I just had what might be a cool idea for a search function for this forum.
Lets say, Poster X, is posting in Forum Y. He's not only posting, but he's posting a new topic.
When Poster X posts his new topic in Forum Y, after he presses the post button, but before the topic is posted, Forum Y automatically searches itself, for the words contained in the topic title.
It then procedes to provide a list of simularly named topics, or topics with those words in it.
If these topics do not match what Person X wants to talk/ask about, person X may click continue, and post the topic. Hense, Person X, has no excuse for posting a duplicate topic.
Ofcourse, person X could also get mighty annoyed at this idea.
