If there are three spellcasters in a cluster, and i shoot choking gas at one of them, do they all get interrupted at once?
How long does the gas linger on foes, does it interrupt any more than the initial hit?

the range is adjacent (http://www.wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Adjacent#Adjacent) so as long as they are within that "cluster" than it will interupt them all.
The interupt is "at impact" only although it will interupt regardless of the arrow hitting or not (so if your blind or the target blocks for example, you'll still interupt). IF I remember correctly, this also cancels other interupt skills (or I'd imagine it's better to say that choking gas interupts first) so using something like [distracting shot] won't gain the benefit of the skill description (so you won't get a 20sec adder to a skill interupt).
Since you can't maintain the prep indefintely, they often suggest to run this with [practiced stance] but then you're left to the cycle speed of the bow you choose (or the activation time of other skills). [Quick shot] also use to work well with this skill back in the day but then you have down time of the prep.
hope this helps

Thanks!
So the gas immediately spreads as soon as it hits? And it does only interrupt that one time it hits?
I'm asking because when i used it on a mesmer, he seemed to get interrupted even when i didn't hit with arrows. His spells just was interrupted. Maybe someone else interrupted him and i didn't see it.
Used with a shortbow, practiced stance and IAS-skills, it is very effective...

[Choking Gas][Practiced Stance][Flurry]
Combined with a short bow is rather effective.
I got my r1 in HA as a Choking Gas Ranger, then along came [Song of Concentration] and I was out of a job. Of course Song had nothing to do with Choking Gas, it simply prevented the other half of the bar from being effective, which was [Seeking Arrows][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot]
Alas, the Ghostly Capped the Altar and all was lost.
Though as it's always been said, "Timed Interupts > Random Interupts"

I really do believe more in random interrupts in general.. you might interrupt spells that take under a second to cast b\c the caster don't know when the next arrow strike. In any case you will decrease the effectiveness of the caster..
The ultimate interrupt is knock down, but relying on spike traps isn't the best option.. right?

b\c the caster don't know when the next arrow strike.
as much as I'd like to believe that, the more experienced/seasoned folks seem to recoginze the cycle time interupts and cast in between (granted you can cycle your IAS. There are also the skills w/ cast times but again you lose their effect therefore are you really gaining anything?)

If you are referring to the skills that have cast times over a second\one and a half, that you could interrupt them with timed interrupts instead - If you use random interrupts, you would interrupt those skills anyway. What you gain by doing that is time to keep calm in combat ^^ by not having to be on your tip-toes at all times.

Being "on your tip-toes at all times" means what? Staying attentive? If you're straining to stay alert and pay attention, you're either too tired or too stressed to be playing in the first place... go take a nap and come back to the keyboard when you're able to fully focus.

.......
I thought being on your toes and focusing was the same thing .. ? What i mean is looking for your opponent to cast a skill and how long it will take to cast it (so you can interrupt it or not) - and ofc learn the targets pattern

Keeping calm during combat does not happen when you don't have to stay on your toes. You should be calm and on your toes at the same time, regardless. Otherwise, as I said before, you are either too tired or too stressed to be playing.

On your toes and calm - That's what i call [Ineptitude] - or it can be [Peace and harmony]

=/
Good rangers can recognize what skills they can and can't interrupt by the flash of the skill icon (and some knowledge of what the enemy is likely to be running). That's why rangers in high level PvP don't use Choking Gas, opting for the timed interrupts: they're more effective when you know how to use them.
And, yes, you can be both focused and calm.

I just want to get down to the essence of things.

again, it's not really "random". In fact it's a pattern. Unless you cycle the IAS or use skills w/ cast time, you will have a consistant fire rate from the bow less the distance to the target. If the player is decent, they are going to pick you out of the crowd and cast between arrows, prepping, target switching etc.
As also indicated above, you should be actively anticepating patterns or bars etc so choking is not the best way to go.

Okay - So if you're up against decent players, they will notice the patterns\prepping\arrow cykle.. =) Thanks!
