Gear
Headgear: Flame's Eye(Fire Magic +1)
Runes: Minor Energy Storage, best Fire Magic rune you can acquire
Focus: high energy focus
Weapon: melee weapon can be useful as it will help you get into close range

If you are able to find a sword or axe with modifiers such as increased enchantment duration, or increased armor, these can be useful.  You won't be using the weapon to attack, so the damage is unimportant.

Overview
Before entering battle, cast Aura of Restoration, Fire Attunement, and Chanelling.  These enchantments will increase the amount of spells you can cast before running low on energy, as well as helping you heal back some of the damage that you'll likely be taking when in the middle of combat.  Then, locate the largest concentration of enemies, and run in to attack them with your melee weapon.  When you're right next to the enemies, instead of hitting them with your weapon, start spamming your damage spells.  Flame Burst is quite useful as it does high damage to multiple targets, and has a fast recharge time.  Immolate can be used to pick off injured enemies that try to escape, while inferno does massive damage to nearby enemies, but has a longer recharge time.  Fire Storm will allow you to deal a massive amount of damage to any enemies that do not move out of it's area of effect, as well, perfect for dropping on that horde of enemy warriors that all group up around their target.

This build uses three skills that help you manage your energy pool to continue to cast your damage spells.  Chanelling will give you one energy for every nearby enemy whenever you cast a spell, which can add up quickly when you are in the middle of a heated battle.  In addition, Fire Attunement will reduce the cost of all your spells, and if you start running low on energy, you can use Glyph of Lesser Energy to cast one of your high-energy spells for merely the 5 energy cost of the glyph.  WIth the combination of these skills, you should be able to keep up a steady stream of high-damage spells without running out of energy for a considerable amount of time.

Some problems that you can run into with this build is that if your opponents remove your enchantments, you will lose your healing capability as well as your enchantments to help manage your energy pool.  As these skills have fairly long recharge timers, you may have a hard time recasting them.  However, you'll still be able to output a significant amount of damage even without the extra energy provided by Chanelling and Fire Attunement.  Another difficulty you can run into is the high damage you can take if you're attacked by many enemies at one time.  Aura of Restoration should help you regain health fairly regularly with your spellcasting, but if you're attacked by many enemies, you may need help from a teammate in order to stay alive.

Some options to change this build are:
  • Drop some points from the current attribute setup to invest in earth magic for defensive skills such as Armor of Earth
  • If you are looking for faster damage output at the cost of a lesser amount of time spent casting, try substituting Phoenix in for Glyph of Lesser Energy- at point-blank range, Phoenix will deal over 200 damage(reduced by armor) at high levels of fire magic, to everything nearby.
  • If you are looking for other ways to regain energy, you can try some of the other Mesmer Inspiration spells, such as Energy Drain, Energy Tap, Power Drain, Leech Signet, or any of the other skills that you think would be useful.
