3a. ESSENTIAL CLASSES
When looking for party members, or when you are invited to join a party, there
are certain classes that are mandatory for increasing the odds of success.
They are as follows:
1) MONK - The dedicated healer in your party, this guy can mean the
difference between total victory and utter defeat. The Monk can heal
combatants, resurrect dead party members, and provide increased
protection against monsters. It's generally best to pick a Monk
primary; if those aren't available to recruit, find someone who has
a Monk secondary and is equipped with resurrection and healing skills.
**** NEVER, EVER FORM A PARTY WITHOUT A DESIGNATED HEALER ****
2) WARRIOR - The tank of your party, this is the person who will take
the brunt of the enemy attacks and keep them from targetting the more
vulnerable casters in your party. Even if you cannot recruit a
Warrior, try to recruit someone who has fairly high defense and HP.
Without a tank, your party members will take a lot of damage,
possibly more than the healer can heal in a short period of time.
3b. ESSENTIAL SKILLS
1) Resurrection Signet - The thing that keeps your healer alive in
the event that he or she dies. You can get it VERY early in the game
by doing the Resurrection Signet quest in Pre-Searing Ascalon -
simply party with another member, then go out to Lakeside County and
talk to Lina, who is near the entrance to the city. If you forgot to
get it, you can purchase it fairly cheaply from the Skill Trainer in
Post-Searing Ascalon. Get it and equip it - only use it when the
HEALER dies. The skill's description states that you may use the
signet ring only once per mission, however, it has been verified
(credits go to Ratatass and SausaletusRex) that the signet ring CAN
be used again upon defeat of a boss. Still, you should use the skill
sparingly.
2) Resurrect - This is the skill you should have if you're the healer.
Use this spell when you have a fallen party member AND the other
members are not in dire need of healing. You may also substitute for
another revival skill later in the game, such as Restore Life.
Unlike Resurrection Signet, the healer can use this skill over and
over again, as long as he/she has enough Energy to spare.
3) Any 3 Healing Skills (MINIMUM) - Excluding the revival spell, the
healer should have 3 skills that are directly related to keeping the
other party members in optimal health. Early on, these skills include
Orison of Healing, Heal Other, Heal Area, and Healing Hands.
