View Full Version : COMPLETE list of all skills available through quests!
Tetris L
Jun 08, 2005, 02:33 AM
Since I started playing GW (only about 1 month ago) I've been looking in vain for a complete list of skill locations, including quests. Lists of skill trainers and elite skill bosses are available on many GW websites. But none has a complete list of skills that can be obtained through quests. Since I couldn't find one, I started compiling one myself. Here is the preliminary result:
List of Quests with Skill Reward (http://cleaned.beyondunreal.com/temp/GuildWars/GW_SkillRewardQuests.htm)
I believe the list of quests is complete, however, I'm unsure about the skill rewards in some cases. If you notice any errors in the table or you know about any quest with a skill reward that's not yet listed, or if you got any other kind of comment or feedback, please post in this thread or email me: TetrisL(at)gmx.ch

I don't mean to rip off somebody else's work. Let me make very clear that I did NOT gather the information in this tabel MYSELF by playing the game (for the most part). Instead I searched pieces of information on various GW webistes and forums. My part of the work was only to put the puzzle together all in one place.
Since I don't claim exclusive credits for the table, consequently it is free to use for everbody.
Credits go out too all the sources of information that I've used for compiling the table, first of all Cymmina, who had more than half the work already done:

http://www.gwonline.net (Forums, Quest Database, Skill Listing, Pre-Searing Quest List)

http://www.duranceoffate.com (Skill Listing)
Furthermore I'd like to thank all the people who posted valuable information on the matter on various threads on various forums. Among many others, let me mention especially: Cymmina, Eclair, FloridaFringe, ...

Inmense thanks! This way I can know which skills dont have to buy from skill trainers.
BTW, I only look for skill names, not the location since I find a lot of fun discovering quest skills

Very nice list of skills available from quests up to LA. The list isn't really complete as it doesn't have the skills for those quests found beyond LA, but still pretty good nonetheless. :)

I think you have given this list as much attention as Bush gives to his wife
in other words: look again*.
* not to Bush's wife. do not take the words out of context please, that's a horrible thought. :D

Bravo, L. Thanks, this is a very useful resource.

Oh yeah sorry, my fault. I thought the list was in order in terms of how far these quests are into the game. When I saw LA was last, I automatically assumed they only had data up to it. hehe Thanks again. :)

VERY nice work. I've been searching through a majority of sites but never could work long enough to get much done to be of any help to me or anybody else in that case. Hat's off to you, good job.

Very Nice, but to clarify for some of the newer users, skills obtained from quests are also all available from trainers, just nice to save the money and skill points. Elites are the only skills that MUST be obtained through questing or farming.
Not downplaying the guide though, I've already used it to get a few skills that I missed and would have had to therwise buy :)

In addition, skills through quests often get you them faster than you would if you only bought from trainers. Typically you can obtain quests for them one area earlier than the trainer (area being postsearing ascalon, northern shiverpeaks, lion's arch, jungle, desert). Plus you save skill points and gold, making all those capture signets cheaper. ;)

And the race is on to get a list of the skill rewards for the new quests. Yes, that's right folks, the new quests are skill quests (primary + secondary). Hope we can get this (great!) database up-to-date ASAP. :)

I got my hands on the Prima Official Game Guide and checked my list against their list. (Which was a pain in the rear, I might add, as the list in the guide is a total mess. Surprisingly, the guide lists the 3 new quests, even though it was released before the June 15 update.) Anyway ... I verified a number of things and will update my page tonight with the information that was posted in this thread and that I received by eMail over the last few days.

Not to be a pain, but to prove that I just totally like and care about the work you have made for all of us:)

Slightly off-topic, but your skill trainer list has Precision Shot, Tiger's Fury and Winnowng with Tengen in Port Sledge. They are actually in Droknar's Forge with Bartoch.

Well the strategy guide tells you if a skill is available from a quest. and it tells you were to get it from the vendor too for that matter... only thing it doesn't tell you is WHERE to get elites. It does tell you the boss to get it from though, so it should be easy to find then.
They have been adding quests and rewards however so it is a little dated... but the original ones are still valid.

Well the strategy guide tells you ...
And you assume EVERYBODY has the guide? It doesn't come with the game, you know. You gotta pay extra cash for it, and all that.
Plus ... have you had a look at their quest reward table? At least in the copy that *I* have that table is so messed up that you can't understand it unless you have a correct list to check it against.

Aegis is listed in there. So is Protective Bond.
Aegis is in Fisherman's Haven. Bond in Maguuma Stade.
It's not listed under quests, because you can't get it from a quest.
Not all skills (nor all non-elites) are available through quests.

I'd just like to know if at the end of the game there are any elites available through quests. I suspect not but after all the only thing I can do is fail at Thunderhead Keep,

Hi, very nice listing, helped me a lot.
Just want to point out that you missed the skill "Empathy" in Mesmer's Test quest in Pre-searing. Actually, the skills awarded for this quest should be Empathy and Ether Feast instead of Conjure Phantasm, Ether Feast.
Interestingly I found (maybe someone has already pointed out) that all the skills available though quests can be purchased from trainers in the next major city you will get to, e.g. ascalon trainer has all the skills available in pre-searing quests and lions arch trainer has all the skills available through quests in northern shiverpeak. And you can get all the trainer skills available in major cities through quests in previous region with only ONE exception as far as I know, monk skill Guardian. You can purchase Guardian in Ascalon but cannot get through any quest in pre-searing. Those skills available from trainers in small towns are the ones you have to purchase or capture from a boss. And I have a theory that you can capture almost all of these skills (non-elite) from different bosses, although I have not tested it. This way you can save half of the price of purchasing skills, but maybe not worth the effort to kill so many bosses so many times. :)
JoDiamonds
Aug 08, 2005, 03:03 PM
Ugh. It's definitely not worth the effort of finding all the bosses.
The best reasons to capture from a boss are (1) It's elite, so there's no other way or (2) to get it earlier than you can otherwise. It's often the case that a boss will be using a skill before you reach the point where a quest or trainer will give it to you. More to the point, some of the small cities you never have to visit are the only non-boss methods of finding these skills. The bosses are sometimes on the main path, so you can get these skills even if you don't know where the cities are.
