Hey guys
After having played mostly pvp over the last few months i finally came back to pve and decided to make a ranger. I know how to play them in pvp but no idea in pve :(
My Current Build is
[Broad Head Arrow][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot][Apply Poison][Natural Stride][No Skill][No Skill][No Skill]
As you might notice i am missing 3 skill and i really have no idea what to fill them. Anyone got any suggestions?

slap in epidemic and you have a winner

favorable winds or read the wind so that you have less chance to miss with broad head arrow because of that skills high arc.

BHA arc is unaffected by any of those.

Rangers have the best stances in GW without question - therefore you should look into [Dwarven Stability]. I also use either [Serpent's Quickness] or [Lightning Reflexes] as my stance since hexes and enchantments (damn monks) are fairly common in PvE, but there's certainly nothing wrong with Natty either. I love Lightning so much because it's under Expertise.
[Volley] is also a very solid choice with your BHA if you use [Epidemic] as suggested, just remember that it'll pull your poison off. Then I'd slap in a res signet and be on my merry way.
Or just wait for Tyla to tell you how to do it :p

What I usually run:
[Broad Head Arrow][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot][Read The Wind][Pin Down][Natural Stride]["Finish Him!"][Sunspear Rebirth Signet]
My equipment and attributes probably aren't optimal, but I haven't bothered to change those.
I don't experience much difference in BHA's curve when FW or RtW is in effect, so I don't think it matters. I have Pin Down instead for slowing targets before I fire. "Finish Him!" is a good finisher or a good way to speed up killing bosses. I don't get much use out of my res, so I may consider changing that to something else in the future.

Shayne - swap Pin Down with You Move like a Dwarf for a nice 2,5 seconds to ensure BHA hits. That's what I do.
[Broad Head Arrow][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot][Read the Wind][You Move Like a Dwarf][Natural Stride][Epidemic][Sunspear Rebirth Signet]
And you win pve.

I know nothing!
Okay, well...
If you've had experience interrupting in PvE before, or keep your eye out while playing anything, you'll notice that most monsters use most skills in the same places. Some even try and get it up straight away, e.g Throw Dirt. The AI uses that skill extremely predictably. You see them rushing up, when they're quite close fire off a Savage Shot and no blind conditions are even existent in the party.
As for builds, I usually run with the following:
[broad head arrow][distracting shot][savage shot][volley][sloth hunter's shot][no skill][no skill][resurrection signet]
Same old same old in terms of attribution.
For the optionals, PvE-only skills, Mending Touch can be used on the party aswell as you and considering how bad the AI of melee is you'll probably be rolling with casters, so you can run to them and remove conditions from there. Stances such as [[lightning reflexes], and others in the Expertise line although I prefer that one because of the integrated IAS. I generally have Volley and Sloth's on the same bar because I always have a copy of Splinter Weapon in my group, so I get the masive AoE damage of it still. Sloth's is for decent one target damage.
As for no Epidemic, I just really can't be bothered with it any more.

IMHO read the wind is not as good as apply poison, cause all you have to do is just move closer "short bow ftw" and you will not need it.
[build=OgMTcTcm5xV+YUNzGBQe9X7bAA]
but if you want to be a pro all you really need is [distracting shot]

Speccing 8 just for a self heal, and a sub-par one in terms of team play is bad. So is no D-Shot.
Troll Unguent should remain on your Rangers bar in terms of splitting.

@Tyla why are you no using a prep?

@Tyla why are you no using a prep? [[Volley] removes preps.
And most preps don't really do a lot in PvE, tbh.

Volley, like Barrage removes preperations on use.
It's a good tradeoff seeing as I get loads of splash out of it via Splinter Weapon.

[build=OgMTcVMmZaV8ucxo4Ym03A7QmA] this is my suggestion switch the spirit for anything really thats what i like over splinter barrage
Wow, well [I Am The Strongest] and [Barrage] is a waste of a PVe skill (imo) because the +damage is gone for 20 seconds after the first barrage. If you got nothing to place there, then fine, but I always have something better. (Suggesting [Dodge This] because into a mob it should charge every hit.)
Secondly, why oh why do you have [Great Dwarf Weapon]. You dont have a pet, you cant use it on yourself, and if you want to put it on the melee, casters can better afford to use it.
Finally 8 Attribute points for a long cast, generally only average self heal? As tyla said, bit of a waste. Drop that and those atts for something better. No self heal works well in a good team build because then you can spec for damage.

it really depends what type of ranger you want to be , and what you want to do with it
if you want to do DoA , FoW , UW and other high end areas go [ursan]
if you want to cause large scale damage with a bow go [splinter weapon] and [barrage]
if you like to cause degen go [burning arrow] ..
all about what type of ranger you want to be . i can post some builds later , just on wrong computer atm btw :p

I've done DoA, FoW and UW Many many times on my Ranger not using UB, infact I've only used UB one time, and that was shortly after getting it to see what the hype was about.
I feel asleep from bordome after 10 minutes of playing with UB.
In DoA trapper is good, I also typically run Blood is Power while trapping to aide the monks healing the idiot Leeroy Ursans.
FoW ther is tons of Undead, so take Judge's insight and Barrage or other high Damage skills and be in awe of the Damage you can create.
UW, moar traps, BHA, Barrage, they all work in team builds.
Honestly, I use wiki prior to anything I do in PvE (I'm PvE nub, too much time in PvPland) and set my build in preperation for what I'm about to go against.

everyone can be useful in a special situation... even [greater conflagration]
[Greater Conflagration] + [Winter] = every non-armor ignoring type of damage is cold damage. Can't believe I'm giving advice for Ursans but [Dwarven Stability] + [Mantra of Frost] + [Ursan Blessing] along with a ranger bringing those makes survival so pitifully easy.
Now if you really want to back up the unquoted part of your post, show me a legitimate (aka nothing better for the build) use for [Expert's Dexterity] or [Archer's Signet].

I agree to what Mortiz say.
I mean, why barrage?
Volley, Splinter AND broad head arrow
Dont waste your elite slot on Barrage when volley works well.

For the build above, I'd say add Epidemic, Lightning Reflexes and a Res but, as other people have posted, BHA + volley + splinter weapon is pretty much as good as you'll get for a Ranger in a single build. I also team it with Distracting Shot, Lightning Reflexes, Troll, Flesh and then there's an optional slot which changes depending on the area (I like using Summons, but Pain Inverter, Frozen Soil, Whirling Defense have also gone in there if I'm a little concerned I'll have to tank at some point)
Because there are at least 4 primary rangers in the Guild (kinda surprised you didn't ask there), you'll want to have one, if not 2, backup builds you're comfortable with for variety and viability. There's a Glass Arrows + Conjure build that is floating around but apparently I saved it wrong so you'd have to ask Cartis or Drunk. Being able to tank would also be a good idea eventually as we seem chronically short of warriors and rangers can and have filled that space. Even in HM. Other than that, have a play around and have some fun - Rangers are incredibly diverse and yes, even pets work in HM. Just like PvP, builds only go a certain way in PvE, the rest is about timing, positioning and team work. Watch Cartis not me! I play suicidally and bridge aggro :P

How well is a packhunter doing in PvE?
Spears, heal as one. etc.
