Last night, for unknown reason, I came to Thirsty River to help out some people with the mission. Because it's quite late, there's not much people in there. I saw a monk shouting something about doing desert mission for 5k. And so...being an a-hole as I am, start shouting out for doing mission for 3k. Of course this got him angry, so this is what he says
(to others):She's not real, she's just copying me.
(to me):You can't run! You're a freaking mesmer
And then after a few more taunts, he logged off.
Oh yea...mesmer discrimination is still there, even for a pro monk that have Elite Skill Hunter title.

I don't really see it as discrimination. Many other classes would be able to run the mission easier. Since my E/R had a hard time running the mission, I'd assume it would be harder for my Me/Mo.

Me/Mo can do it, with the right skills no one can touch you without being severely hurt.

How's that?

Tsk. Tsk. When will people learn that Mesmers have feelings too.

People only fear what they don't understand... And let's face it - most people don't understand mesmers. Just something we have to live with, I guess...
I mean, if everyone understood what we were truly capable of then we'd lose our edge

I got some classic silent Mesmer hate yesterday. Was going to do Ice Caves of Sorrow. I got invited into a group straight away...the head of the group, a wammo, invited 7 other people, after which, someone said "We need monks"... 2 seconds later I got kicked. We had 2 rangers, a mesmer (me), something else and THREE BLOODY WAMMOS! No...don't kick a wammo....kick the mesmer! I said in local chat something like "Yeah that's right, thanks mate....three wammos and you kick the mesmer...hench it is then"...naturally I get no response.
Needless to say I went through Ice Caves and Iron Mines in 1 hour and 15 minutes...with heroes/hench - umm, oh, and I had 2 mesmers...me and Norgu with identical builds...and, oh...NO wammos. The interrups were just madness. I hate human groups, so much so that I did Ice Caves with my ele for the bonus as well...people begged me to let them in since I was doing the bonus and I was just like "no, humans are stupid, hench ftw". Didn't go down too well...

I've done Thirsty River many times with other characters (W/R, R/Mo, Mo/E, N/Me, Rit/N, A/Mo). My Me/Mo hasn't gotten there yet, but here is what I plan to use:
Healing Mesmer:
Orison Of Healing
Vigorous Spirit
Dwayna's Kiss
Heal Other
Healing Seed
Mend Ailment
Power Drain/Inspired Enchantment
Rebirth
Offensive Mesmer:
Backfire
Shatter Enchantment
Empathy
Power Spike
Energy Burn/Energy Tap
Cry of Frustration
Ether Feast
Rebirth
The Healing Mesmer is to remove hexes, interupt casters and of course heal the party. The good thing about PvE is that Fast Casting isn't all that important, and since I may not have any elites, I never included them in my two builds.
I could sorta cheat and goto Canthas and pickup some other skills (Blessed Light, Resurrection Chant, etc.) but I may not endup doing that.
These are examples of something I was mulling over in my head for Thirsty River. Elona's Reach is a whole lot more fun. :D

I was a Mo/E when my first taste of Mesmer love showed.
We were in Iron Mines and our group leader said in the local chat, "glf mesmer, self invite". We had 2 Warriors (/Mo, /R), 2 Necros (MM, Blood), 2 Monks, 1 Ele.
This was about 7 months ago I think. I still laugh about it now. I said to the group, "I've never seen anyone ask for a mesmer before". We all laughed. Sadly, no mesmers were around at the time. :(
I had already started my N/Me, so I knew I love mesmers, but to see someone actually requesting a Mesmer (not just an interupt mesmer) sorta warmed my heart a bit that day (after all, it was Iron Mines, and possibly -40 degrees in town).

I... guess I'm interpreting the OP different than anyone else. It sounded like his gripe was that the monk thought that a mesmer couldn't run Thirsty well... as in, run it.
I can't really think of a worse runner than a Mesmer primary.

