crystal Desert missions done...

AND some more thanks to cosyfiep who got me through the last one of the three pre-ascencion missions. Now it's just me against the doppelgänger, which is proving really tricky with the massive lag i'm suddenly experiencing. Also, wiki told me to use spells that do absolutely nothing to help me, as i'm dead within a minute.

Awesome! At least you got through one. I'll be logged in for a while, so pm here if you'd like and I'll see if I can't get you through it.

Edit: Nvm, got here too late :P

Can Ascencion be bypassed in any way? Because i don't see a way of defeating doppelganger tbh.

I don't think it can, because after you defeat your double you get sent to the mission with the Dragon. At least that's how I remember it.

Bring Insidious Parasite, Enfeeble, and an otherwise empty skillbar, and let the doppelganger kill itself.

good luck

if you want to add a few skills (your secondary is ele) add attunements to slow down the dopple from getting a hit on you before you get insidious off (air attunement, fire, water or earth), and then no other skills...and make sure you have maxed out curses in your attributes!
do not fight, let the dopple hit you at range, do not close--insidious will heal you and do more damage it.

Lol now i'm stuck in the ice cave of sorrow. Talk about an eternal loser :P Weird, though... The first time i started the mission, i got through both caves quite ok, didn't even die once in the hands of those nasty mursaat, except for running out too early from the second one, not letting the huge group pass, and getting ruthlessly slaughtered. Started the mission again, and each time i tried, i got killed earlier and earlier in the mission. Bah humbug i say. Is it my equips perhaps? Maybe I should focus on picking random chests in the desert and shiverpeaks for a better weapon? Or getting better armour from collectors? Armour is mostly +51, and the staff i'm using has dark damage 10-19 with various additional stats on it. I realise it might sound hopelessly newbish :P

For sure you need to get a better weapon. Max damage for a staff is 11-22. Make sure that if its a r11 fire magic staff for example, you set your fire magic to at least 11 or you won't do any damage.. Also, make sure it's modified correctly. Add an "insightful" staff head which can give up to 5 extra energy, and either a +30hp or quickening staff wrapping which can halve the casting time of your spells.

Is your armour from the crafters in Droknars Forge? That's the earliest point to get max level armour in Prophecies, however, a quick ferry ride from Lions Arch takes you to the Kaineng Center in Cantha where you can also get max armour.

Make sure you have the max armour possible for your character. And get it infused as soon as possible. Mursaat tear through non-infused armour in seconds. (Is it the ice cave mission that has the seer for armour infusion? It's been so long I can't remember). And make sure your armour is fully runed. It makes a huge difference.

Max

Well... now i'm feeling truly stupid. Because i didn't understand half of what you said. I think. Umm lemme see if i understood you correctly: I need to pick every available chest in the desert and shiverpeak to demolish the weapons to get upgrade stuff from them. Also, pick up purple armour pieces from mobs and get upgrade components to upgrade my own after i get maximum protection armour from some collector. That correct?

Hmm, kind of, but there is another way.

Instead of thinking about collectors and chests, just buy the components. I know that sounds presumptive, but it's far easier. There are places in towns where you can craft maximum damage weapons for about 5000 gold. There are green weapons available, called unique items. Many of these are available free from players. They all come with ready-maxed stats. Just choose the one you want. Also, instead of hoping for runes to drop from mobs, go to the rune trader in towns and buy the runes.

All armour can be upgraded. All weapons can be upgraded. Try and get the max possible at the earliest opportunity.

If cash is an issue then I can give you plenty of gold to make all of this possible. You sound like a perfect candidate for Jenn's giveaway. She is giving away valuable items to people who need them. You can sell these for lots of gold to buy your weapons and runes. She has a thread right now in the giveaways section of Ventari's section here on guru.

Hope this helps.

Max.
