Thanks Synthos, I added the pets to the list. I do believe there is a spider pet named Black Widow, but I was unable to identify the region. Actually, now I remember, Cain has one, I'll ask him about it.

Unless they changed it, Black Bears in Pre Searing are mobs not charm-able creatures. A normal pet creature won't attack unless you attack it first..
Devil's Dictionary
May 14, 2005, 03:32 PM
They are charmable creatures with the right skill combination. Pre-Sear wolves are hostile too yet perfectly charmable.
I have seen a non-hostile Black Bear in Lornar's Pass.

Bears in pre-searing are charmable...you need a decent Beast Mastery attribute to stand a chance.
Elder Black Widows are in the Underworld.
There are warthogs in Maguuma and Kryta.

You can charm a moss spider in pre-searing in the green hills country. When i got there instead of red, they were green meaning i could charm them. I still like my wolf though, much better looking and does a lot of damage and tanks for me.

I know the bears are great with their maul skill, but I love my stalker. I named her Fluffy.
Seriously, I've been playing mmorpg's for 6 years now and always hated playing pet classes. I don't know what it is about this ranger I'm playing now and why she's different with her little kitty over all those other games and their pet classes that I didn't like, but I love this ranger and her Fluffy.

Thanks for all of the information! But what I need now is all of the locations of the pets. :(
I also updated the locations of pets in Seared Ascalon and Kryta, however I'm still certain I'm missing out on a bunch of juicy information.

No you can't. It says "that creature is not an animal" when you try to charm one - it doesn't matter if the creature is hostile or not for charming, it's whether the creature is an "animal". Moss spiders are clearly vegetables.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can charm Black Bears in Wizard's Folly anymore. Maybe you can but I was unable to get mine charmed; they use a Charm-interrupt skill, which seems to be almost instant, that always interrupts and knocks you down, though it does no damage. I wasn't able to circumvent that. If you can do it I would love to know how.
EDIT: I see above that it is suggest you use a Knockdown warrior. I'll try that and see what happens.

the first place you can charm a bear is south of becons pearch in lomars pass at the far southern end of the zone before the cave area. I believe this area is considered part of the Northern Shiverpeaks.

There is some false information here:
1) The moss spider can not be tamed in pre-searing (I have tried)
2) The wolf is not hard to capture (opinion)
3) The bears in pre-searing are not possible to tame.

Don't meant to be a flame, but I have 1 really puzzling question to ask. When I tried to charm the Moss Spider in Pre-Sear, it says: It is not an animal. ANd I have seen people charm Black Widow. Is Black Widow an animal?? If spiders are animals, why can't we charm moss spiders as well??

you can't charm spiders in pre-searing. i know that for sure, their not animals. period. and i still doubt you can charm bears.
the warthog's (i supose you mean the prize-winning hog's?) aren't charmable.. i don't remember why their not, i just remember i couldn't do it

I never tried to charm the prize winning hogs, but there are a couple warthogs running around Pre Sear. I found mine near Althea around the slope leading to the pond that the bull was in. There was one other location that had a couple wandering around, just can't remember where.

you can charm Warthogs Presearing
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10019&page=1&pp
go out the ascalon gate, turn slightly to the right, and run towards the bull.
you will see 1 or 2 possibilities
1- there will be 2 striders
2- there will be 1 strider, then between him and the lake will be a hog you can charm
great info about pets that has not been posted in this thread (yet)

This is what it states in the Guide
Animal Lvl Dmg Armor
Strider 1 Prc 3-5 AC 3
Wolf 2 Sla 4-6 AC 6
Warthog 2 Blunt 4-6 AC 6
Moa Bird 3 Sla 5-8 AC 9
Melandrus Stalker 5 Sla 6-10 AC15
Snow Wolf 5 Sla 6-10 AC15
Lynx 5 Sla 6-10 AC15
Warthog 5 Blunt 6-10 AC15
Dune Lizard 5 Prc 6-10 AC15
Black Bear 5 Sla 6-10 AC15
Elder Black Widow 20 Prc 17-29 AC60
So clearly the black widow is better

So clearly the black widow is better
At their starting levels, of course the black widow is better, but what about when they achieve the same level?
Look at the warthog... At Lvl 2 it does Blunt 4-6 and has an AC of 6. But at Lvl 5 the damage increases to Blunt 6-10 and AC15. Just from this alone you can figure out that their stat's increase as they level.
If you need more, then common sense dictates that if their stats did not increase, a level 20 Strider would deal no damage to a lvl 20 mob and would probably die from one hit if it's AC stayed at 3
Other wise, I find it very odd that they all do the same damage and AC at level 5, contriary(sorry for spelling) to what everyone has observed and experienced.
If the Guide was the Strategy guide that can be found on the shelves, there are a couple of posts discussing it's errors, and mostly because it's old data that has changed with beta's and the updates since launch.

im confident that all pets at level 20 have AC 60
how pets vary is damage type / attack speed / damage

It will be nice when the information on pets gets compiled, and we know the differences. I assume they are all the pretty much the same though, but I wonder if there are HP differences or elemental immunities. I have heard this said before, and I think it is something that should come in an update. Is being able to Dye your animal. I presonally would love to have a yellow Moa Bird. Although I can see PETA having a problem with it, being cruelty to animals or something like that.

The only 2 different pets i've had have been a stalker and a wolf that i got in pre-searing. I mostly play with my w/mo but just recently i was doing the "gates of kryta" mission. i think that's it... anyway, the bonus there involves finding a warthog named "Oink" of all things, and taking it back to its owner so that you can be given the bonus mission. anyway, while oink is with u, he fights mobs and from what i saw, at lvl 8, he was doing some decent damage. Enough so that i even thought bout going back to charm it, but figured it wouldnt work since its part of a mission like the prize winners or the rogue bull. i think i'm gonna start my ranger over and get a warthog

Oink is an NPC, he's more powerful than any charmable animal in the game and invincible. Warthogs can't be as strong as him, but they are still the coolest pet.
You can't charm Oink, and the only charmable Warthogs that I know of are well past the mission where you encounter him.

You can charm warthogs in presearing. One roams near the bull. The others are on the other side of the wall where you need 2 people to rescue the ranger there. (that's where I charmed mine.)

When you leave Ascalon City turn right outside of the gate. Head up to the actor's theater (it will be on your right). Head west at that point and you will find the bull and the little pond he is standing in.

OK, there are two types of blackbears, one in presearing and one in postsearing.
The one presearing is hard to capture because it has that interrupt and it also has a maul skill. Now i noticed that the one in postsearing has no such skills, and is easy to capture. My question is, are the two bears the same statistically, and does the postsearing blackbear use maul in battle?
