Hey guys,

Im new to guild wars and wanted to know how mesmers stood up against other classes in PvP. Im looking for a class that can deal a huge amount of damage in a short period of time and was wondering if the mesmers can do as much as eles this way.

Thanks

Eles aren't really damage dealers outside of Searing Flames.

Mesmers are more of a shutdown role.

Want to do damage? Get a Warrior.

Mesmers can do a lot of conditional damage, so no, not as much as an elementalist with Glowing Gaze or whatever it is they used to kill me.

Searing Flames. That high-costed Elite that can pump out insane damage but relies on insane E-management to do so.

Backfire = win because the opposing Searing Flames ele will be laughing very, very hard.

Or Diversion one of his two spam spells, Searing Flames or Glowing Gaze. Much more effective than Backfire. Even if he doesn't cast through it the first time, chances are you'll get him sooner or later.

Alot of builds seem to focus around their elite skills. Just take Humility and show them who's boss.

Illusion magic--degen, anti-melle/physical attackers. taking advantage of them for attacking to deal damage.
Fast casting--keep it at a minimum or 9 attributes, or more
Domination magic--relies on enemie's energy to deal damage, or deny their energy. also used to interupt enemy caster spells
Inspiration magic--energy management skills, skills related to your energy

using a mesmer (and monk) requires knowledge of all other classes, common builds used in all forms or PvP, and ways to counter them. use a mesmer as primarily anti-cast or anti-melle. for example either stick to illusion magic for anti-melle and degen OR domination for direct damage and to kill casters. try not to mix them. also before you enter any enviorment, whether in Pve or Pvp, know what you will be encountering and set your build correctly to face it. and communicate with your team!

1. This is PvE forum.
2. If you're mesmer primary, doing damage shouldn't be your top priority.
