For a very long time now i'm having trouble logging into gwg. Sometimes the first time it works, but most of the times i have to try multiple times. (I posted this after about 15 tries.) Everytime it give me the thanks for logging in screen, but when i return to the page i was watching i'm still not logged on. I have tried from several computers and have checked my cookie settings just to be sure. I have searched forums and Q&A but couldnt find anything on it. I hope you guys can help me, because it can be really annoying.
Tnx.

I'm trying it at home and at work. At work I can understand that it maybe gives troubles because its a secure connection, but at home it should work fine. I just keep myself logged in today, so I can make some replies. And help is welcome. :)

I was on this morning around the time when the server backups normally run. I could get to the forum page no problem, but couldn't view any threads. Normally the forum page won't load at all, so I figured I'd try it in Opera.
This is what I got in Opera:
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/6341/randomcodebt6.png
Don't know if there's anything to do about this, or if it's related to the backups or not (I would assume it is), but I figured I'd let the appropriate people know.

I have noticed quite a few threads I tried to read only come up as a blank white page. I thought maybe I have a corrupted cache or something on my end to cleaned out my Internet file folder and still get blank white pages on some threads.
Could this be an AD related issue causing the page not so load?

I use Firefox 3.0.1 as the Title states and I currently get this error on the majority of threads or pages I click on this forum (I have just joined today), and have never ever had this problem before with any other forums or web sites. I have googled the problem and have done everything other people have suggested on other web sites but it seems that nothing has worked, can anybody help?
The exact error message I get is the following:

I posted a reply in a thread a few hours ago and it came back with this content encoding error on the screen. "The page you are trying to view contains an invalid or unsupported form of compression. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem." I clicked on Try Again, same deal. Logged out (cleared cookies), logged back in again and tried viewing the page I made the reply on, no dice. Went to the utmost extreme and used *shudder* internet exploder instead of Firefox, and the page just came up blank, no errors, no warnings, nothing. Shut down the PC and restarted, tried to view the page once more, but still nada.
Any ideas? Had this problem before? Is there an easy fix?
Thanks.

I don't know if I'm the only one who this problem, but so far it showed on my two computers (laptop and desktop, both with the latest version of FireFox AFAIK). Here goes:
Every now and then I get an error message saying that the page I'm trying to view can't be viewed because it's not a valid form of compression. At first I thought it might have been my internet or some random bug, but it's happening on my laptop right now.
- Happens only on thread pages, and not forums themselves (I can't view threads at all on FireFox);
- Happens only with FireFox, IE works alright;
- Happened on 2 computers with different specs on different connections;
- IIRC both FireFox versions are the same, but I'd have to confirm this with my desktop.
Copy/pasted from FireFox to IE (with minor spacing fixes):

Several topics and in fact objects not related to topics are giving compression errors. Since you guys changed the backup function yesterday to another server, I'd assume it's something related to that.
Example things that fail:
Can't view some threads (Auction Support)
Super Secret Spy Goren (Lyssa's Fiction)
Opening Any Private Message (which is why I have not private messaged an admin with this, it would be futile.)
Error in FireFox 3:
Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
* Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
The topic or object winds up failing every single browser. (I tried 7 of them.)
I believe it might have to do with replies in some way.

PLEASE DON'T REPLY
The error is a Compression error of some type.
To me, I've noticed that I can open any normal members profile, but fail at Mod and above. (Including ArenaNet: Regina's profile fails my browser as well.)
I can still check out Tarun's profile so Technician does not fail.
All topics seem to fail when a donator (who are also unreadable profile wise) or up posts. The instant anyone NOT a normal member posts, the entire topic becomes unreadable.
Private Messages in general (No matter member type) are unreadable. (So sending them is pretty futile.)
All non-normal member profiles are unreadable.
You encounter an error upon posting but it doesn't matter.
To test I'd like it if NO ONE REPLIED. This could help narrow down the problem a bit, maybe?
So yeah, please don't reply. :( Every topic I've tested that failed so far have failed upon anyone above Normal Member/Technician level posting in the topic, so yeah! PLease DON'T REPLY. (even if you are a normal member!)
Earth edit: We are aware of this problem and it'll be fixed ASAP. Thanks for helping out.

