The Ele is not out of the Game
Nukers are not gone, we just have to enclude a water Ele into our team builds.
Also if this was intended to hault the Famers it took me about 2 runs to fix my Inv Monk at the Griffens which means farmers can do the same thing.
Now do I like the patch, no I do not. To make a skill that is heavy in the Ele builds useless (not just fire nukers),and to a degree alot of others is not right. I have to agree with one that wrote that petition take them out and replace them with something else how would the Ranger like too see half of their skills not usable? Also if you are not careful (Even if you are Careful)in the FoW and many other places a wrong placed AoE will mean death for your team now those running mobs will pull tons to your grp. That will cause ill feelings in way too many groups. Thus taking the fun out of the game, for many already you can see in your guild some just could not take it tonight in frustration logged out. I spent quit a few hours working out kinks so that tomorrow I can pass on the information to mine. But some of this can not be worked out with builds, the biggest issue will be other players in groups and how they treat people when it goes wrong. Also I have seen post about maybe now they will need Mes's, Necro and Rangers. Will funny thing is I play all those toons and include them in my groups since you see I know what damage Barrage does, and the beauty of disrupts; and a fast casting Mes owns..Also it is awesome to see AoE damage a Necro can do and never forget they make wonderful support for all in energy and health.
Now that was more than 2 cent worth.

I enjoy farming, because I enjoy seeing the little digits in my storage account go up. I also enjoy buying new and shiny things for my characters to wear/use. Who are you, to tell me which way to play MY game, which I paid the same amount of money for. What you find fun, and what I find fun, are obviously different things altogether. My idea of fun is NOT chasing monsters all over the place and taking twice as long as before (an exaggeration I know) to complete missions.

There is a lot I want to say, but I'll try to keep it short. I just came back to GW from a 2 month break. An hour before the update I bought Rago's Flame Staff for my ele, and I have to say that I'm pretty upset with the update.
Now I had my fire ele since the beta and I just can't bring myself to delete her. I have tried earth, air, and water magic before and I didn't like it. I am pretty adamant about her being a fire ele. I change her skills around many times and I finally had her where I wanted her. But now I have to change it yet again. It's not like I mind a challage, but it's becoming too frequent. Anet why mess with the classics?I will yet again change her skills around.
Now I'm looking at my guide and there's 17 fire skills, and correct me if I'm wrong, I see 6 skills that aren't aoes. Ok so thats 11 skills not worth anything, and thats just from fire mages. Now I might could use a few of them. I know other classes have been hit too with the update, but not as hard as fire ele's.
I really don't mind that AI's move when using an aoe but, make it like a 50% chance. Every time is too much. I hope anet you will balance this update so us fire ele's can be usful. Until then I will extend my break and play other games until Chapter 2. See you all next year!
~kbealow~
P.S. Just to make it clear. I don't care what anet does to farmer (as I don't have one). I'm more consered with my fire ele (who is as precious to me as my necro who I've had since beta). Please Anet let us fire ele's live!

Can i just say people that athough most of YOU have brains, alot of people dont.
WE all know mesmers are good to have, but typicly they are shunned.
Now elementalists will get shuned just like mesmers as alot of peoples attitued will be / Eles are useless since the update.
WE all know this is not the cast, but alot of people wont.
EDIT

As far as im concerned its still to buggy for AOE to be counted out, they just keep running back in from what ive seen so far.

twicky, gonna refer you to a Zoolooman post from way earlier in this thread(no, I am not going to wade through all those pages to find it), basically that comments like that are irrelevant to this discussion. Whether they've got the "best" skill for damage dealing or not is moot, given that 99% of all eles are built and brought along into groups for their damage-dealing abilities. I may be able to argue that eles have the single best tank skill in the entire game(I can't, but let's just say I could successfully argue the point), but it doesn't mean a damned thing because you probably wouldn't see them being used for tanking anyways.
You know what though, nevermind, I'm just going to have to start ignoring your posts twicky because I get the sense that arguing with you on the topic of this update is going to be like beating my skull against a brick wall; the wall isn't going to understand, and I'm just going to end up with a headache.

a) I welcome any step to make PvE a bit harder, and trying to evade AoE damage seems to have made monster AI a BIT more similar to the way a human might react when standing in a Firestorm.
b) My farming seems unaffected by the update.
c) If this update would lead that finally my Mesmer will be finally taken into UW/FoW groups instead of a 4th(!) Fire nuker, then I am all for it. If it would lead to Mesmers and other discriminated classes to even get _harder_ into a group because people start to take 4 Fire Nukers and 1 Water Mage, then I am going to hate it. Only time will tell, I guess.
d) The only problem I can now see is that it's way harder to properly tank now. If my said little Mesmer gets hit by a stray Ataxe, she's dead meat. Maybe here's some room for further tweaking...

Don't think so, nice I only use trapping for farming, rangers have other means to deal damage.
Since you don't know me I don't feel you in a place to predict the future if this change ever took place. Besides a change like that would never take place... why would a trap affect only one person? That doesn't even make sense.

Seems like ANet doesn't have to make sense when they completely change the game in one patch.

update change of heart
At first I was furious because of the update but now I dont think its such a bad Idea...I switched 1 of my eles to a spike build that is just as effective as fire and only takes a little more expertise. I am doing the same amounts of damage and its fun testing new builds. I am still a little upset that I spent so much making my nuker what she was and now shes not but hey...times change and I am actually enjoying the challenge (despite the financial setback). as far as the farming goes, you can still farm, but its great that people cant solo the difficult areas and hurt the economy...they have to implement "teams" now and "teamwork"....what a MMORPG should be about anyways. I am niether for or against this update...its bound to happen and it adds to the character of the game. I mean, wasnt it getting old...draw, meteor, repeat if necessary?...It was for me. I wont quit a game because they threw a curve ball....I'll adapt and overcome...it wont be long before this whole update is a thing of the past...tons of new builds are already working just fine. Think about it...I was just as angry at first but now I like it.

