View Full Version : Came back and is lost

I came back from a long absence from the game and I was wondering if anyone knew what build I was following with these skills and stats:

Ranger/Monk

Healing Prayers-6
Smiting Prayers-0
Protection Prayers-1
Beast Mastery-0
Expertise-5
Wilderness Survival-0
Marksmanship-9

Skill Slots:
Dual Shot
Ignite Arrows
Read the Wind
Charm Animal
Retribution
Mending
Heal Area
Resurrect

The build was used for PvE only, I think, and this is on just Guild Wars, I don't have the expansions.

If you need more info, just ask.

If there is a suggested build, 1 PvE build and 1 PvP build, or 1 that includes both, that would be nice. I will be getting the other expansions.

May I point your attention to http://www.pvxwiki.com/

Also, mending fails on anything other than a 55 monk.

Elite, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Apply Poison, Block Stance, Other Utility, Trolls Unguent, Res.

Very solid, but your bar should always have D-Shot in it if you're wielding a bow.

You can always run this though: Barrage, Conjure X, Lightning Reflexes, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Throw Dirt, Res Sig, Favourable Winds.

Conjure can be switched to Judge's Insight, but you'll need a Zealous bow string to keep it up, but it's nice for a little extra damage. The res can be Rebirth (Only use if you escaped a wipe, never mid battle), Restore Life (Quite bad, but Resurrect is worse) or just stick with Resurrection Signet.

Stats for the above build should be 14 Marks, 13 Expertise.

OP, your build sucks.

There should be no reason you should bring Mending, Retribution, or Heal Area.

Also, you can only have one preparation up at a time.

Having a pet and not investing in Beast Mastery is an epic fail.

Resurrect is a bad rez skill. Bring Resurrection Chant of Flesh of my Flesh in PvE.

The damage from a bow is negligible. Dual shot sucks in all aspects. If you want (more) damage, roll a trapper, splinter barrage, bunny thumper, etc.

And Distracting Shot should be stapled to your bar at all times, except for Bunny thumping, and (maybe) trapping.

Also, it doesn't look like you have all your attribute points. Well, when you do, be sure to put max points into Expertise.

Seems to me like he hasnt been farther than Ascalon...

The only monk skill that you need is a reusable rez, maybe rebirth. In any case, you should dump the other ones, rangers arent made to be casters. (yes, I know there are exceptions)

And when you'll get all your attribute points, you can choose wether to max out (over 12) Expertise or Marskmanship, that'll be up to you.

I could always relocate the stats right?

I think I was following the R/Mo Basic Ranger Runner build.

So I'm thinking of switching to the R/Any Barrage Ranger build, is there any tips to which secondary profession I should use? I never understood the purpose of any, if most of the skills are of the primary.

ANY bow ranger bar lacking [distracting shot] is fail. [retribution] is fail. [mending] is epic fail.

You should at least have distracting shot and [savage shot] instead of those monk enchants and [heal party]

[rebirth]>resurrect

Expertise must be much much higher.

go monk for condition removal/rez
mesmer for [[epidemic]
ele for [[conjure lightning] or whatever element
i would avoid warrior and necro

i dont know how to answer "what build was i running" other than:
you were running:
[dual shot][ignite arrows@0][read the wind@9][charm animal@0][retribution@0][mending@6][heal area@6][resurrect]
thats not any well known build and as ppl have said already its not particularly good either.
edit: even besides the skills whats up with the attributes...
edit2:Elite, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot, Apply Poison, Block Stance, Other Utility, Trolls Unguent, Res.

actually stats for the build you suggested should be 14 expertise, 10 marks, 10 wild survival, and if you go mending touch as "utility" 3 prot prayers.

I think Tyla's attributes were referring to the Barrage/Conjure or Barrage/Judge's Insight build. The basic template is very strong, the problem is, there ain't many strong elites in Prophecies, and Barrage is really only good with [splinter weapon] from Factions. IDK, maybe use [Oath Shot]? If what you want to do is dish damage, start another character (Necro/Warrior/Ele), as rangers are better interrupting and shutting down stuff.

The basic Barrage template is here:

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:R/any_Barrage_Ranger

And you can put in there [conjure frost] or any of the other of the conjure spells, take out Wilderness Survival, put the points in Fire Magic/Water Magic/Air Magic, and take off Troll Unguent for it. Also there's the option to switch out Marksmanship and Expertise, so the latter is 14 and the first one like 11.

NOSEBLEED: Would highly recommend you have a quick read of the Ranger Guide (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10261054) posted at the top of this forum.

The guide contains an elite-less build, and several decent specimen builds, including some suitable for AB, along with notes on weaponry, rune / armour setup and a quick evaluation of elite choices.

Go easy, based on the skills listed, it looks like this character hasn't been out of pre-searing very long. This also explains why so few attribute points.

There are no Wilderness Survival skills in that build, and only Proph = no Mending Touch or Natural Stride.

Although, some in Expertise should be replaced by some in the Conjure. Or maybe Marks, I don't often go past 10 Marksmanship myself.

i thought he was giving attributes for the elite, dshot, savage shot, apply poison, etc build.
no wild survival=no apply poison=get out mah ranger!

edit: oh and yeah, he should take some out of marksmanship for conjure, def not expertise. rangers without high expertise are rangers w/o energy

If hes running the first build u posted, troll unguent is in wilderness.

If hes running conjure, he needs points in it.

If hes running [Judges Insight] he needs points in smiting to make it sustainable & or, feesable. Stopping every 10 seconds to cast it for 2 seconds is very innefficient.

no wild survival=no apply poison=get out mah ranger!

There are places without fleshy creatures. The Undead in Kryta, and Titans to name a few.

In places like those, I switch out Apply for [Throw Dirt].
