The banning of Enko and Fenix might actually be good sign. It sounds like they have a system that tracks down who duped. As soon as they find a duper they ban without looking at the names. As soon as Gaile sees this thread she'll probably have them unban the accounts.
In the meantime this looks like they found everyone who did this.

Just because they don't have the capability to do something now doesn't mean they couldn't create it if they thought it were necessary. If they were going to do a rollback of any significant length of time, they'd almost have to make it a partial rollback. Of course, if they were going to do a rollback, they'd presumably have made an announcement or shut down servers or something by now. It's well into normal business hours in Bellevue.

This is what I thought too. My biggest concern was whether they would be able to identify the dupers... and this indicates that they can. It would be best for them to mass ban everyone who duped anything, then go back unban Enko and Fenix. That way they can stop the dupers from further laundering their ill-gotten gains.

they have stated several times on other issues that the database is coded from the foundation up to be all or nothing with no chance of changing/spoofing accounts
since they are not going to recode the database can you accept that your partial reroll or any reroll will not happen?
they did not do a rollback for the great trader price reset so forget it for something as minor as this

Indeed, however if they cannot ban all dupers which seems unlikely, but possible...they almost certainly have to do a rollback. I am not a big fan of this idea, but anyone who played a year or year and a half ago remembers that day when the rare material trader and rune trader dropped prices on superior vigors/absorption ectos/shards etc to 250 gold each. ANet did a very good job about quickly nipping that in the bud and doing a rollback. granted it was only 3 hours or so, but they jumped on it quick. Going back to the problem at hand...the whole economy is really messed up even if only a few hundred or thousand people did this. I am sure ectos, shards, diamonds, perfect crystallines, and any other rare skinned weapon was duped along with the armbraces. Not to mention the great point herbalizer made about people trading their super rare minis etc for tons of armbraces and having the dupers banned effectively removing the rares from the game completely. As far as I am concerned nothing is really worth anything unless something is fixed. This really is the single worst thing I can remember every happening in guild wars, I just hope ANet can come up with a fix that will benefit everyone.

They damn well should have. Enko and Fenix saved their bacon, and they couldn't even take the tiny precaution of not banning two specific accounts?

This results in a permanent removal of rare pets replaced with Armbraces. How many Panda's were in the game to start with? Does someone have the correct number? It was less than 50 wasn't it? How about kanaxi's? Oni's? yeti's? Beetles?
How many pets were in fact traded to the dupers? Even with the bans this still leaves 1000s of bogus Armbraces in the game. Surely that will have a long-term affect on prices. And a rare pet has been removed forever.
|
The loss of minipets did not occur to me, but you're right! Some of those super-rare minis may be all but wiped out now.
As for the armbraces, If we assume that a-net banned the dupers, but not innocent purchasers of duped armbraces, then you're right here too -- there's still going to be duped armbraces floating around. We've got no idea how many got traded to innocent purchasers before the bans landed, but I suspect that it was probably enough to ruin the armbrace/torment prices permanently.

if anet is able to effectively track down the dupers, what will happen to the items they purchased?
im sure the dupers bought most rares including mini pandas, kanaxais, beetles, etc. will all ill-gotten items be removed from the game along with the banned accounts?
and what about the people that sold their rare minis for all those ectos and armbraces?
this only effects a small percantage of the player base but those of us that farmed/power-traded to amass some type of wealth over the past two and a half years now have absolutely no chance in obtaining these items.
this just simply creates a larger gap between the moderate collectors and the hardcore ones. since the majority of the casual player base isnt going to be effected, i dont really see anet taking drastic measures to fix the problem.
bans for people that duped and thats about it. so the rich get richer and everything else stays status quo. woot

If someone bought a hundred armbraces and gets banned for it even without duping, I have no sympathy for that. They had to know that something wasn't kosher. What I do feel sorry for is the people who bought only one, whether they get banned or not.
Conspiracy theory time: ArenaNet doesn't know who the dupers were, but banned Fenix and Enko because they publicly admitted it, to make the rest of us think that they have a way to track down and ban the dupers.
No, I don't actually believe that. The only conspiracy theory that I believe is that the NBA playoffs are somehow partially (but not entirely) rigged.

that is not the great trader price reset where all traders worldwide were set to the same prices episode that made all those instant millionaires which was not rerolled.
you are thiking of the fixed price event where the prices stayed fixed instead of going higher as intended which was rerolled

Hmmm, this now begs the question; did the duppers buy rare pets and then dupe them?
Dupe Armbraces > Buy Rare Minis > Dupe Rare Minis > Sell Rare Minis
Theoretically there could now be stacks of Beetles out there.

Still no word from ANET...this is what bothers me...there is a major concern here with players... I am not playing GW till they tell us what they are going to do...It would be silly for me to go in and work on any title...or try to sale anything...as it may get rolled back. It just really blows my mind that there isn't any official response to this...other than late night posts...saying we are looking into it.

Hmm just saw Fenix ingame rofl...
I'd also be more worried about the duping of limited minis. The dupers multiplied their ambraces bought limited minis and then duped those.
Edit: Oofus overtook me by 2min, so what he said XD Oh btw minis don't stack, but i doubt there's only 26 Kanaxai now.

since pets dont stack, i doubt it, i'm sure some kanaxai's and guardians and pandas have been duped, but i doubt there are hundreds of them.

They CANNOT do a rollback. The game has come a long way from that screw up with the trader reset. We have titles, vanquishes, hard mode, elite areas. And more to the point the time period that this exploit has existed is just way too long, the Dragon festival makes it even less likely. They would have to put this event on AGAIN, remove all the effort people put in over hte weekend to gain tokens etc. And it wouldn't solve anything... these minipets were traded for extreme amounts of armbraces several days ago, maybe longer.

if the dupers were simply in it for personal gain, i doubt they would have duped any rare minis. why dupe rare minis when you can dupe stacks and stacks of ectos and armbraces?
if i were a duper and simply wanted a rare mini, i sure as hell wouldnt dupe more of them.
the dupers probably duped stacks and stacks of ectos and offered the max of 100k+1750e for one of them with little success in obtaining one, so they went one step further and started duping armbraces to entice the minipet owners to part with them.

I've been reading through these posts all morning.
I want to get the conversation back on track so I'm going to say that I don't think that minipets can be duped. The trick seemed to be you would reconnect while obtaining the armbrace to dupe it. You never receive a minipet like an armbrace so therefor the minis can't be duped. Can we get someone to tell us the status of the rare minis? Are the perm ban accounts with rare minis truly going to forever be the death of some of them? Poor lil guys! I was working my way to a rare mini...my dreams are smashed doh!

Maybe he was never banned :S
That would actually be worrying if they are missing people who did the dupe.
Hopefully Enko will be unbanned soon.
