OFFICIAL SCHEDULE:
Thursday, October 26 Lion's Arch and Kamadan are decorated in the Halloween Spirit

Saturday, October 28 Various NPCs and holiday characters begin appearing in Lion's Arch and Kamadan

Tuesday, October 31 Mad King Thorn makes appearances every three hours through the day in Lion's Arch and Kamadan. His first appearance will take place at 12:01 a.m. PST and his final appearance will begin on Wednesday, November 1 at 12:01 a.m. PST.

The Mad King is DONE. No more visits till next year~
Hopefully this char will be usable again next year.

Mad King Games:

The name of the King pretty much speaks for itself, he's completely nuts! So what more could you expect from his games. From observation the King went through three phases of games before giving out a Pumpkin Crown and leaving. Phases are:

Phase 1 - Do as the King says, or die...

After some minor introductions from the Mad King he wasted no time to get everyone there to entertain him. At this point he would tell jokes and explain us to /laugh, ask us to play music like the /flute and the ever funny /beg. Those who followed his orders were rewarded with Halloween collectables, those who didn't died!

Phase 2 - Rock, Paper and Scissors

After a few /emote games then Mad King wanted to prove a point by challenging a random member of the crow to a game of Rock, paper and scissors. If you won or draw again the Mad King, you were rewarded with a collector item, losing resulted in... You guess it, death! The Mad King would do about 4-6 rounds of this before going back to phase one games.

Phase 3 - The Mad King says....

After about 20 minutes of phase 1 and 2 the Mad King then moves onto the final phase of the games... a round of Simon Says! Anyone who played this game in real life knows how it works, if the King says "Mad King says Jump!” you have about three seconds to do it, or die. But what was more funny was when he just said "Jump!” anyone doing the /emote would drop death... it was very funny to see so many people not getting it!

At the END of his visit, the Mad King will give a special gift to all participants.
If you leave your character AFK inside the green circle you SHOULD be able to get a hat/pumpkin
Some players have reported being able to get multiple hats for other characters by jumping to higher numbered districts because not all the districts are synchronized.

YOU DONT NEED TO TRADE ANYTHING TO GET A HAT. Just be there in the green circle area.

I've confirmed this: DEATHS VIA THE MAD KINGS GAMES DO NOT ADD TO YOUR DEATH COUNT

Prophecies players in Lion's Arch gets a NEW pumpkin hat called Furious Pumpkin Crown while Nightfall players in Kamadan get a Wicked Hat!!!!

Mad King's Guards



The Mad King's Guards are special Necromancer Henchmen. You can add them to your party and they are handy helpers

In Kamadan, they are lvl 3 using the skills: Mark of Pain, Feast of Corruption, Taste of Death, Animate Bone Minions, and Ressurection Signet

In Lion's Arch, the guards are lvl 12 using the same skills.

There were Scary horseman in each of the major cities (Ascalon City, Lion's Arch, Henge of Denravi and Droknar's Forge) giving out the following items in exchange for items dropped by mobs. Gives us a reason to farm now does it!

Information on the four collectable items is as follows:

Witch's Brew:

Collectable item, has only one use. When used it produces the same effect as using Dwarven Ale, basically the screen becomes stranger with it use... you become drunk! In addition to this your character will start to act odd, saying random things and do /emotes without you typing. Good fun.

After some further testing it seems that a single Witch's Brew causes the same effect of taking about 2 or 3 Dwarven Ales.

Squash Serum:

A collectable item has only one use. When used a transparent pumpkin will appear on your characters head. Only lasts a few seconds, but the effect is pretty cool.

Ghost-in-the-Box:

A collectable item has only one use. When used a cute little ghost pops out, makes a noise and says "Boo!” Interestingly when used in PvE all mobs will attack the ghost, making it a handy decoy. Also once the ghost dies/ends it produces the effect of Soul Reaping which provides energy to all nearby Necromancers.

Ghost-in-the-box cannot be used during PvP, so they aren't useful for the Tombs.

Absinthe:

A collectable item has only one use. Absinthe is an interesting item, if you ever had any in real life, it’s a very strong drink don't you know? When used it makes your character glow green fire for a few moments. Having too many (Five in a row) results in the screen going a green matrix/bullet-time style for a short while.

NEW FOR 2006!!!!!
Transmogrifier Tonic: This new item gives your character a disguise called Avatar of Sweetness. You have the emotes of the female necro. Looks kinda cool Its supposed to last 5 minutes, according to the text, but it lasts 50 minutes!!!
It appears to be only available in Elona!

Mistakes: In Lion's Arch theres an NPC that uses the Ghost skin, but is labeled Lionguard. But his dialogue says he's a Tengu that got turned into a human!!!!!

Also....the talking corpse in LA is missing!!!!!

i've had terrible trouble trying to collect sentient roots, getting one in an hour of farming... i travelled from kamadam right thru to kodonlu hamlet killing every single jacaranda and iboga i found.... evil things... lol

i'm going to try just sticking to the plains and see how i fair

I use my ranger, i have 5 run skills and 3 bow skills. Takes about 3-4 minutes and you get from 6-10 sentient roots and 2-3 carapaces if you know where they spawn

There will be DIFFERENT Gifts given out by the Mad King in Kamadan and Lion's Arch.

That would suck. Then I probably won't be able to get more than 1 item from the king.

I have school on tuesday so I already probably won't even be able to get one thing for each of my characters (that is if he comes every 2 hours like it says he will, and you have to be there exactly at a certain time to get the item, just like the dragon festival), but then making us get items, and only telling us what they are the day that the mad king gives stuff out?

My favorite part of these events probably are trying to get a customized item for every single one of my characters, but making us get items and not telling us what they are before hand would just ruin the event...for me at least.

Arena Net, could you tell us what items we need at least a day in advance (if we do need items), and even though the mad king only comes every 2 hours, could you make it that he gives out the masks for 10 minutes when he comes? instead of it is given out for 5 seconds like at the dragon festival?

During the last halloween event, all you had to do to get a Pumpkin Crown was to be inside of the green circle of plants (are those plants??) when Mad King Thorn showed up. During his final minutes before he left, it would appear in your inventory.

The Dwayna/Grenth event didnt involve items either. It involved just being near the proper avatar to get either a Yule Hat or Grenth's Horns (depending on which avatar had more people next to them in that district)

The Dragon's Festival and the Day of Tengu however required you to get quest items.

There are no quests to get items for this event (atleast, none that I have found) so I would say that you don't need to have anything to get one..just be there

New collector just appeared in Lion's it takes those scalp thingies, only one required for a halloween item, but still only gives only the old items and not the new tonic.
