The Guild Wars client will allow you to set up your Guild Wars account.

 You can download the client under the following circumstances:

• You will be attending a special pre-release event, such as the Factions Preview Event in March, 2006. (You may download the client at any time prior to the event and be ready to go when the event begins.) 
• You purchased Guild Wars through PlayNC or another authorized retailer that provides the access key but not the game CD. 
• You wish to install Guild Wars on a different computer and do not have your game CD handy. 
• You need to do a reinstallation after purchasing a new system or hard drive and do not have your CD handy.

Note, the Guild Wars Client is not a playable demo. It is only useful in the event that you own a Guild Wars account or have an access key for a Guild Wars event.
