Default Official Thread: Another Community Event, Oktoberfest! Planning Area.

Alright kiddies and kiddettes! The time has come to launch the planning thread for my Oktoberfest event. After the success of the Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball, I have decided to have an event sometime in late October, right before Halloween. If you are not familiar with the Ball, please head to these places for a quick review of what it was and how much fun it was!

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10144641
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWCec40BcBs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4WMP8REXsI

In this thread, I would like player input on what you would like to see offered at the event! Please keep in mind, it must be achievable by a single person, namely me, so keep the requests fairly reasonable.

A few things to remember:

Please do not request special items, as I am not part of the dev team in anyway, and cannot fulfill those requests.

If you suggest an activity, try to remember that each activity may require staffing, and think about how many people would be required for that position.

For those of you that are going to donate yet again or for first time donators, start saving stuff now if you can fit it, I think we are going to need a lot more then last time!

Another issue I have run into. Where to hold the event?!!? I am leaning towards Henge of Denravi, because it can fit a large number of people (being that it is a city, not an outpost), and its amphitheatre would provide a nice grounds for some fun events and an area for me to stand to host the event.

So, I welcome thoughts and ideas, and hope to make this event so much better then the Ball was, considering I learned from a few mistakes I made, and a little better book keeping and management should alleviate those issues this time around! BRING ON THE BRAINSTORMING!

Yes. Yes yes yes yes.

Where to hold the event? None other then the great Droknar's Forge, of course. I mean your graphic has beer on it - the religious symbol of dwarven culture! Why not at Drok's?

I thought about droks ID1, but then I remembered but one little issue. The chinese sellers spamming insanely. So, I think that is out of the question because of that sole reason. But yeh, good idea otherwise.

What about Yak's Bend, or Beacon's Perch. They are pretty small though, but they have graphics similar to Drok's, without the Chinese farmers. I'll try and get some beer together, though I gave away most of my reserves at the Ball. I think I have some fireworks left over aswell.

And, just to point it out, Oktoberfest is actually in September, but it dosnt really matter.

plz do not plan the event during the actual oktoberfest in germany :P since im going to be there 25 26 27 sept. And i would love to come to this social event

Hereby i donate 40K for the event! i know not much but im kinda low atm :P

For an event! maybe a drinking game who says " I'm gonna be sick " is out and last is the winner? Dont know precisely but isnt the order of the sentences random? + the tekst appear above the heads so its easy to pick the diehard drinker out :P As a reward he gets 10 extra beers :P

Henge of denravi is a good place for the event! The theater is nice!

gl with the preps! Feel free to send a pm if ya need a hand and ill help out with the planning and prepping!

Good luck

Edgar

How about Camp Rankor?

Reasonably accessible, and low population.

I'm in favor of Denravi. It's natural, big, and, if you haven't seen it, there's this awesome stage in Denravi made out of what appears to be a gigantic tree. We could host costume contests and other things there.

Other candidates:
-D'Alessio Seaboard
-Quarrel Falls
-Granite Citadel

The stage in Denravi is good but the rest of the outpost is pretty boring - I wouldn't go for that myself.

I think Beetletun could be a good choice of location. The pleasant little village feel seems ideal to me. Plus there's plenty of room to move around, with a fairly large central space and a few paths off to the sides that people could wander around. The hill with the wooden watchtower could be used for authority. Event staff could hang around the various houses. It's well laid out, but not too centralised either... since the central area isn't so large, people would probably spread out naturally.

But maybe that's just me loving Kryta too much

Good input guys. So far, we seem to be favoring Henge, kryta area. The only issues I see that come from having it in an outpost again, is population cap. Cities can support a lot more then outposts, which would cut down on the number of districts, seeing as I had to deal with 4 districts at one point during the ball. But, I might consider an outpost just for looks.

Oktoberfest.... you always seem to outdo yourself, Rahja. The Ascalonian Ball was a blast, so Oktoberfest should not be any different. Count me in.
Due to this extreme long-term planning, I will not contribute anything yet, but I will begin to stockpile and green/gold farm in anticipation. I would like to help in any (well mostly any) way possible, so I will keep a tab on this thread and see what you need.

@ Location : Henge of Denravi would be a very nice place to do it. Not a lot of people there (since most skip it by running to SC) and a city will be able avoid some of the problems that happened during the ball (like ball staff not being about to get in XD), and its pretty. Good choice IMO.

Thanks for doing this again!

Well since i can't go to real oktober fest i want to have it in game! I like Henge a lot and it has some of great places to have fun. It is also a town and cause of that it has a lot bigger population cap than outpost. Concerning items, i would only request a lot of beer. All kinds but it has to be a lot of it. And in my oppinion you should be selling those bear for low but reasonable prices. Some other drinks could be fine too. This is the event that i musn't miss!

I agree that the Henge would work best. The outpost size caused overpopulation and therefore schedule and staffing problems last time - too many districts, not enough staff, lack of ability to shift staff.

And it was still an amazing time.

I've been collecting greens, etc., since then. I'll probably make the donation around the beginning of Sept., but promise at least 10 greens and a few nice golds (and maybe a few lockpicks).

Places i would recommend~

Honur Hill ~ Elona, Vabbi

Mihanu Township (definately worth taking a look at) ~Elona, Vabbi

Bai Paasu Reach~ Cantha, Luxon Territory (Always raining there, something different, plus they have what can be used as a makeshift bar )

Kodlonu Hamlet~ (it's spacey, nice looking, has tables + chairs simply or the roleplaying side of things.) Elona~ Istan

By far my most favourite location to hold an event would be...

Nundu Bay~ This outpost is massive, lengthy and it's on a beach in a cove. Imho, ideal for the or any event.

Hedge would be a good idea for an outpost but we have a bigger issue.

DRINKS. We NEEEEDDD drinks LOTS AND LOTS OF DRINKS. Every kind of drink, plety of servers, and DRINKS.

You need to buy enough drinks to get 1000 max drunkard titles and then get more

I'll donate some drinks and sugget this to my friends.
