Pick Up Groups Guide

Let me begin by saying that I DO NOT RECOMMEND forming PUGs in a situation
where you may be pitted against Guilds or parties formed with friends. These
parties know one another very well, and they generally have more experience in
working as a group. Very rarely will a PUG defeat a Guild or group of friends
in PvP. Therefore, I will assume that you are in a sitation where both you and
your enemy are PUGs, such as in Ascalon Arena.
In this case, you need to establish who, if anyone, is a healer in your party,
and figure out how many healers, if any, are on the enemy team. Set up the
party formation in such a way that the enemy must go through the combatants to
reach the healer. DO NOT try and hide the healer in a spot away from the party
- some enterprising players know these hiding spots, and if your healer is
exposed without backup, you're in trouble. If you are the healer, you need to
utilize the protection of your fellow party members. If a melee enemy, like a
Warrior targets you, run away; otherwise, heal yourself along with your
teammates. There's generally no use running from a ranged attacker as they have
enough range that you have to choose between running away and being close
enough to heal your teammates. Running from a Warrior may not stop him/her from
pursuing, but it often will give your allies a chance to take out another
target, or to get free shots on the Warrior.
How you fight your enemy determines on their formation. If the healer is
exposed and out in the open (probably an AoE Healer), then kill that person
as soon as you can. It may not necessarily destroy the enemy's healing
capabilities or eliminate him/her for good, but it will certainly slow down
your enemy's healing rate. If the healer is far away from his/her teammates,
you may be able to go after that person and knock him/her out. Otherwise, the
party should concentrate on the offensive casters. Do NOT focus on the enemy
tank, especially if the enemy has a healer.
NOTE: These are just some ways of engaging enemy parties. They are, from my
experience, strategies that work most, but not all of the time. Therefore, they
are NOT guaranteed to work. With the virtually limitless possibilities of
parties, I cannot make a 100% foolproof strategy guide on PUG PvP. These are
tips - the best way to learn how to play well in PvP is to practice.
