As a new site we're bound to have some errors. Post them here if you find them so they can get taken care of.

If you spot a broken image within the forum, could you copy and paste their url in this thread? The site itself has broken images, but forget about those :)

Also, if you find any broken links in the CMS (that's the main site part of things) post them here, too.

The only image with is consistently broken - and non-existant - is the 'you have posted in this thread AND there are new posts in this thread'. It doesn't have an image assigned. I'll get you a screenie next time it happens.

Is the main site meant to be viewable yet? I'm still seeing the 'coming soon' logo.

//edit:

if I use a non-targeted address (http://www.guildwarsguru.com) I get the 'coming soon' page. If I use the banner at the top of the page that includes index.php in the link, I get the site proper.

//edit2: Shoulda checked it ... F5 fixed the problem ;). Too used to my home system where I didn't need to because I had the browser set to auto-check for updates...

Follow-up on Aladdar's comment, I was just looking for something to mark one subforum read. Perhaps I'm blind too, but I didn't find anything to mark a specific forum read... it's all or nothing. Possible to toss in a mark [subforum] as read link within forums?

The pop-up menu DIVs which appear when you click some "links", such as a user's name, don't seem to appear in the right spot. They seem to appear 200px or so lower (I'm at 1600x1200 BTW) than where they should be.

On these same menus, the mouseover color for the text is really hard to read because it's practically the same color as it's background, which should be fixed.

Both these problems seemed to occur in both latest IE and Firefox.

edit: for the main page now, if you are on the archives page, the big image that's always centered at the top overlaps the navagation links at the top left corner of the page. Might be the case with some other pages too.

Sausaletus Rex
Feb 10, 2005, 03:34 PM
Lamaros, Ensign's fixed the error. It was a typo as the numbers in the example were the correct 50AL rather than 74AL. Nice eyes.

The pop-up menu DIVs...

That's a known problem but we've been unable to fix it just yet (And by "we" I mean people besides me because I'd have no idea how to do it). The mouseover color is a good point, though, we'll have to see about changing that to match the darker mouseover for most over links.

for the main page now, if you are on the archives page, the big image that's always centered at the top overlaps the navagation links at the top left corner of the page. Might be the case with some other pages too.

That was a problem before launch (To see it, turn up your text size *really* high and look at what happens to the links on the left, that's the way it was for all the links up there previously). I'm not sure why the correction missed the Archive page but it seems to be the only one I've found but it'll be fixed.

Not sure if it really is an error but do not all professions start out with 20 energy base and then for the casters, the armour adds energy to that base of 20? Since the armours of the casters add 10 energy, i do not see where the extra 3 is coming from. If that is so, should not the initial energy of the casters be 30 instead of 33? Also the max energy as listed there i assume is using a focus in the off-hand? So the max possible focus is a +9? I have heard people mention +12 foci found? The guide makes more sense if i assume that the 33 is a typo and is meant to be 30, i can't understand how 33 comes about, anyone?

The guide in question:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content/base-profession-statistics-id1086.php

Sausaletus Rex
Feb 12, 2005, 11:26 AM
Error in base profession stat guide?

The +3 is from a starting focus. Those give you +3 and are readily available once you start adventuring and what else is a caster going to carry, a shield (Actually that's not a bad idea, carry a shield to swap with in case you get swarmed by mobs, at lower levels those extra points of AL can go a long way, especially when you only have 5 to start with...)? That means a caster would have a total +13 to their energy from all their items, hence 33 energy. And, as attributes rise characters can meet the requirements on the better foci which, as of last BWE top out at +12, giving any caster a total +22 bonus to their energy for a base of 42 en.

trialist
Feb 12, 2005, 11:34 AM
Oh i see, thanks for clearing that up. Got confused since i saw the warrior and ranger at their base energy and didn't think that the 3 extra energy for the casters might have been from a focus.

Luggage
Feb 12, 2005, 12:09 PM
And the 4 E extra from ascetics and scars?

