View Full Version : Ranger Farming?

This might be a bit stupid for a first post, and I might get flamed, but I really need a farming build for my ranger. I've been playing him now for about a month, and I had played him previously about a year ago, and I just capped barrage.
I've been reading lots of guides on how to ranger farm as its my main character, most of it relies on live vicariously and vigorous spirit, or trapping, but after trying this I realised i'm either really bad or its been nerfed.
So I guess what I'm saying is I could do with a current prophecies solo ranger farming build with any secondary profession. I know that rangers suck at farming compared to many other professions, but I only have a level 11 monk, which is no fun to play and so will take a long while to reach level 20 and I don't have enough money for superior runes for a 55 monk.
So, any suggestions?

Instead of having us look for Proph specific builds for you (if we found any then you didn't search hard enough) post a build with only 1 or 2 non Proph skills and see if we can adapt it. Also, if you're just bad at farming we can't really help you with that, a build is a build.

If you have EOTN (Fixed\edited), i have a tip for you.
You can kill the Snow Wurms just outside the first camp you get to, without trouble at all. They drop decent gear that you can sell, and lockpicks also.
I use this build to kill them quite fast:
[Rapid fire][Poison tip signet][Screaming shot][Sloth hunter's shot](They never use skills)[Prepared shot][Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support][Comfort animal][Charm animal]

Maybe go with [Oath Shot] over [Prepared Shot] to get [Sloth Hunter's Shot] recharged.

Thanks for the tip, but I don't own anything other than prophecies. I am still trying lots of builds, and I was wondering if the vigorous barrager still works, I keep dying through lack of energy. Would a zealous bow string help?
Thanks for any helpful input

There's two types of the vigorous barrager - one for caster-like-mobs and one for melee type mobs.
The latter is still technically a viable build but since the radical change in the monsters A.I. when Nightfall was released many years ago, it lost its overall effectiveness; you couldn't have 6 monsters around you to barrage, reducing your speed and amount of healing and energy you got. Yes, a Zealous Bow is required to make the build work.
So basically the vigorous barrager for the most part will only work in Normal Mode, as that kind of A.I. has since been removed. The caster one is still effective.
[barrage][healing breeze][distracting shot][storm chaser][heal area][vigorous spirit][balthazar's spirit][live vicariously]
Fire Imps HM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xDAt7oY5fE
(Filmed it before Barrage, Healing Breeze and Vigorous spirit got buffed, so if anything it's faster now)
Ice Imps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKNugEnx0EI&
(yes the video was made before HM but works the same in HM)
[barrage][throw dirt][lightning reflexes][whirling defense][dryder's defenses][optional][vigorous spirit][live vicariously]
Another build you can try would be the generic Spike Trapper.
[serpent's quickness][dust trap][flame trap][barbed trap][spike trap][troll unguent][storm chaser][whirling defense]
Smite Crawlers in Underworld: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO9h0eVBNbk
(I used Winnow instead of Troll cuz I forget where I place my traps lots. Don't take it unless you're experienced in trapping and UW)
You can use it on other monsters like Mountain Trolls, but it's not exactly going to yield much. :(
You probably might be able to farm Grawls in HM as a R/W with a sword. Seeing as the old video I made contains 90% Prophecies skills. You'll probably have to throw in Whirling Defense as warrior stances of a bit of a nerf recently.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope it's a step in the right direction. =]
EDIT
Oh yeah you can farm Hulking Stones with the R/W too.