Are you serious? N/Rit. No running skills at all. :D
I like the fact that you can slow people down, run fast and ignore crippling. Think about Illusion of Haste + Dash = Enchantment + stance.
Insane speed and 0 crippling. Oh, you get crippling when it ends, but you can make sure it never ends. Cast (FC) IoH and run, almost out, cast again.
Lots of fun.

I concede a N would be the worst primary ever for a runner, since they'd have either no running skills or no way to keep themselves alive.
IoH is at the bottom of my list for running because even with a 20%enchant mod, you spend too much time stopping & casting IoH to make it worthwhile. I've chestrun with my Me/Mo before and he works fine when I get to choose my path, but I would not try running Thirsty with him.

I once got shafted for a Mesmer Henchie. I kept on shouting and shouting on general chat that I was a mesmer.... and then they went ahead and did the mission.

i was at thunderhead keep and after about 45 minutes of spamming, i finnaly got a group...as you know, thunderhead keep is filled with mursaat....a dom mesmers playground. i get whispers such as "no you cant join, they are useless in this mission and in pve" yeah it does suck, especially since most mesmers arent to good but that doesnt mean there arent good ones out there. from what ive seen most mesmers just spam degens skills...mesmers about more than that. i dont know, if you think 140 armor ignoring damage from ineptitude is bad (just and example), you better wise up. mesmers are allowed in any of my groups any day.

I must be lucky because I haven't met anyone who has insulted the mesmer profession.
The bad apples I have met and did not like, were the ones who were not good at leading or advising, but were awfully experienced in being incredibly opinionated and insulting to anyone who wasn't as knowledgable as them.
Those people I cannot like.
Even if I am in a PUG where it's obvious that we are all very inexperienced in what we are trying to do, I offer advice and attempt to bring some order to the group. If it becomes clear that the people are unresponsive to helpful advice, it is time to leave.

PuG used to insult mesmer all the time, but that had been reduced a lot since The Scribe issue that talked about mesmer.
Now you rarely get them, but that doesn't mean they're not there.

Diversion is essential versus all monk bosses (especially ones with Woh and orison :) )

I did buy a run for Thirsty River with one of my characters as there was no one around who wanted to try it with a PuG (kept trying for two days). The normal price is 5k. Essentially the "runner" does the mission solo, while the rest of the party waits.
My mesmer has never been kicked from a group. She is more likely to get multiple invitations. But I have been asked several times if I was bringing a particular skill. I would ask the leader why and if the answer fell into the "everybody says" category, I would leave. But if the leader has a plan, I am always willing to try it.

I did Thirsty River with my level 3 mesmer wearing presearing armor. (I took henchies, I didn't "run" it.) I just built to counter the most annoying enemies in the mission and positively owned the place.

you do't really need to be infused...it just makes it easier. The last time I did that bonus was with a uninfused necro and a whole sack of henchies. There are only a couple mursaat that you actually need to kill anyway.
Back on-topic...
there have been many times when I am hanging out in an outpost and see someone spamming for a mesmer. But I did have a group for FoW a few weeks ago where our monk left because s/h/it had never had a good experience with a mesmer...oh well, we were better off without that monk.
I also was in Elona Reach the other day and some group was spamming "GLF one more monk and then we go (already have 2)" I was on my monk at the time and just had to publicly laugh at them and their desire for 50% of their team to be non-damage...

I just started back on my mesmer after a LONG time using her as storage space and I have not heard anything negative and get into every group I try to join. She is darn cute though in that little nightie thing.

I just finished NF with my Mesmer. I've tried playing one 3 or 4 times before and while I enjoyed it, I just never got hooked. Now, after months of experience I have to say; Mesmer has got to be the most interesting class in the game. Degen I'm not so thrilled by, but disruption; disruption is more fun than anything else I have done in GW. Domination magic is amazing.

Yeah, it can be fun to do some damage while denying the enemy to do their damage at the same time. Other classes can do that to, but the mesmer does it in so many different ways. Is crazy.
