Pre-requisite quests: Mysterious Message; Secrets in the Shadow; To Kill a Demon
This mission is one of two options given to you during the quest Mysterious Message and is obtained by joining up with Master of Whispers. If you chose to join Margrid the Sly you would instead do the Pogahn Passage mission.
The main objective of this mission is to kill a large monster known as The Drought who is located within the Mahnkelon Waterworks. You begin the mission accompanied by the disguised elemental Dehjah and it is your task to protect her as she heads towards the waterworks and unlocks the gates. Note that if Dehjah dies, the mission fails. Once inside the waterworks you will find groups of Kounan military and a few groups of Droughtlings - smaller, less powerful versions of the final boss. There are also five pumps - turning one of these off gives your party a 2% morale boost and reduces the environmental effect in this area (Thirst of the Drought) by 10%. This effect increases damage caused by Earth magic by 50%, making The Drought's Sandstorm devastating. If all pumps are turned off, this effect is negated - note however that use of the Ranger nature ritual Winter turns all elemental damage to cold damage thereby circumventing this effect.
The bonus is achieved by NOT turning off the pumps: 2-5 pumps off for Standard, 1 pump off for Expert, no pumps off for Master.