Sausaletus Rex
Feb 12, 2005, 12:21 PM
You'll note at the bottom it says "Based on most beneficial weapon" it should probably read "most beneficial equipment". While a Nec or Monk could indeed get an extra +5 energy from their armor, for a base of 47, the armor it takes to do so is far from the most beneficial.

In other words, scars and tattoos suck so THX didn't bother with them.

You could filter the skills mentioned in posts to the right page automaticly with very little work?

just a couple bugs I noticed this weekend.

1. the ai got stupid sometimes, and some creatures wouldn't fight unless you walked right next to them, others wouldn't fight at all.

2. I noticed that some of prince rurik's lines didn't tell you it was prince rurik talking in the cinematics.

3. my mesmer bought new pants and they looked purple until he changed districts and bought a dye to change them and then realized they were really black.

4. the bonus quest in... I think the third mission... doesn't register when you do it. and yes, I really did it. I talked to the chick, I sat there and waited for the flame wielders to pass and go to the flame temple door thing, killed them all, and then went up and killed all the dudes that were at the temple and never got any recognition or, more importantly, exp that said I had done the bonus quest.

5. my name disappeared in guild chat for a while near the end of the beta.

6. there's still numbers in parentheses next to peoples' names sometimes when they party up.

and I think that's it.

Maybe it's just my computer, but if you click on the little negative box where all of the posting rules are at and minimize it, a "+" sign should show up, but my browser just displayed the "X" when a picture didn't load/wasn't available.

It seems that the URL for that image keeps changing with each thread, otherwise I'd copy it for you...

just a couple bugs I noticed this weekend.

Hurm. This thread is for bug reports dealing with *this* site. We've only been live since the beginning of the month and this thread was established for people to relate to us the various problems and errors that come with a brand new website. It's most definitly not for in-game bug reports. There's /bug for that or the BWE Suggestions (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253) thread if you forgot to mention something while you had the chance. While ANet certainly watches fansites and their forums and pretty much the whole staff here are playtesters of the game we're not an official part of ANet and we can't do anything more than relate your issues to them which you can do yourseelf anyway.

One of your more older guides needs an update:

Attribute Point Distribution (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content/attribute-point-distribution-id270.php)

In the 3rd paragraph it mentions that point gain is set at 10 skill points per lvl, but I am 90% certain that currently this is now 5 skill points per lvl, with a 100 skill points bonus upon reaching ascension.

Ummm.. actually that says 10 Attribute pts per level....and as of last beta was still correct..i made 8 levels..had 80 points to spend on attributes.

Skill points are a whole different matter.

When I've been clicking on peoples names next to their posts to check out their profiles, I've noticed that, if the post is small and there's another post right beneath it, that the options which pop up for the person I actually clicked on change to the persons post right below them if I scroll down to click on any of the options. I've had to come in from the right side of the screen and make sure I don't get in the caption box where the name is held, otherwise the options change. I don't think I explained this well, but hopefully you get the point.

I frequently get "page cannot be displayed" when trying to load the forums or when trying to reply sometimes. I can hit refresh 4 or 5 times and finally on the last try it will load the page. I went to a duplicate thread and noticed it was a duplicate right away and so clicked the "report bad post icon" and report it...well i am waiting for the admin scold because the thread was already closed! hahaha

Not sure if this is a bug but maybe have the report bad post button disappear when the thread is closed? God I feel bad cause it's redundant to have someone look at it again, and of course I feel very stupid. I should have noticed the "closed" button. Along these lines though maybe move the "closed" button as it is in the same place as "post thread." A number of times I went to a closed thread not realizing it because there is no obvious difference to the "closed" button. Maybe make it a different color so it's more obvious the thread is closed? Maybe make it a different shape?

Oh well anyway, thanks and have a good day.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content/pre-searing-ascalon-id1264.php

It says you get dual shot and ignite shot from sir Bertan or something. You get them from aiden, hes at the bottom of the map where all those rivers are and where is some settlement. You have to do a quest where you kill all these giant aloes and they drop aloe roots then you give him some (not sure how many I did the quest before I had it).

I think he gives you the skills FOR the quest not upon completion.

