View Full Version : My ranger armor and build

I play mostly in random arenas and I know that armor configurations are more of less preference.

But I cant help but ask someone here to give me tips and even pick and armor set for me.

As of right now my ranger build is pretty solid and I use all fire resist armor.

The reason I chose to do so was because fire elemetals were raping me more often than lightning.

It has served me exceptionally well but I cant help but wonder if there is a more optimal route for random arena fights.

my build is currently as follows:

Vigoruous Spirit--cause I use vampiric bow.
Whirling Defense
Glass Arrows
Zojun's Shot-----"I just learned that these 2 shots have been upgraded" today.
Point Blank Shot-
Needling Shot
Lightning reflexes

"These two shots now only cost 5 energy and had the dmg increased significantly"

I loved this configuration before but now it is sick dps if your looking to smash any foe who does not use shield of absorbtion or blind to any great effect.

Stances always end and I am still able to spike after them so typically they are only a minor annoyance.

Anyways if there is anything armor wise I should know or take into account please tell me your suggestions.

I was think of trying an all physical resist setup but perhaps a mix would be best and then there is which slot would benefit most from what resist.

Thank you in advance for any help.

In general, in pvp, you want to maximise the amount of maximum health you have. This means using all survivor insignias and keeping all runes, except vigor, as a minor rune. You will also want to add Vitae runes on items that don't need attribute runes. if your health is at 600+ you should be good. Anything lower than 540 I would say is not the best choice of armor in pvp.

Exception to this rule: If you are using an Assassin, you may need to use higher energy insignias and stuff in order to get attack chains off. The normal energy pool for most assassin builds is about 30 max energy. Once you reach this amount of energy, you should add as much health as possible.

i agree with brian to the point where he says use all minor runes... after that im iffy for a ranger... why you ask (or is it only me...) well rangers probably have the best survivability in the game... so survivor runes arent that necessary imo... i usually just go with survivors on chest and leggings and eveyrthng else is radiant then i use vitae i guess since i get 30e with my setup and 585 health which is pretty nice for a ranger...

and if youre getting owned by fire eles you should probably bring an interrupt since looking at your bar you kinda have zero... which imo is a nono as a ranger... just like fit either dshot or savage up to you... but armor wise i already said what i needed to say

not gonna comment on your bar...

nice dps though :D

Distracting Shot
Savage Shot

Interruption is perhaps one of the most powerful things a Ranger can do in PvP. You have 100 AL vs all Elemental damage before any mods are taken into account, that's better a Warrior or a Paragon. That, coupled with the Ranger's powerful interruption ability and the Ranger's self-sufficiency makes you the ideal Elementalist killer. You have all the ideal counters... I think once you start packing some interrupts those Fire Eles are going to regret messing with you.

once, i dshotted every single spell on a fire ele's bar (yes, that includes the ever present flare), just because i could. terrific fun.

for ranger, i'd personally go with radiant armor. since i generally play the energy-heavy cripshot ranger build, having a larger energy buffer really helps more than additional health. but i agree with everything else that's been said: minor attribute runes, superior vigor rune. i personally use a reduce crippling duration rune instead of a vitae, but that's just me.

That is so much fun, though power block is fun as well. But with pvp I tend to use a little bit lower health and win almost all the time. I prefer Stronger power and about 500 health. Thats average for me but I tend to use sup and major runes mostly in pvp
