Read all the threads on sigs here and understand the SQL server load issue.
I personally just have a text signature. and have had it on php boards identical to this one. And on some, it was text only, pics disabled.
I dont think text sigs limited to say, 250chr would kill the servers, as its only bytes of data.

Its a great idea but you know there WILL be idiots who abuse their signature, by offensive language and such.

There are many reasons. Server load would be a reason. Also, every forum I've visited there is always people who abuse this. They can also be offensive even if we limited it with multi-colored text. Everyone, you have an Avatar where you can express yourself (in a small space I understand that) but it's there. You also can have your guild information and in game names in your profiles. Any information that a sig might contain... is all ready there and on display.
