Factions Preview Event Follow-Up Q&A
7 April 2006

Can you give us the definition of the map icons and colors for each icon image. For example the hexagonal shape is for an outpost. What are the others?

Red = owned by Luxon
Blue = owned by Kurzick
Circle shield = Story mission
Hexagonal shield = Rest stop or outpost
Shield pointed downward = Challenge mission
Shield pointed upward and downward = PvP arena (there is only one of these)
Bladed shield = City / town

It appears as if a certain map image represents a guild’s cape image? If that is correct, what is the reward for taking over that area and how does it work?

Yes, the image represents the emblem of the alliance that owns that town. Exclusive areas of the town will be opened up to members of the alliance that owns it.

What is the purpose of the Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry missions?

These are challenge missions that pit Luxon and Kurzick players against one another. The reward is faction.

What are some advantages of having control of outposts?

Luxon alliances own the outposts inside of the Luxon line. Players who have no allegiance to Luxon or Kurzick and players who are allied with the Kurzicks are not allowed to use the resurrection shrines in those areas unless they kill the guards or bribe them. Killing them would reward the players with Kurzick faction. Bribing them would reward the players with Luxon faction.

We like to know the reason for the movement of the battle line, and why it appears different at certain times when we join the alliance battle from town or when we are present in a battle.

The border location is based on the wins and losses of Kurzick vs. Luxon. The more wins the Luxons get over the Kurzicks, the more the border shifts in their favor and vice versa.

How many alliance battle maps are there in Factions? Could you tell us the names?

There are 5 alliance battle maps:

Saltspray Beach
Etnaran Keys
Kanaaki Cliffs
Grenz Frontier
Ancestral Lands

Could you tell us how the alliance battle points are calculated?

One point is gained for every seven seconds of control, and one point is gained for each kill. These numbers will most likely be adjusted prior to the release of Factions.

What is the use of the alliance fame points that are located in the guild interface?

The higher the faction, the higher your guild's alliance position on the ladder and the better the town that your alliance will control.

In town, there is an Alliance Faction Reward NPC that can increase the guild rank. Are there other ways we can increase it?

The NPC that raises the alliance's rank is for the alliance's faction only. Guilds within the alliance are still ranked on a Guild vs. Guild ladder. No, there is no other way to raise your alliance's rank.

Is it impossible to have more than 10 thousand points for alliance faction? (At this present, the gauge goes up to 10 thousand points.)

The ceiling on alliance faction is 10,000. You will need to spend some of the faction in order to “create space” in your counter to allow you to acquire more faction.

Is quest completion the only way to collect alliance faction, or are there additional ways for collecting it? (We predicted we can get alliance faction via the alliance battles but it seems different.)

You can collect alliance faction in the following ways:

Quests
Challenge missions
Battle maps
Bribing or killing resurrection shrine guards

The interface shows which alliance the guild belongs to. In order to change a guild's alliance, are we required to recreate the guild?

No, your guild can stay intact and change alliances. Your guild leader can remove your guild from an alliance and join another alliance, or the guild may stay by itself and not be allied at all.

During the FPE, there were fewer quests for the Luxons than for the Kurzicks. Based on that, the Kurzicks were able to get more points from quests. If this is the way that both Luxons and Kurzicks get points, will this be unbalanced?

Not all quests were implemented for the FPE. It will be much more balanced when Factions is released, and Luxons and Kurzicks should have an equal opportunity to acquire points.

In Guild Wars Prophecies, most skills can be obtained by completing the quests, but in Factions we could not see skills being available in this manner. Can skills be obtained from the skill trainer or by capturing the skills in Factions?

Some early skills will be rewarded through quests. However, more Factions skills will have to be bought with skill points from a skill trainer or will need to be captured. This will help create more of a variety of builds in Factions than were used in Prophecies.

Most of the FPE quests gave 500 faction points as a reward; they were also repeatable. Will there be many of these quests? This is a question because this mechanism seems very much like farming.

There will only be a few repeatable quests. The reward system for quests was not final for the FPE.

During the FPE we saw a Rare Scroll Trader NPC. Can you tell us what types of rare scrolls there will be in Factions?

The rare scrolls in Factions will be the same as those in Prophecies.

We noticed that players paid 1000 points to get Jadeite as an alliance reward. It seems that the best or rarest alliance armors cannot be crafted in town. How will that work in the future?

The Luxons will obtain their resource for the high-level armors in the Leviathan Pits.
The Kurzicks will get their resource in Vasburg Armory.

Assassin combination skills seem to be the primary change that has been added in the skill icon section. We understood the symbol in the upper left, where it represents Opening Strike, Offhand Strike, Dual Strike etc. However, it is a little bit hard to understand the symbol in the right-hand corner. The symbols indicate the casting of an enchantment, but how are they distinguished from one another?

The marks represent a combination in which each skill can be used. The symbol in the upper left indicates what type of skill needs to have been used before you can use this current skill. If there is no symbol in the upper left, this skill can be used to start a combination. The symbol in the upper right is there to indicate what kind of skill it is (Opening Strike, Offhand Strike, Dual Strike etc.). These two sets of icons help indicate which skill to use next in a combination and let the player know if they have a valid combination in their skill bar.
