So...as a registered member, if I don't pay, I get ads? Is that how it works?
I hate change, and since this is change, I'm not liking it. However, I'll give it a bit to sink in and get used to it. My hatred of change is a knee jerk reaction. lol
Your math is wrong in regards to the top elite membership cost average-it's not $3.33 a month, it's $3.3125 a month. Just sayin'. Good job on the new subscription package though. :)
Feminist, I would like for people to view this as the donation program so many stated they would like for the site. A donation program with a perk. For a Registered Member who chooses not to participate they can always disable the viewing of signatures if they become an annoyance and more. For a registered user nothing has altered or changed, for a Core or Elite member they simply get more forum options and some contests for incentive. We appreciate all our members and just as many other networks do subscription programs we are hoping to give incentives, but without changing anything for our registered members.

Greetings,
With the inclusion of a subscription membership, does that mean those who can't afford memberships, like me (I'm between jobs ATM), will end up being locked out of Guild Wars Guru membership? Are the free memberships being done away with? If not, what is changing for the free members?
Feeling a little concerned here...
Merry meet, merry met, merry meet again,

Nothing is changing for Registered Users. The only additional benefits for subscribing are what is listed above.

The bonuses are mainly cosmetic, as far as forumgoing. You won't be removed from the forum if you don't pay, ever.

The link is dodgy, won't open for me. Same problem:
http://athelias.biz/guildwars/guru.JPG
Translation: "IE can't open the site http://etc" - actually I have this problem with all the annoucements with the new template: it starts loading then, this (clicking ok redirects to a 404) :o
Nice to see you've finally added a donation page - I'd suscribe now if I was not about to be billed for my own own site this month - prolly next month then
Since the template change hm? I think I've had the same error as well before. Let me try to reproduce and see what we can do. Thanks! And Admins Bane, I sent you a PM.

Tryed to pay and got this message:

What does that mean? Did the payment go through or not?
When do we get accounts updated?
Its not automatic, you have to connect your MMO Guru Select Subscription to your Guild Wars Guru account, this is because you will eventually be able to use your subscription for any site on the Guru network, so you need to login at https://select.mmoguru.com/login.php with the login that you input when you subscribed and then from there you enter your guild wars guru login and then voila, disable ads suddenly works and a whole lot more.
hmm thanks darcy will look into that

i signed up for the forums around august 05, does that mean i would get a discount or does the discount apply if i sign up for a certain amount of time, like 2 years or so?

The savings are based on how long you intend to use the program for, rather than account age. So both 1 year old and 1 day old accounts are eligible for the same savings.

Does a person automatically get one of those spiffy elite icons under their name? How does titling work with this new system?
Edit: I see it takes a few minutes, but the titling question still stands.

Great idea. Alot of other sites I go to (not guild wars BTW :p) do about the same thing to get a consistent income when they get this big.
I'm money-tight right now - but I still think giving alittle incentive to donate is fine.
Its nothing mind boggling (Signature is the major thing) - but its really not suppsoed to be about the features either is it :p

You misunderstood...I meant now that people can part with their cash to help not many are actually willing to do it.
Titling remains the Elite Guru or Core Guru once you sign up with the system. Those with a custom title (ahem, The Admins Bane) you'll notice that his has stayed the same. If you also look in the online list and in the profiles when you post thost members are double-underlined (in IE) or a thick line (in Firefox) to further distinguish them as well.
And we appreciate anything you care to sign up for. We hope that many see this as the donation program that was asked for and the features as just a nice perk. (I got what you meant Admin's Bane :))

I usually have my active users box closed, but upon opening it to see, I noticed that names have no special distinguishing feature for the new membership dealy. It's probably because I'm using Mozilla, which practically no one uses anymore. Personally, I don't care, but I thought the admins might want to know that it's not working for me.
Thanks for the answers, Inde. You're doing a great job. :)

Can I make a suggestion?
How about a different colour for people who have signed up for the Core and Elite?
The think red line looks a bit daft and out of place, maybe a different colour all together would be nicer? Like Blue, purple or something?
We tried that RTSFirebat, I assure you. But there are only so many colors under the rainbow without becoming offensive ;) I actually liked the double-underline/thick line as a great way to distinguish them in the Who's Online list.

okay, I just wanted to pay, but I need to be a verified paypal member, which I'm not.
I don't have a creditcard, because it costs quite a bit money for something I never use (every payment here in the netherlands is done by another system). I can transfer money to my paypal account though, and I never had any problems with it.
Why is this? I just want to support guru :(

One thing though (my rant of the day :o): I'm disappointed it was considered as an abonement (sp?) automatically renewed by default when you use PayPal. I'm not saying I won't renew it next year, but for this kind of thinds, I like to be asked 1st (I know I can cancel the automatic payment every year/month on my PayPal account, I've just done it, but still).
Sorry I needed to post a rant about something ;)

The elite guru membership mentions a custom graphic sig. Does this mean you can have a non-graphic sig with normal/core membership, or can you only have a sig with elite (even non-graphic)?