In some cases, when I request a skill listing ordered by Attribute and then Energy Cost, the skills from one of the attributes lines are absent. For example, performing the request for a Warrior/Elementalist or an Elementalist/Warrior fails to return skills in the Earth Magic line. Performing the request for a Warrior/Monk or a Monk/Warrior fails to return skills in the Healing Prayers line. However, performing the request for a combination of Elementalist and Monk successfully returns all the skills. I have not gone through all the combinations, but my first thought is that it has to do with a Warrior having 6 skill areas (Axe, Hammer, Strength, Swordsmanship, Strength, Tactics, and General) while no other class has more than 5.

Whenever Droknar's Forge is mentioned, Roknar's Forge is said instead. For example, under the skill trainers page, "Bartoch (Roknar's Forge)" is said instead of Droknar's Forge. I don't think there is a Roknar's Forge in addition to a Droknar's Forge, but even if there is, Bartoch is found in Droknar's Forge selling all the skills mentioned. All over the site, Roknar's Forge is said instead of Droknar's.

I read through this and saw that several people have reported the restore boxes on the "rules" tab and the "current users viewing" tab disappear after clicking minimize, and as I am typing this, I get that fun little Ghosting of what is currently in this box when I move my cursor over the Extened Buttons in the Extended Post features menu; the stuff is only up for a millisecond but it reminds me of the seizure causing robot cartoon from Japan.

I am using the current FireFox and this minimize with no restore has been bugging me for weeks. I logged in and out to try and restore the settings and refreshed the page numerous times to no effect. The next thing I will try will be completely clearing all my cookies, so I hope that will work.

Edit: Just cleared my cookies and cache. This restored the setting just for anyone else having the same problem and looking for a quick fix.

About the "vbmenu_popup" thing that appears in the wrong place when using Firefox, it seems to only happen when the browser window is "too wide". By decreasing the size of the window the popup appears how it should.

You should be able to fix this by maybe putting an invisible element beside the popup to force it across.

Just an idea.

When you click the button to minimize the list that shows up at the bottom of the page right under Current Active Members (were all the names are) the button dissapears and you can't get it back.

The problem is that the button dissepears upon clicking it. I think that this is because what the button does is it is coded to change the display inside the box to this "display:none;" then the button isn't displayed either so you can't change it back.

This also happens with the GWGuru statistics box at the right below.

sorry if I sound snotty.

Best way to get MCS is do an auction say GOLDLY GOLDY and then bump it a few times an min to get his attention. Only kidding, I'm one of the biggest scolders of that practice.

I have been having a lot of problems with the interactive buttons on the site lately. this is a recent development that seems to need addressing. the insert hyperlink button and insert image button do not work right. it just seems to click and never does anything, jsut says error on page in the bottom. I have been making my post scripts the old fashioned way recently with manually typing the php code for links and img inserts in the [] brackets. but it would be nice to see the buttons work correctly again...

thanks...

I receive the following error no matter what link I click. I rebooted, reconnected and it stopped as of now, but each morning I encounter it anew for what seems like 2 hours, then it stops again.

I am on a dialup connection away form home, where at home I have cable. It happens to me at home as well, but is more pronounced on the dial up connection.

It does not happen to me anywhere else on the net...

SOT, i feel your pain too. keep getting,

"There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience."

it's driving me to insanity
pressing the refresh button a few times usually fixes the problem but this thing occurs randomly. one minute you're reading something, click on something, bam! this error appears.

I get that occasionally as well. It seems to be tied to the number of viewers on site. Whenever I've gotten that there are usually a ton of members online. Also, my personal suspicion is that it's more tied to the new "color" animated ads that I REALLY hate. :( I'll take the nice tan ads any day. ;)

It just happened to me again, this time on my cable connection at my home. This is indeed an odd message. The last time it happened to me elsewhere, it was my own forums, and it was a problem with the mySQL database installation, which after fixing, the bug vanished.

Might wanna check that :)

About the laggy behavior of the Forums in Firefox, it happened to me in version 1.0.4. Menu borders dissapeared, mouse wheel not working, Firefox getting 99% of the system resources, etc.

