Hi. I have played with my ranger now and done some quest and I'm now lvl 2. But I'm not sure what I should select as Secound Profession. What is the best secound profession for a ranger?

Thanks for good answers :D ;)

first: there is no "best" second proffesion
but some good combinations are ritualist for [splinter weapon] or elementalist for conjures[conjure lightning] or warior for ias [flail]

In the Campfire section Ranger subforum is a sticky that covers the basics of the ranger profession, including the pros/cons of each possible secondary.

By the way, IAS is Increased Attack Speed

Splinter Weapon [splinter weapon] can do great AoE damage but you have to have factions in order to get ritualist as a secondary. Elementalist as a secondary let's you use conjures [conjure frost], [conjure flame] and [conjure lightning]. In order to use these skills you need a bow that has a cold, fire or shocking string. These skills are great for AoE damage with [barrage] ;)

You can sometimes find them on blue, purple or gold bows that drop randomly from monsters. Use an expert salvage kit to separate the bowstring from the bow, and you can put the salvaged string onto any other bow you want.

When it comes to choosing a secondary profession for a Ranger, when in doubt go Monk. The Ranger is a very self-reliant profession that can do a lot without assistance from a secondary. Taking Monk as a secondary lets you take a reusable resurrection spell, and since Rangers tend to survive very well in difficult situations being able to bring your party back from a near-wipe is very useful. If you have Factions, taking Ritualist as your secondary is good, both because of reusable resurrection spells and a few nice damage enhancers like Splinter Weapon.

Some skills work well with ranger so the professions that have those skills tend to be chosen more often.

Its not a big problem as your secondary class isn't permanent you can change it as often as you wish later in the game.

The chance to change secondary comes quite late in Prophesies but a whole lot earlier in Factions and Nightfall.

People choose Elementalist as a secondary class so they can use conjure element to boost damage.

Ritualist is chosen for the weapon skills such as splinter weapon which adds to area effect damage.

Assassin can be used to increase the effects of critical hits although assassin/ranger works better I find.

Monk is the safe choice for a secondary class which is why its the most common secondary class imo.
