So the other day, my ex-guild (At the time still my guild) and I were off to kill Glint. During the mission, I noticed something at either the Necro Facet thing or the one after (Note, I didn't get an actual screenshot since a stupid guildy ran through the portal before I got to get a screenshot, but I was able to click on it and target it):

There is a dead Ascalonian Warrior!

Discuss. I have no theories except that it supports my Rurik Is Elonian claim, but I want to see what kind of things you theorists come up with, since I truly feel there are some cool things you guy sthink of.

You never saw those before? Lest they've changed things, their bodies litter the path to the necromancer facet.

the bodies litter the path for a reason too :p necrotic transversal anyone? :D

I don't think those who failed to ascend would be hanging around in the Dragon's Lair.

I always thought it something Glint created for the Facet of Darkness area. To instill fear to the main character when he sees fellow Ascalonians dead on the floor on his way to meet the Facet.
Of course most players couldn't give a rat's ass for some Ascalonian soldiers. They just want to cap elites and get to Droks.

I agree with Rathcail on this one.

You're in the Facet of Darkness; what is going to give you a dark sense of forboding more than seeing what seem to be the corpses of people from your homeland littering the floor?

Apparently they are W/R Iway'ers. See any dead pets? Nope. Thats why they died, they forgot to take Charm Animal. Or they're just some crazy Rurik loyal Warriors destined to die Monkless while attempting avengance of their masters death.

Or, instead of Ascending, they climbed over the mountains south of Ascalon and snook into the Dragon's Layer hoping to find masses of treasure and lots of ancient artifacts, or even Jesus!

Or, they wanted a tan after Stormcaller didnt kill the Char (pffft) and rid Ascalon of the giant sunless atmosphere, and headed for a nice holiday in the Crystal Desert (I think they were flying with LBS Expressways fyi), only to find the cave and head inside out of sheer morbid curiosity.

Or, Anet figured Minion Masters needed some sacraficial sacrafices.

The Chosen are "chosen" to be sacraficed by the White Mantle correct me if I am wrong, not to be ascended.

BTW: Your not supposed to post names (Text on the pic) :)

SPOILER WARNING!

The Chosen are "chosen" to be sacraficed by the White Mantle correct me if I am wrong, not to be ascended.

No, the Chosen are "chosen" by the Eye of Janthir, and then sacrificed by the White Mantle so they don't ascend. Neither the Mantle nor the "chosen" Chosen know anything about ascending, but ultimately ascending leads to the destruction of Mursaat which the Mantle is trying to prevent.

The presence of Ascalon Soldier corpses in Glint's Lair has led many to speculate that she is actually evil or has alterior motives to setting the Flameseeker Prophecies in motion - initially by making them and/or currently by prodding the events in some way, as indicated by the unexplained disappearance of the Scepter of Orr in the last cutscene of Hell's Precipice, and by the fact that she is the one who effectively both releases the Titans (main storyline) and eliminates them (Titan quests).

I myself don't have an explanation for the corpses' presence, but the first thing that popped into my head were the Fallen - Ascalon Warriors that come back from the dead as spirits in the bonus for Nolani Academy mission, simply because the end dialogue includes the phrase "Our names might as well have been written in the Flameseeker Prophecies" or something to that effect.

It's been a while since the last time I did that mission though, so I could be misquoting/misattributing things.

Well here's reason for me to finally finish the prophecies campaign (I stopped at Abaddon's Mouth b/c I saw no point in it) I thought the titan quests were merely just some quests you can do or abandon, I didn't know that they involved Glint and stuff. I thought that we just BAM beat the mursaat lol. Of course the Leech did make me curious, but it wasn't enough to get me to beat the game. Now I'll need something else to motivate me to finishing Cantha lol. Annoying to get groups and I HATE the geography of Cantha.

To get you motivated on gettnig through the Canthan storyline, consider this: when you beat it, you will get the thanks of everyone you've met, and I mean EVERYONE. The Tengu will bow to you. The peasants and children from all over Cantha will hail you as a hero and a savior. And the Kurzick warrior Lucas will ask for your help instead of considering you his hench.