I would like to pay some money to support guru, but I don't like the idea that I will lose the title system forever :(
Maybe we could keep our titles and then have it show the medal icon and the double underlined name to indicate our guru membership?
I suspect not many people are purchasing a membership at the moment because it's christmas shopping time and we're all probably out of money. I've been broke for a few weeks and now that I've got money again, I'm debating whether polls and signatures would be more fun than a title.

Well this isn't really related to the Guru servers so I'll move this, but nearly done Ryker.
Thomas, signatures are only available for Elite memberships. ducktape, interesting there... I can have it so that you don't lose the title system but you won't have the identifying marks as an Elite or Core member (meaning the double/thick underline for your name and the graphic) this way you can keep your title if you'd like.

If you had checked the thread about the search function, you would have seen that members who've donated have the same problems. It might be a good idea to read what you get from the donation program. There's no mention of enhanced search, therefore it doesn't exist. There are no hidden features.
Sir Mad, that option does not work either. I tried it just a few minutes ago to see. The whole search here is busted.

So this has been going for a few weeks now, but the forums are slower than ever. What's up with that?

Inde, I was under the impression that the money from the subscriptions was going towards server improvement. If not, no biggie.
Malice, I sub to a few forums, all of which put the money towards better servers and whatnot. I never asked for anything other than an explanation. That's it. I do not subscribe simply to avoid bans, or to get on someone's good side.
Mentalist is certainly all right to ask. I said there were no promises, not that we didn't have something in the works. It's a natural conclusion that of course the money is going to fund the site, and it is. I just can't deliver any guarantees yet so stating something would be extremely bold before I had confirmation. ;) And Mentalist, no one gets out of a ban or get's on my "good side" by subscribing. I assure you. They have my appreciation and my thanks that they would contribute to support us, we have tried to accomodate and give those supporters their additional features and contests as way of acutally getting on their "good side" versus the other way around.

Just to clarify, all of the subscription options are non-recurring?
I would rather manually renew than have a recurring charge lingering out there.
The paypal options opts to use PayPals subscription system to manage recurring subscriptions, you have the option to cancel this in your PayPal account at any time and choose to renew manually. Credit Card subscriptions are not recurring and we do not store your credit card #'s.
As for server speed. Subscriptions ofcourse go to the benefit of the site in many ways, shapes and forms. It does not gurantee an increased speed boost except in the fact that no ads are loaded if you choose so. It will enable us better to purchase servers and hardware for the website so that speeds are improved but in no makes such a purchase necessary or instant. The speed problems we are having now are manageable and we have proven that our servers can handle quite a lot with good speed, there are just recent issues with the server that need to be discovered and resolved. It is very hard at the moment to debug such issues as these happen at random times for short bursts throughout the day, so it more an issue of catching it in action. Once we do, everything will be fine. So rest assured no money is being wasted, it is always being used for the improvement of this site and the network.

Hi there,
I'm a big fan of the game and of this site. I also notice that your server can get a little busy. I thought of asking here first if the money would go towards helping to keep the system(s) in check with the demand, but I read this thread and see that Inde recommends it as the way to support Guru (and I lurked long enough to know that Inde wouldn't steer us wrong). So I've just signed up, and I'm awaiting my confirmation email! Thanks for answering my question without me having to ask it! Magic! :)
It's not that big of a deal if not, but if we have the option, could I abstain from the fancy titles? Nothing personal, just that I feel silly wearing any tag that says "elite" in it. Got an "ever-newb" title hanging around anywhere? ;)
Thanks for your help, and thanks for all the work you do keeping this place up!
Cheers,
Luny
EDIT - I doubt kzap would steer us wrong either. Motto to live by, "Be still and have faith in the 'Useless Admins'" ;) Seriously, GL with the debug ... I don't envy you. :(

First, thank you admins for setting me back as site contributor after I signed up as an elite member.
Now I’m just wondering if I can get my signature option back. :p
If not, then that’s fine. I prefer to be marked as a site contributor than elite member, and I’m at least glad I was finally able to get rid of my year+ old signature from when signatures were allowed for everyone.
thanks again! and keep up the great work guru!

This should not be taken as a veiled complaint, but it would be really great if Elite members could use the old (and useful) Search mechanism. The current one is...suboptimal.