Makes sense if the trap only gets triggered once, insted of multiple times/time period with some traps. It takes longer to hit an area with a spell than it does to setup a trap that lasts till its triggered in many instances. I think the larger abuse of them is planting them under the feet of something that is supposed to trigger it, yet they are smart enough not to hit the user who planted it or anyone on the same team. That is an "accepted" game mechanic though.

hit the nail on the head

but... I'll just quote myself from another thread:
Finally... I was one of the last to start farm... I didnt want to - knowing it would ruin my point of view GW... but I started Mo/W farming... yeah sure - I earned alot but hey... BORING!
I sugested in several forums ways to destroy farming and BP-> DF run... wurmz are excellent. Im glad they nerfed the farming - its not broken though - but I think they nerfed AoE too much... then again - now its calling for more teamplay... ex KD + slow + AoE... sounds good to me
...and to all you ppl whining about farming and quitting/playing WoW - be my guest - GW wont miss you. Its cuz of farming the economics and trades are a big mess in GW...
View some of the first interviews with the producers of GW and the intention of GW... its about SKILLS not hours spend farming...
besides if you dont even have enough skills to make a new farming build... your a nOOb
the main problem with the update is the running paterns and that they wont follow you very far - the AoE AI-update is just a dmg problem wich quite easily can be solved
So what they really did was making the farming taking 3-5 times longer for the same run
- CoCantz
lets give it up for Anet *applause*

Hmm... let's review:
Facts:
-ANet has just released the most controversial update in the game's history. Whether you're with those that think it's good or those that think it's bad, you'll all agree this is the biggest reaction in the history of the game.
-Nukers are now entirely worthless. Do not try to argue this; EVERY AoE spell in the game is now in the category of "laughable".
-This update's effects in no way are limited to just "Fire Nukers" or "Smiting Monks". Earth Eles, Water Eles, and Domination Mesmers (just to name a few) are also among those who are probably feeling quite affected.
-If your primary (in many cases, only) interest in GuildWars is PVP, then you have no right to comment for or against this update. It is not right for you to come and laugh at PVE players and rub this update in our faces; that would be like me, someone who has never played WoW, going on their forums and laughing at them about an update. It doesn't effect you.
-Not all PVE players participate in PVP, and vice versa. Assuming that all do is simply not correct.
-The night of the update (11/10/05), every major city, outpost, and mission town in the entire game featured a heated discussion about how much those discussing the update hated it.
-ANet has faithfully done as the majority of the player population of the game has demanded. When bugs are discovered, they are fixed in a timely manner. If something is ridiculously unbalanced, it has been fixed.
-Saying that it's good that AoE spells now cause enemies to "run away" is a tad absurd; these spell's primary job is to cause damage according to everything I've ever learned about any AoE spell in the history of RPGs. If ANet intended for these spells to cause enemies to do as they are doing now, they all would have been dumped in the "Protection Prayers" attribute of the Monk class.
-Smiting=Damage. Nuking=Damage. If the spells catogorized as one of these two do not do as they are defined by the community, then they are broken and should be fixed, or their descriptions should be changed to reflect what they actually do.
-My first character through the game was a Ranger; my second a Mesmer. Getting groups was never impossible, and when I did get them I was confident that they were not the "PUGs" that many of us veteren players fear because these types of groups do not pick up such classes.
-I have several primary Elementalists in my Guild, and none of them are primary "Fire Nuker" nor "Echo Nuker". Water (in particular, Maelstrom) was the key to the game, not Fire Magic nor Meteor Shower.
-The night of this update (11/10/05) my Guild got a group together and took on FOW with a group including two Rangers, one Mesmer, three Monks, one Warrior and one Necromancer. We killed everything that we killed (all the way through to the forest) faster than we've ever killed things with nukes, including Echo nuking. The drops were also better.
My Conclusions:
-Clearly the standard image of a team in PVE is not the only way to play the game. Can we say, "duh"?
-There are obvious problems with the update. As it is, enemies move in a way that I might believe was intended in an April Fool's Day Update.
-As tradition shows, ANet will fix anything in the game that does not work as they intended. Either the enemy's reactions to certain skills or those certain skill's descriptions will be changed very, very soon.
-If the grand majority of the population of the game absolutely hates this update, it will be undone.

I agree with 99% of what you wrote...one of my friends and I were killing stuff faster than ever (we both switched up builds on our ...ahem...used to be nukers...she took water and I took air...we dominated everything from ice tooth caves to beacons...100% clearance of the zones...not one death...no one else in the group. A net will reverse this if the majority of players dont agree...but to me it doesnt matter...Im having a blast with my newest build

meh I see no problems with it. Just means 1. monsters are less dumb and 2. henchies are less dumb. Nice as it is to wipe things out in 0.2 seconds coz they wont move, how long do YOU stand in a firestorm or symbol of wrath?
btw I haven't had a chance to test it yet. It says they have the chance to notice the AoE. Surely this means some of them will be too 'engrossed' in what they're doing (as are many players when maelstrom is cast) to realise whats going on and still stand there? If this is the case, then thats even better. If not... well you'll just have to tweak your builds.
edit: oh and i also think the doppleganger shouldn't have been weakened. People are beating it at lvl 3 as it is, so clearly it was never too hard.

DeathDealer: Thank you. I don't really think it should be 100% reversed... but it does need to be tweaked. I'm sure all will be set right soon.
Oh, and what was the 1% you didn't agree with? :-P