How's that for motivation? :D

One thing I heard was that they accompanied Aidan, Devona etc when they visited Glint, and got left behind because they couldn't be raised. That leaves a lot of questions unanswered, however, especially if you subscribe to the theory that the reason PCs and henchmen can be raised while other NPCs generally can't is that the former group is Chosen, and that resurrection magic only works on Chosen... and if those guards aren't Chosen, how did they Ascend and get to Glint's lair in the first place?

Personally, I think the theory that they're there as part of the ambience of the death domain (and that they appear to be Ascalonian becuase, at least initially, the assumption was that the PCs were Ascalonian and thus Ascalonian bodies would have the greatest impact) is probably the best explanation.

xiao1985

in game, because the domain is full of necros and necros need bodies (hmm... yum)

lore wise, maybe the charrs killed ascalon soldiers and performed rituals and send them to glint?! seen a strange lore on how glint and charrs are related somehow...

That's it! That exaplins the whole thing with Rurik's little brother and Devona's cousin. All that's left is exactly what the chaos gem is and how it ended up with Gwen. Though I imagine that something will happen to link it to her broken flute, like maybe its properties got transfered to the gem by taking a direct hit from the searing. And more than likely the tapestry shred will activate its power...

People that seeked Council with Glint but failed because they weren't strong enough. If you actually read the dialogue of the Character in the outpost, The Facets are there to Test those that seek her council because only the best and strongest are deserving of her knowledge.

Those obviously weren't strong enough..

Thats how I take it...You know that alot of people TRY to ascend and have audiences with Glint...

Yes, a lot of people try to ascend, and yes, the facets are there to test them, but... how did a couple of Ascalon guards get there, is the question?

DarthLasing

I may think that the ascalonian soldiers are there because they we're to help dwayna mhenlo etc etc to glint. We don't know if there ascended or not, but they probably are to reach the lair.

Pick Me

Ok, here is my simple theory about that.

Prophecy characters are ascolonian, considered to be soldiers by both the King and Prince Rurik (see beginning of the game cut scenes and the long speech by Prince Rurik when you win the PvP battle when you want to leave Pre-seering).

So its people like us who have come from Ascolon who have run to Sanctum Cay (been chosen by the eye - just like you did) and crossed the desert. They have completed the Elonian tasks and have beaten their doppleganger. They decided to go and prove themselves by taking on Glint. Glint however, saw the faces of the true chosen, and upon seeing how far these ascolonian warriors have gotten, Glint decided to put an end to this foolishness. You many wonder why did you not get sacrificed by the Mantel when you were declared chosen by the eye, or maybe not. :o

I don't know how long the prophecies have been around, but my guess is, others who have been "chosen" have tried to fullfill these prophecies, but Glint, in her wisdom decided that these others were not the ones whom she saw in her vision. So to make sure they did not change the world as she saw it in her vision, she came down herself to one of the facits and smited the other "chosen" down.

Well that's my theory.

They are the corpses of players who didnt skip the cutscenes, usually they had a minion master in their group, but not allways.

lol, glint scatters the floor with bodies to scare people, but it's huge advantage against the necromancers, well of blood, bone minions and so on.

Ah, but before you get given the Eye, you have to go cleanse yourself in some mystic fountain to make yourself worthy. And what does the Eye do to non-chosen? It knocks them right off their feet.

I'd guess that what's essentially happened is that part of the point of the fountain is to protect the bather from what the Eye of Janthir normally does to non-Chosen. So when you aren't knocked off your feet, the Mantle assume it's because you've been 'cleansed' by the fountain rather than because you're Chosen.

Essentially, the fact that you've bathed in the fountain acts as camouflage to hide the fact that you're also Chosen.

I don't know what you mean about a hidden war. Your post doesn't make any sense. You didn't have to revive this thread either.