It's not the non-loading post thread, but I linked it because it's a vague guess at whats going on. For some reason anyone who is not a normal member/technician crashes threads when they post.

Now that you have fixed the thread access problem, I have developed a new one or two.
1. AVG keeps giving a threat warning everytime I access a thread. - JS/Downloader
2. get a bar across the top with this
This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Remote Data Service Data Control' from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust, blah blah blah
I'm sorry if I broke everything. I promise I'll never do it again. (Or I would if I knew what I did in the first place.)
Inde
Sep 19, 2008, 07:10 PM
Darcy, the AVG threat warning is just AVG. I went ahead and looked into this, it's not a virus just the way AVG is reading some script on the page. As for the other one.... I have no idea. I'm going to merge with the other thread though to just keep it on the list.

Sep 19, 2008, 08:18 PM
Darcy,
Item 2 is caused by a script that was entered in before the pages DOCTYPE (Nothing should be before the DOCTYPE, ever!) that referenced the website that kazi_saki mentioned.
I've asked a few people to look at the script and see what it does. No results yet. :\

File Status: File was cured; system cure performed.
Also from my IE popup blocker, it says:
"This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Remote Data Services Data Control' from 'Microsoft Corporation.' If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here...
Of course I never trust any website that wishes me to install any RDS add on. :D

Whoa the message box is teeny tiny now! Writing this reply is going to be interesting...
Some things I've noticed since the "page can't be found" thing started, some annoying and some trivial:
1. The popup blocker message (yes I'm still using IE) mentioned above.
2. I'm being logged out when opening threads in a new window/tab. (This one is really annoying, because I don't get ads when logged in and I'm getting that annoying "helloooooo" smiley ad when I'm not.)
3. I swear the ": D" smiley has changed, it used to be yellow and now it's a big green toothy one (that's possibly to do with the vbulletin upgrade though).
4. The size of the reply window! :P
EDIT: 5. The tongue smiley no longer works. (Did it ever, or am I getting confused with other forums?)

2 things I have noted.
1. post quick reply will either give you one of two errors ---you must wait 5 minutes to post again or the you already posted, 30 seconds until you can post again.
2. logging me out, yes this has been a bane of mine, but I logged in to post on a thread ....it didnt like me on my first try, so on the second attempt it logged me in, but took me to the home forum page....so I had to go and find the thread I was trying to post to... it was a few pages in (an older thread) and by the time I got to it, I was logged out----had to log in again (on the first attempt this time).
(I have also had the problem with posting on threads that are linked---it ALWAYS has me logged out for those...as well as some images that you must click on to see---even if I am logged in it tells me to log in again---but this was happening well before yesterday)
Squishy ftw

The 'Go Advanced' when editing is fixed, and so is the big graphical error after editing a post. Thanks for being so fast in fixing this.
But as you save an edit to your post, your post looks wider than all other posts. I think that the width of your post is the only one that's on the correct width/margins tho as the others seem to be a bit too small when looking at the bar at the top of the page.

New addition!
In a lot of my subscribed threads, clicking the "Go to last post" button is a broken link - I think it's any thread that hasn't been posted in since the, uh, downtime. This is the link it gives:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?p=0#post0
Edit: Go to last post is broken for any thread that hasn't had a new post since last night, just checked in Sardelac.

I know this is very minor, but annoys me for some reason. In front of thread titles, there used to be no emoticons for the default thread options, and now there's one (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif). Same in posts within threads.
(In all honesty I like these sets of smileys better, as they are the same height as characters used by default. There's no extra spacing when you use a smiley, which always bothered me.)

The quick reply window (where you actually type the text) is trucated for some odd reason.
It's only about 15 characters long, so message typed there get squashed (on Vista, IE).
Edit: Diddy Bow has the same problem (oh, nice new feature though, a "reason for editing" bar when you edit your posts.)
Edit 2: Oh, the gash icons are no longer working. I don't think that's on the wiki's end, but the code or whatever that pulled those onto this site was not implimented along with the reboot.

I was using ETrust Antivirus software as my company sponsors it. It is quite good but it is not free. Virus authors tend to test their new viruses against free anti-virus software first which means the free ones are less dependable.

