Question about mesmers

Would a Me/W doing the same dmg as a W/Me would do?
I was wondering cause I'd like to start a char specialized in melee, but I don't want to have W as primary. Instead I want to have Me as primary.

Mesmers are capable of doing melee damage using a Warrior secondary, but you wont last 5 seconds because your armour wont keep you alive long enough - unlike the warrior.

Me/W classes tend to specialize in the use of Illusionary Weaponry, where the effects allow you to do a fixed amount of damage per melee attack. But the problem you face is that you are in melee, so you're really vulnerable. For this type of build, you can get away with using this skill, but its too costly to make it effective.

Mind you, not many people have actually tested a melee mesmer, its just the general assumption that mesmers will in fact be vulnerable in any melee situation, which is why they tend to keep themselves at range.

Warriors can run the superior runes. That gives them more attributes in for example Axe Mastery. How more points in this, how more damage you deal.
Mesmers can only have ~12~ Axe Mastery. Also the Warrior has strength. This gives them a ´´little´´ armor penetration. But there is this called Illussionary Weaponry that makes all attacks deal an certain amount of damage dealing no physical damage.

I dont think you gonna find groups with a melee caster. In theory you can use Distortion and IW. But in practice that's not worthwhile. Maybe see if someone who has actually tried out these things and succeed will respond.

I suppose you could imitate the AI of a warrior by teaming up with a ranger who has Greater Conflagration and then taking Elemental Resistance yourself. If you're wearing stanced armour, you'll have a very nice 110 Armour which will make you a better tank than most Warriors.

And then of course, if you went a W/Me, you would wind up with more^^.

Using IW in PVE isnt well advised, except in special circumstances, like soloing the Underworld, or fighting in the Tombs.

Other than that, go to Ascalon, walk around, kill weak things with and enjoy feeling like a melee god :D
