R/W for PvP...

If you are going pve i would suggest R/Rt. barrage+splinter weapon will breeze you through the game.

in all honesty you will probably switch between many secondary professions depending on what your doing. splinter barrage for pve, toucher for RA, there are some trapping farms. you can farm zeishen points daily with a trapper too.

Before we can answer that, why are you thinking about r/w and r/d?

toucher for RA
Whatever you do, dont do this.

/agreed if you run toucher any pure ranger with half a skill bar and quarter of a brain will make you look silly

I've never really bothered using secondary professions for Ranger - except in the case of permanent rez skills such as Signet of Return or Resurrect.

R/W = Turrets are the current Meta for PvP.

R/Rt = Splinter + Barrage is nice. - PvE

R/N = touchers are noob .. - Never use them. they even touched me .. lol

exactly. a lot of RA is noob. so a toucher fits right in. but yes any half brain ranger would not go toucher. really you dont want to get that close.

the OP did not really give specifics on what he wanted. what exactly do you want to do with your character?

"Which is best" is an often-asked but largely irrelavant question. Two things you need to realize:

1) What is "best" depends on what you are doing with that character at that particular time and whether you have heroes, etc. (For example... when fighting undead I like going R/D and making my attacks do holy damage for 30 sec at a time). I rarely go R/Rt since my hero takes care of [Splinter Weapon] quite nicely since the update.

2) Unless you plan on living in pre-searing, you will get your character to the point very quickly where you can change your secondary.

Start with PvX.

Stop being lazy and look it up. Keep having someone spoon feed you and you'll never learn.

well the reason why i chose these two is because i had one friend who was a r/w who was really good at it and i also had did a mission with some random people and one of them was a r/d who was pretty much wipping out most of the enemys in the underworld. another reason why is because when i played as a ranger before i would have lots of problems where i would get torn apart by a monster or another player that got to close so i wanted a secondary profession other that necromancer to help me out ( ive tried the toucher thing and it didnt go well) plus i have seen rangers go through stuff only using scythes and other melee wepons.

in PvE Scythes and Hammers work on Rangers... not spectacularly but they work...

the most useful thing /W can give you is [Flail]. Whether it's to fire more shots off to interrupt a dazed caster or just do more damage with a turret, Flail pretty much fits on every bar.

/D doesn't really offer anything imo

and [Splinter Weapon] is better off on a Rit with 14 Channeling, or at least an N/Rt or E/Rt who has the energy to spam it

Lolwat

EDA Volley/Wounding/Reapers/Escape Scythe w/ Apply Poison all work relatively well, don't they? R/P could work just for kicks as a BM in PvE but meh.

Honestly on new Rangers you should just go /Mo or /rt for the hard res and then use nothing but pure ranger skills for the other 7 slots. By the time you are level 20 You can just switch your secondary to whatever anyways.

/me to spread the daze with [Epidemic] caused by [Broad Head Arrow] to all the bunched up casters. A load of minions pretty much keeps them interrupted permanently.
