Design a Weapon Contest...results in!
I looked at the official site and didn't see anything, though the contest said announcements would be made on or before January 16...well...they might be running late, or I might be overlooking something. Either way, has anyone heard/read any news...? I'm kinda interested in seing what folks have done (such a creative bunch, GW fans are). If you entered the contest, good luck! And if you were one of the winners, let me be one of the first to say congrats!
*wrings hands greedily..."new weapons"...drools
Edit: Results from www.guildwars.com

Design-A-Weapon Winners Announced - 02 February 2006
After sorting through more than a thousand excellent entries, the Guild Wars Team has selected the winners and honorable mentions in the Design-A-Weapon Contest. The winning entries will serve as inspiration for team-created weapons that will be included in Guild Wars Factions upon release. The exciting news is that, due to the high quality of the entries, many of the honorable mentions will also be incorporated into Guild Wars Factions over the months following release. For more details, check out the Design-A-Weapon Page.

Maybe the new, cool looking weapons will show up in the Guild Wars Faction Preview .
Then probably would announce the winners from there...
The only thing I regret is not sending in an entry

I just posted a thread with this same topic and it disappeared... like 20 minutes ago... spooky. lol
Anyway, I'll throw my wondering into the void too. I'd like to know the results. I think Anet just has their hands full with the PvP weekend. Busy, busy.
Well good luck to all of us! :-) May the best warrior/ele/necro/mes/monk/ranger win. :-)

Is it just me, or does it seem like they have this habit of delaying things. Sorrows Furnace had what, a month delay? The 15k Tormentor's armour from what I can tell from reading various posts on here was delayed, and then the reaction wasn't exactly stellar. Just seems like if they can't stick to a set date they shouldn't jerk their fans around. I know they get a lot of requests, and Gaile does all she can do, but they just seem to have everything "in the works" that they can't commit to a schedule.
And... have "their" builds been brought out yet?
Anyway, can't wait to see the results. I know there are a few submissions from this site alone that should win for sure.

Found this response from Gaile Gray about the contest:
"We have not forgotten the contest, for sure. And yes, we got a ton (tonne, mucho, massive quantities!) of entries, and many of very high caliber. But with the announcement of the release of Guild Wars and all the work being dedicated to the upcoming event (yay events -- I'm so excited!) I plumb forgot that we had mentioned today as announcement day. Sorry!
Please forgive us the tardiness. I want the artists to have a good bit of time to see the images, make a good appraisal, discuss, enjoy the CRT offered baked goods (we always have a treat during judging -- makes it even more fun!) and so forth. With that in mind, we will be sitting down to sort through the art this week, and will hold final judging next week. We are pretty sure we can make the announcement within the next two weeks.
I know it's sort of agonizing to have to wait! Again, we're sorry about that wait, but we love what you sent, and you'll love what you see when the time comes."

Although the weapons themselves won't be anything different I am looking to see what skins people come up with. Should be interesting.

Well I am a weapon modeler and designer for RPG games I get into that can be modded
I did want to enter the contest with several entries. However, no email entries were allowed and my printer was on the fritz
Besides, there were no prizes. And saying to people "hey yo I made that weapon you have" will result in a reply of "pffft, go away loser" in the game.
I saw no real reward for doing the job of lazy NCSoft or ArenaNet workers

What with going chistmas, skiing and exams, I just never got round to printing this on good paper and posting it...so here's one I made earlier
It's from a full set, and I like to call this one a fractured shield:

Mmmh how did you ever get a job with that mentality. I considered it a privilege to have a chance to step into the concept art world, and furthermore contribute to what I consider a landmark in the fusion of art and gaming which is Guildwars. When I heard about the contest I submitted no less than 12 concepts that I printed at a print-shop. Seeking reward for a non-mandatory creative concept with absolutely no restrictions or boundaries as to the art direction in my mind doesn't make sense. I was thrilled to have this opportunity.
^Just my opinion, don't flame please.

When you help with game mods, its the same difference. Though with a successfull mod, you do get gratitude from people.
Being chosen in this and then trying to explain someone that you won the contest and made that weapon he is holding in the game and being given the finger
That's the entire point

I thought it was for personal satisfaction. I could give a flying squirrels tail whether some 14 yr old in game cares if I designed a weapon or not. I didn`t submit for them, it was for my own enjoyment whether there`s a price tag on it or not.
And MacD, very nice shield. I`d like to see the other pieces of the set.
