Melee Ranger?

I'm brand new to GW...never played it once. I just started a trial today and was interested in playing some sort of Ranger...melee if feasible?

Here's the thing...I'm very busy IRL so I'd like to pop on and be fairly successful soloing in PvE and PvP. I understand I can't take everything down by myself...I just don't want to be depending on someone else.

I stubbled accross something called a Bunner Thumper build? Pet and hammer, etc? Is this still viable?

Any suggestions on classes (pri and sec) and builds would be much appreciated. It doesn't HAVE to be a ranger and/or melee...it's just a preference. I really don't know what I'm doing...

No asking for builds, but you done some research. My favorite and possibly most deadly, Escape Scythe. Spam skills and stances.

Personally I(as a ranger) very much enjoy playing as a Glass Spiker. Not really solo, and it's much better in PvE, but if it's PvE you're looking for, this build has to be one of the top 3 for ranger.

if u did a ranger u have to interupt stuff if not is not funny enough xd

If you are looking to play melee, I would recommend creating either a Warrior, Assassin, or Dervish. I assume you wish to play a Thumper, but keep in mind, it is only a 'fun' build in low-level PvP. You can also choose to play as an Escape Scythe, a very resiliant build.

However, I would recommend making good use of your profession and interrupting or pressuring the crap out of monks.

I think you'll find most people play solo with heroes/hench these days for general PvE. I suggest you check out the Heroes & AI section of the forum for some of the commonly used team builds. Also PvXwiki ("http://www.pvxwiki.com) is a great collaboration of builds, and I'm sure you will find the Bunny Thumper build there, along with discussion and variations on the talk page.