The addition form isn't working for me. The Guild Leader name is stuck on "Anonymous" and I can't change it (yes I'm logged in too) and it's been like that for a while. I PMed a Forum Leader on 10/13 but haven't gotten a response so I'm posting this here.

I went ahead and just filled it out anyways today and got redirected to a Blank Page and received no confirmation email either. I tried to resubmit it and got the same results. No error messages either.

Can anyone help me out getting the Guild listed?

Thanks in advance :)

~ Lysander Freeman, Guild Leader, Starfleet Intelligence Guild [SFIG]

p.s. here's what I was trying to submit:
__________________________________________________

Guild Leader: It's stuck on "Anonymous" - name is Lysander Freeman
Guild Name: Starfleet Intelligence Guild
Guild Tag: SFIG
Contact Email: lysander.freeman@comcast.net
Guild Website: http://sficlan.net/sficlan/SFIG/index.htm
Description:

40+ member PvE/PvP/GvG Guild with Active Leadership, Encourages Good Sportsmanship and Behavior.

The Starfleet Intelligence Guild originated as a PvE based Guild and has grown to encompass both PvE as well as PvP and GvG. Several Officers are on hand to assist members in both the PvE and PvP. Guild Leadership is active both ingame as well as in the Forums to ensure that members have a good time and to prevent any issues that may arise when you get 40+ people together with 40 different backgrounds.

The SFIG membership includes people from 14 years old to 40-something years old and occupations range from school students to business professionals.

We have a TS server and online Forums. We meet three times a week for regular GvG/PvP sessions and are in the process of assigning leaders for special teams to get more people active in the Tomb of Primevil Kings and GvG.

Requirements:

Minimum Age Requirement: 14 years old

No Level or Skill Requirements - we welcome both veterans as well as people who just purchased the game.

Guild Code: We do have a Guild Code with certain rules, such as no foul language and no fighting either between members or between members and other players. We encourage good sportsmanship. While we do not have a zero-tolerance policy, repeat violations may result in removal from the Guild at the Leadership's descretion.

Multi-Clan Policy: As a Division of the Starfleet Intelligence Online Gaming Clan, we do have a multi-clan policy that new recruits need to be aware of.

Activity: We expect members to be active either ingame or on the Forums at least once a week. We understand that Real Life Happens and not everyone can live glued to their PC. After more than a week of absence you may be notified via email/MSN/whatever contact method you have provided in the Forums. If a player has been inactive for three or four weeks they will be removed from the Guild. In cases where the member has gone on an extended leave, like a two month backpacking trip for example, they will still be removed from the roster to keep it current but they will be reinvited once they return.

Recruiting: Yes
Roleplaying: No
Voice Chat: Yes
Play Style: PvE & PvP
Age Requirement: 14
Guild Motto: none
Guild Logo: none
Delete Guild: I'm trying to add the Guild not Delete

The only Search that is broken is the Board search at the bottom of a specific board. Advanced Search at the top of the page and below the Board Search box works just fine.

Thanks for the info. I must say I really liked being able to come to the forum and just browsing thru new posts as there are just too many boards to hunt thru manually. Now I visit 2-3 boards and leave.

Also, don't be quick to close a post because someone didn't search as with only 25 results they may well not find what they were looking for.

For the record:
in·ane (ĭn-ān') pronunciation
adj., -an·er, -an·est.
One that lacks sense or substance: interrupting with inane comments; angry with my inane roommate.

So it's correct the inane :)

Hi. I'm sorry, I'm in a rush, so don't have time to read through all four pages. Someone may have mentioned these already, so please disregard my post if you area already aware of them.

I'm having two bugs in the new auction section. Firstly, it will not remember my login. I select remember me every single time I log in out of habit and it never remembers. Before you ask, no, I do not have cookies disabled or anything like that. I should, but, I got sick of having to deal with non-functioning or partially broken sites or having to physically choose whether or not to accept each and every single one of the thousands of cookies that I have to go through. Cookies are 100% enabled even with invalid addresses and such, and are accepted from third parties because a few sites still broke even if I disabled that.

