View Full Version : Er... Ranger on Other Classes?

Hi!

Ok, so... I have a little request. (I know this has been spread out in other posts, and I have been hunting, but I'm worried I might have missed some.) Can other classes wield a bow semi-efficiently with a ranger second in PvE? I know I know, I'm asking for lesser builds and stuff. But I've had this hankering to try the idea out ever since I first got the game. But I was hoping to still get some input/help on build ideas.

So far what I have been thinking are these:
A monk with a 20% en mod bow, since many monks simply wield a 20%en sword, why not a bow? Of course they still rely almost fully on casting but this way my monk won't want to run into the fray on autoattack after casting.
A ritualist wielding SS (and a weapon spell, of course) with a bow? If I use this, should I still up my ranger second, or even bother with one for that matter?
I believe this has been done before: An elementalist with a bow dealing elemental damage.
I take it rangers don't count as meelee (unless GW has some weird rule of wordage), so an IW mesmer wouldn't work. Too bad... *loves mesmers* but it sounds like SS is better than IW anyway, eh? Oh, what about a mesmer with a ranger second, 16 illusion, and Signet of Illusions? Sounds very silly, I know.

Thanks for input and such! I appreciate it greatly. :D

my guild uses a Rt/R with [[barrage] and [[splinter wea] for a lot of things. really i think some form of [[barrage] is what other classes use a bow for. massive AoE bow damage. i don't really know of many other uses another class would have for a bow other than just pulling.

A bow would take up both weapon slots and you would therefore be doing without a focus / shield. Have your monk use a Spear instead to stop the lerroying :)

I've Ran a Dagger Rit and seen some Scythe Rits , not sure how good a Rit/R would be but i imagine it could work out very nicely.

I'm not sure if this would apply to every arrow or just the first one to hit, but you could try [[ebon dust aura] and [[volley.], maybe even [[mark of rodgort] and [[volley]. Just remember that this is not optimal gameplay, but its PvE so just worry about having fun.

Critical Barrager on a Sin

Nightmare Spike on a Rit

I'm sure an Ele with a conjure/I am the Strongest/Dual shot/called shot/quick shot could pull of some good damage.

But each proffession mentioned there has better builds to use.

I personally see nothing wrong with an entire team running Distracting Shot and weapon swaping as needed though.

Regardless of any combination you might come up with, Ranger still makes a poor secondary.

12 + Critical Strikes
12 Marksmanship:

[Burning Arrow][Keen Arrow][Sloth Hunter's Shot][Screaming Shot][Disrupting Accuracy][Critical Eye][Critical Agility][Way of The Master]

-OR-

[Barrage][Sloth Hunter's Shot][Keen Arrow][Critical Eye][Critical Agility][Sharpen Daggers][Way of the Master][Dash]

Fun builds, though keeping up all those enchantments/skills may become mind-numbing after a point.

Most of the time. I do agree that ranger makes a poor secondary but it depends on what you plan to do with it. With [antidote signet] being buffed I have seen warriors going /ranger for it, it is a great skill to carry to melee bars. Melee class with the potential to trash 4 conditions from themselves, yes please.

I stand corrected. There IS at least one use of a /Ranger.