Whenever I post a new post, it has me double posting (usually it says that I need to wait before posting again, but sometimes it just goes and posts two times).
Also, whenever I go to edit, then delete, then Delete this post or go advance (in the edit menu) it says that:
Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.
If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error.

After looking at the URLs through a URL dissection tool:

The results are interesting. And the links are safe to click. :)

the 'post quick reply' now goes to the 'redirecting' page (telling you that you can now post a poll if that is what you want to do etc)....it posts but not very quickly.

I'm having no problems staying logged in and when I return to the site, it is remembering me.
But "post quick reply" is slower than molasses in January.

I also have no problems staying logged in, but the forums "remember me" does not work for me any longer.
And... The "Quick Reply" isn't!

I'm fine as long as I keep a Firefox Window open but if I shut al windows and then come back to Guru later I'm logged out.
And the quick reply works for me.

I have a feeling that may be a Firefox specific error. If I shut down FF then re-open and re-log into Guru, I have to re-enter my nick and password. This doesn't seem to happen when I do the same in IE and Chrome.
IE does suffer from the rather amusing 15-characters-wide quick reply box, though ^^

I'm having some login issues as well-even though I tell it to log me in with each visit I still have to sign in everytime I come here.

This. I ran a test on that earlier, cleared guru's old cookies and now it keeps me logged in.
Clear your cookies everyone, or eat them!

thought I'd post some of the issues I've had since guru was hacked.
1. Most thread's have a scaling glitch at the top (see pic)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/Baranor/th_glitch.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/Baranor/glitch.jpg)
2. It won't keep me logged in even though I select "remember me" each time I log in.
3. the skill system, don't know what it's called, where you can just type Crippling Slash etc won't show me the skills, just the code :(
using firefox 3
oh and the smilies are weird :p
hope it helps :ninja:

None of the build/skill icon coding seems to be working for me, regardless of the browser I use. Anyone else having this issue?
Stoped working around eight days ago.

gwBBCode has to be readded. Give it time and it should come back. It has been reported and is most likely being worked on.

As Michiko has said, if you are having problems staying logged in please remember to CLEAR YOUR COOKIES. See if that works, it's helped a good majority of people.
On the other issues, the other skin is almost ready to go. The template is nearly all coded and updated. Any of you can see that by scrolling to the bottom and choosing from the drop-down box Guild Wars Guru V3B. We have some images issues and other minor coding but we expect to switch that out within the next couple of days.

Couple of things I noted that I did not see noted, since the Hack issue.
1. GW BB code is not working
2. The Quick Reply window at the bottom of the post is very small.

Not sure if this is the proper place to put this or if it's already been brought up (I didn't see anything of it). :p If it has, my apologies.
Has anyone else noticed since the forum troubles and the site has been back, that we no longer have a View Profile option under the Quick Links?
Not sure if this was an intentional change or not or if it's just elsewhere and I'm not seeing it. I found that feature quite useful, especially for going and seeing what I posted/editing posts posts.
Thanks. :)

The place where it says (in my case), this:
Welcome, Earth.
You last visited: 09-24-2008 at 10:11 PM
Private Messages: Unread 0, Total 283.
You can click on your name there. If you don't know where it is, it's just above the quick links link.

If you mean this:

...then it doesn't work for me. The only clickable link is "Private messages."

"Remember me" is busted for me since the hacking episode. Even after clearing cookies, I still can't get it to remember my login once I leave the site.
[Edit: Nvm, found the problem. Also had to wipe web1.guildwarsguru.com cookies. Now it's working. What's with the double cookies?]

True, and I can't seem to be able to use the Multiquote option button.
And perhaps the cookie/login problem could be addressed somewhere clearer, like in the post from Inde.

Multiquote is still broken. Don't know the timeline on fixing that.
And the cookies have been updated with the update on the forum. Clearing out the old cookies and allowing for the new cookies should fix the problem.

Just wanted to check if I am supposed to be able to delete my post. I pressed the wrong button and double-posted. When I brought up the edit to erase the text in the second post, I had an option to delete it. So I did.
Is this a new feature? If yes, please announce it.