I'm thinking the cookie problem may be browser related. I think I've had troubles with a forum once not remembering my login simply because I was using Opera. They used some kind of setting that expected to see certain browser IDs and when they didn't get it they failed to function or something. Mind you, I haven't had that problem again until the auction section of this site. I might add that the forums here remember my seperate login without a hitch.

Also, I've noticed the system allows duplications of many things. I guess if you accidentally double click or something. For example, I made the mistake of hitting back after modifying an auction to modify a bit more (it keeps messing me up that even if I put in no HTML code I still have to put in the break tags to put text on seperate lines) and it made a duplicate of my auction. Right down to the part where it had just under 11 hours left. Also, one person gave me feedback and I'm guessing they double clicked submit or something because I have a duplicate of their feedback, giving me two points when, to be honest, I really should only have one. I'd say please take your time fixing that one, but, realistically speaking, some people out there may end up receiving a duplicate of a negative value (I plan to never receive even a first one, but, you never know with some people.)

I think using some kind of unique ID code on things that could cause duplicates would solve this problem. For example, when modifying the auction, all you have to do is include a check for the auction ID tag. If the browser shows the same tag, then the user didn't intend to create a new auction but obviously to edit the old one. Same general idea goes for user reviews. I'm thinking you could just simply take the user id of the user who's posting the review, and then stick the auction ID tag of the auction they are reviewing from at the end. Presto, you have a unique ID specific to that one review.

EDIT: Oops, I forgot before, but, most importantly of all, there are some serious annoyances. Such as when attempting to edit your auction. Several fields loose their values to incorrect ones, and the description field actually dissapears. Nearly every edit requires TWO edits because the description dissapears and you have to fix it. The bid increment field blanks, and the reserve and buy now prices loose all but the first digit (changing the entire SCALE of the auction. Soemone's at risk of selling some uber-expensive item for, say 1g because of this sort of thing if someone pounces fast enough to catch such a bug before the seller could.)

BTW, the forum just forgot my login too. Could be the cookies are set to expire relatively quickly? I don't know what they are set to so couldn't say. It seems to remember me for a while, so that may not be a bug, just checking. Oh, and the auction pages aren't forgetting me due to expired cookies because it's basically session only requiring me to log in every single new session whether or not it's been any amount of time (once I closed that tab, realized I forgot something, opened a new one, and found I had to log back in during the two seconds it took me to do that.)

Minor bugs aside, I must say that this whole ebay-style auction thing is a very neat idea and an invaluable tool -- especially in the long run once it builds up enough users for us all to buy and sell more easily. Thank you for giving us such a tool.

OK, so I went from getting a ton of emails on the same sale to getting none on a sale! I sold a cane to a person named jimmeh but that is all I know, no player details so I can't even add him to my friends list in order to try to contact him. Is there any way for me to get this info? Well, all of the emails must have been resent (thank you). I did get it this time, however, the name he gave does not exist in the game! I know I ran across a post here somewhere about people faking buying and selling...just a heads up, watch out for jimmeh (jimmeh the monk).

Nazo

Don't forget the possibility of typos or deleted characters. For example, when I signed up, I had one character only. Later I bought an item and by then I had deleted that one and made a new one, but, I forgot to update my profile. Thus the seller was unable to find me for a day or two. Well, you can always try contacting them via e-mail, but, I find that a lot of legitimate people even don't respond to some of my e-mails. Anyway, just don't forget the possibility of a legitimate mistake before assuming the worst. There are indeed people who fake buying or selling or who bid on items they can't afford (or even bid on something they can, but, then bid on something else, thus no longer being able to afford the first.)

I tend to run Firefox for my primary browser. only with GWGuru, sometimes Firefox crashes and I recieve the following message: "Shockwave pluggin performened an illegal operation. Firefox needs to close." i don;t know if this is browser instability with something in Guru or if this is something in Gurur messing with the browser, but its getting a little annoying when I watch one of my replies (one of my longer winded replies) disappear with my browser.

Anyone heard of this yet? If not it needs addressing. ty:)
