View Full Version : How are ranger/monks for PVP and PVE?

I had a Ranger/Monk when guildwars first came out, I have not played the game in years however.
Now I am playing nightfall. My ranger/monk was never a frontliner or much of a healer. Mainly I would root enemies, disrupt mages, do damage and also ressurect my team. I rarley died, anyone who attacked me I would disrupt/run or root/run. I had no trouble with PVE.
So is this build still viable for PVP/PVE, any other recommendations for a secondary for a ranger?

[mending touch] ---> is what you'll find what people would go /mo for. The only other thing I've seen people run is /Rit for [Splinter weapon] or /E for [conjure flame]
Edited to add that I should have been born blonde as I forgot abut the gimmicks --> R/P's with [heal as one] and R/D's with [Escape]... and all of the others that Luminarus mentioned. :o

You forgot:
Warrior for [Flail], [Save Yourselves][Hammer Bash][Crushing Blow][Earth Shaker], & swords & axes.
Paragon for spears
Necro for touches
Dervs for [Ebon Dust Aura], & scythes
Assassins for daggers (retarded, but fun), and [Shadow Form]
Basically there is alot of options out there for ranger. They are the best "Jack of all trades" because they can do nearly anything that other classes can do just as well. Shutdown, interupts, damage, melee, tank, spiker, etc. The only thing they cant do very well is heal.

PvP: [crippling shot]
PvE: [Burning Arrow] or [BHA]
This is the general template
[Savage Shot][Distracting Shot][empty][Natural Stride][Apply Poison][Mending Touch][Troll Unguent][empty]
Last slot for PvP: [Resurrection Signet]
Last slot for PvE: [Sunspear Rebirth Signet][Resurrection Chant], or whatever.
Attributes should be 14 Expertise, 10 Marksmanship, 10 Wilderness Survival, 3 Protection Prayers
I like to trap in PvE so here's the build I use:
[Distracting Shot][Smoke Trap][Barbed Trap][Dust Trap][Flame Trap][Pious Concentration][Troll Unguent][Sunspear Rebirth Signet]
13 Expertise, 14 Wilderness Survival

does [conjure flame] add any damage to a bow? does it add damage to kindle or ingite arrows?
i have a bow that gives +15% damage while enchanted, will [conjure flame] help that?

does [conjure flame] add any damage to a bow? Yes, if you're using Kindle Arrows or a Fiery string.
does it add damage to kindle or ingite arrows? A bit confusing here - Ignite Arrows does nothing with Conjure, so we can ignore that.
Now, Kindle Arrows - Conjure does not add damage to kindle, however, kindle changes your bow damage to fire so Conjure will do +dmg with your bow when using kindle and conjure together.
i have a bow that gives +15% damage while enchanted, will [conjure flame] help that? Conjure is an enchantment, so yes.
As for the topic - /Mo is amazing in PvP, all because of [[mending touch]
As for PvE, there's not really much of interest from the /Mo secondary - there's hard res, but you can get stronger resses from /Rt ([[death pact signet], [[flesh of my flesh]) alongside the super-sexy [[splinter weapon]
