View Full Version : William of Orange vs. William the Silent
William of Orange

Although it seems that both of us are the same person, we are in fact VERY different people, we just happen to know each other in real life.
But the question of the day is...
Based solely upon our names (which, by the way, are our names in Guild Wars), who do you think would win in a fight to the death?
1) William of Orange
or...
2) William the Silent?

Oh for sure me! William the Silent implies that I let actions speak louder than words, not like these hot shot athletes like Freddie Mitchell who are all talk but don't produce. Just beg for mercy ORANGE and I'll go easy on ya. :D

My vote went to William of Orange due to the history behind the name. William of Orange won the English, Scottish, and Irish Crowns during the Glorious Revolution.
After voting based on this I googled William the Silent and found out thats another name for WIlliam of Orange.
I conclude that you are both the same person and it would be really funny to see a person fight himself. :D

Well I'm glad someone actually took the time to look up Orange and my ruse. But I must bring up the contraire: :D
We are NOT the same person.
William of Orange is just a title passed on from generation to generation and William the Silent is one of those Williams (He's actually William I). The William of Orange you so humbly admire is William III, therefore we are NOT the same person.
How can you like William III better?
You say you like him because he had all three crowns, but William the Silent actually fought for something else besides self-indignant vanity: freedom of religion! William the Silent was the lone leader in northern Spain of the protestants during the Spanish Inquisition. He died a martyr after a brutal assassination by a fanatical bishop!
Now would you rather have a mirror-watching, money snatching oppressor or someone who was one of the first to fight for our common freedoms of today!?

Stop denying it W.t.S, and just accept the simple facts; we're the SAME person!! Don't try pulling your Goebbel-style propaganda on us now; we're better than that. You said yourself before, William the Silent is another name for William of Orange...

At one point in time we WERE the same person, but William the Silent was the one decent William of Orange. Therefore how can the best be defeated by the worst if the worst are supposedly equilibrant with the best though they are not as you see because the voters chose between us. When the voters chose between us they established that there are two different entities in battle. One is William I the Silent, and the other is some other William of Orange with no specs. The main person at fault is user William of Orange for having a name like King of England where no one knows who you really are unless it's convenient for you! (i.e. when it's William the Silent because he rox0rs! :p )

Based on all the facts that I have so far read... I don't care whats what and who is who and who did what! Did that make sense? Personally I just think that I could take you both on... then again, who am I kidding?! :D I ran my vote for W.t.S. Based on the words alone, not the crowns or glory, would you rather have a sneak-attack sort of name or a squishy-squashy name you can here before you can even see?
I'm just kidding of course! I really just closed my eyes and played "point the finger". As long as I have one of you to take on after the other has died (and has lost plenty of energy) I'm willing to take either!
That was a fun poll though! Honestly though... I'd much rather have either of you on my side rather than having you stick something in me that will take my last breath! :p

I specifically voted against William of Orange because of the history behind it, heh.

I know we were wondering this when you first posted that, but we just let it slide. What exactly is that supposed to mean though? Some clarification would be appreciated...
